The 16th World Film Festival of Bangkok will be held at SF World Cinema, Bangkok from 7-17 November 2024

The objective of the World Film Festival of Bangkok is to introduce quality, non-mainstream films from all over the world. It aims to become a showcase for various films and new work from rising talents to cinema masters to show the continuity from generation to generation as a vital component in the development of the film industry.

Special Mention – MA - Cry of Silence

"The jury would like to give a special mention to a rare work of independent cinema from Myanmar that seeks to uphold truth and justice, made within a time of oppressive authority. We think it is important to highlight this lesser-known story of resistance told with the raw power of the collective voice and the pure intent of cinema for liberation and change. Through poetry in action the film pays tribute to the struggles of women in Myanmar fighting for their labour rights in hopes to empower others to break the silence, not just by a whimper but a roar."

พิธีปิดเทศกาลภาพยนตร์โลกแห่งกรุงเทพฯ ครั้งที่ 16 และการประกาศรางวัล Lotus Award
The 16th World Film Festival of Bangkok Closing Ceremony, The 11-day festival showcased 100 films from 35 countries, exploring innovative paths in global cinema under the theme "New Horizons" and shaping the future of Thailand's film industry. The closing ceremony was held at SF World Cinema, CentralWorld.
The festival was organised by Nation Group with support from the National Soft Power Strategic Committee (THACCA), the Culture Ministry’s Department of Cultural Promotion, SF Corp, and the Safe and Creative Media Development Fund, with hotel and airline partners.
The prestigious Lotus Awards were presented in four categories, judged by an international panel comprising Yeo Siew Hua, Freddy Olsson, Kim Young-Woo, Anke Leweke, and Chananan Chotirungroj. The winners were:
Jury Prize: "Viet and Nam", produced by Nguyen Thi Xuan Trang, and "Pepe" directed by Nelson Carlos De los Santos Arias
Best Director: Matthew Rankin for "Universal Language"
Best Film: "Desert of Namibia" directed by Yôko Yamanaka
Special Mention: "MA Cry of Silence" directed by The Maw Naing

ว่าด้วย ‘เทศกาลภาพยนตร์’ และหนทางไปต่อของ ‘หนังไทย’ | ดรสะรณ โกวิทวณิชชา

ชวน ‘หมอเลี้ยบ’ คุยเรื่องภาพยนตร์และพลังของซอฟต์พาวเวอร์ไทย | สุรพงษ์ สืบวงศ์ลี
