EAC Heads of State hold virtual meeting, swear-in new Secretary General

Juba, Friday (June 7, 2024) - In a virtual meeting held on Friday, the East African Community Heads of State endorsed the appointment of Kenyaโ€™s Veronica Mweni Nduva as EAC's new Secretary General.

In attendance were Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia, Burundi's Vice President Prosper Bazombanza, and Kenya's Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

At the meeting, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit, who holds the position of the regional bloc's chair, stressed the crucial significance of peace and security for the economic advancement and political steadiness of the area.

In addition, he emphasized the necessity of collaborative endeavors to tackle obstacles and foster collaboration among member states.

President Kiir also declared that South Sudan will consult next month on EAC political federation. He stated this is to explore how tighter political integration among member states can boost regional cooperation and unity.

The Heads of State and representatives emphasized their resolute dedication to collaborating on crucial projects aimed at fostering economic development, social advancement, and regional integration within the EAC.

According to the leaders, the EAC is starting a new chapter in its quest for greater integration and collaboration with the swearing-in of the new Secretary General, which takes place against the background of these talks and promises.

PRESIDENT KIIR ARRIVES IN EGYPT FOR SUMMIT OF SUDAN'S NEIGHBOURS.

Juba, July 12th 2023 Cairo- President Salva Kiir Wednesday arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo to attend the Sudan Neighbors Summit to discuss ways to end the Sudan crisis.

The summit, which convenes on Thursday, aims to "develop effective mechanisms" for peacefully resolving disputes through regional and international efforts.

The President is accompanied by Presidential Security Advisor Tut Gatluak Manime, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deng Dau Malek.

The meeting in Cairo will be attended by heads of state and governments from South Sudan, Egypt, Chad, Central Africa, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
