Report: Achai Wiir wanted in suspected human trafficking scandal in Uganda

Ugandan police has asked South Sudan government to arrest businesswoman Achai Wiir in suspected human trafficking scandal in Uganda according to report by Uganda’s New Vision newspaper.

This was after Ugandan police rescued eight babies aged between two years to two months at a motel in Kampala, Uganda.

It's alleged that the babies were brought from South Sudan to Uganda on Achai's order.

Samuel Wani, a police attaché at South Sudan embassy in Uganda told media that the embassy has instructed police in Juba to arrest Achai Wiir for questioning in Uganda.

Women and two gentlemen who were in the motel with the babies were arrested too.

According to Ugandan media reports, the two gentlemen are identified as Ring and Koryom Awet Alor.

Koryom, a brother to Achai Wiir popularly known as Promoter K2 was later released on bail, New Vision has reported.

VERY SAD STORY of JURKUCH BOL a promising young South Sudanese Pilot.

Feels Good to Be Back!

So sometime in March 2022, I had a short flight very early in the morning. I was having another flight like 2 hours after that flight. So I got out of the plane in a hurry and ran to the bank to get some paperwork signed before my second flight because I was gonna get back late a the bank would be closed. I left my flight bag on the plane. On return, I just did a quick pre-flight, fueled the plane, and departed. Getting back in the afternoon, I wanted to pack my books and headsets, and to my surprise, I spotted something that looked very strange to me (photo attached).

The same day my cousin called me and informed me that some priest had called him and told him he saw his relative in an accident. So he called to check on me. Surprisingly, I also had a story about what I found in my flight bag. On seeing that and me being a person full of s**t (you can say I joke a lot), I called my wife and asked her if she has an idea what this could be. She got scared and told me that looked like some kind of juju because no one in our household would have something that looks like that.

I called my mum and told her to ask my cousin to put it on her WhatsApp. I sent her something, and on seeing the thing, my mum called me back and started praying and all that... She’s a church person. The last time I went to church was at my wedding. I'm an ex-seminarian with a bible app on my phone. I always read and pray on my long flights. “You have gone through the hardest things in life and you survived them my son. No other woman’s son or daughter can manage to do something bad to you and succeed. Abï nyïn acuol,” (I don’t know its English translation 😁) my mum said.

Fast forward a few weeks later, I kept pushing myself to fly. I wasn’t feeling it that much but I kept going on. One evening, I decided to go out of the house in slippers. I slid in the stairs of some hustle joint I’m putting up and hurt my big toe really badly—to the extent that I wasn’t able to fly because I wouldn’t be able to press the breaks or rudders. So I took time off since I’m my own boss, and asked our AOC (Air Operator Certificate) holder to get me someone to help me for a few days as I clear my head and so my toe could heal.

The second day into the flight of my colleagues that replaced me, my aircraft, a new C208(Cessna Caravan) G1000, had an accident and was written off by the insurance. Thank God my friends got out without even a scratch. The same day, a friend of mine I left with my car in Juba got into an accident—though a light one. My other car coming from Nairobi had the engine quit on the way to Juba. I called my mum and told her it looks like someone’s son or daughter seemed to be succeeding and laughed about it. My mum called her pastor friends and held a prayer at home. I told her not to worry because I’m here to leave a mark on earth and I haven’t started.

So, friends, there are real haters out there. This person, whoever s/he is, was never gonna take my spot and get over 3000 hours overnight and be me. But jealousy was just there working on them and forcing them into that. Whatever it was!
Today I’m back in the air…never wanted to tell this story but just to get it off my mind I just had to.

Local singer LTD Bul Bul left helpless in Bangkok, Thailand after allegedly escaping from Human Traffickers

In attempt to evade the current tough economic situation and look for greener pastures outside South Sudan, local singer LTD Bul Bul found himself trapped in the hands of suspected international human trafficking ring.

"Ltd Bul Bul left for Thailand on Sunday morning after securing what was promised as a job in an IT related field through an agency. On arrival to the Capital Bangkok, he was picked up by someone sent from the agency who then handed him to a lady", according to a family source.

The family member continued to narrate that the lady in the company of other men put him in a taxi and drove off from the city for about 20 hours straight.

They arrived to a small town and slept, the next morning they again got up and drove off for two hours. He grew suspicious and then asked the guys where they’re taking him while his destination was the capital Bangkok.

"From the highway they drove off through a small road which brought more concerns to him. In order to get off he then begged them he wanted to ease himself which they accepted after a serious pleading, on getting off the taxi, one of the guy came out with a security baton with an aim of hitting him from the back but was quick to see him. He immediately took off and managed to escape through a maize plantation", he explains before thanking God for saving his relative.

Bul's relative warns South Sudanese against accepting job offers from agencies to work in Asia as he revealed that his brother is finally safe in a police custody awaiting arrangements to come back home.

"He lost all his belongings except for his passport that was in his pocket but arrangements are in place to fly him back home", he said.

Oil exploration in Jonglei begins, gov’t announces.

JUBA – South Sudan government has begun oil exploration in the country’s Jonglei state with contract being awarded to a South African state-run oil company, the undersecretary of the ministry of petroleum Mayen Wol announced Wednesday.

Speaking during the closing session of the Oil & Power Conference 2022 in Juba on Wednesday, Wol said the government has started the oil exploration and a team from South Africa state-firm, which has been awarded a contract, will be accompanied to Bor for preparations.

“We have started the exploration and tomorrow (Thursday) we are going with the SFF to Bor for exploration. Next year when you come here, you will see new things. We will do a lot of good new things and refinery,” said Wol.

Under this agreement which includes six years exploration period, the SFF alongside Nilepet will launch a comprehensive aero gravity survey exploration campaign, seismic acquisition and drills with prospectively.

SFF has agreed to invest in capacity building initiatives, trainings of South Sudanese citizens investing in social and community development projects and ensuring local content and women empowerment.

Block B2 was part of 120,000 square kilometer area known as Block B, which was divided into three licenses in 2012 and is believed to be rich in hydrocarbons although very little has been done to ensure that the country benefit from it.

The Block lies in Jonglei State.

There has been much interest in Block B acreages since the entry of Oranto Petroleum to Block B3 in 2017.

Court adjourns case of the murder of businesswoman Rebecca Anyon over the absence of the lawyer of the accused

Juba High Court has on Wednesday adjourned hearing in the case of Longar Akok who is charged with killing his wife and another man in Juba in June, to Monday due to absence of his lawyer.

Rebecca Anyon and a police officer Akech Manut were shot dead in June when Longar found them together at a pub.

Following the deadly incident, Akok handed himself over to the Malakia Police Station.

The accused is charged with premeditated murder, possession of a weapon, and serious harm according to 2008 South Sudan Penal Act.

The first hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, but Akok’s defense lawyer did not show up in court, prompting his second attorney to request the presiding Judge to postpone the session to Monday next week.

Police arrest VOA reporter for covering peaceful protest

Police have arrested Diing Magot, a Journalist working for the Voice of America while covering a peaceful protest over the high cost of living in Juba.

According to Oyet Patrick Chairperson, Diing was arrested on Sunday at Konyo-konyo market where she was covering the protest.
