Bishop Emeritus Paride Taban dies in Nairobi.

The Catholic Church and the people of South Sudan are mourning the loss of an extraordinary leader and advocate for peace.

The message was delivered by the Sudan/South Sudan catholic bishop conference.

"The Catholic Bishops and the Catholic Church in South Sudan and Sudan announce the return of death of our dear Bishop emeritus Paride Taban which occurred this afternoon 1st November 2023 in Nairobi. The bishop was unwell for some time and the Good Shepherd called him on the Solemnity of All the Saints." A statement read.

Widely known for his tireless efforts in promoting peace and reconciliation in South Sudan, particularly during the civil war that ravaged the country for many years.

Bishop Taban played a crucial role in facilitating dialogue and mediating conflicts between different ethnic groups.

He was also instrumental in establishing the Holy Trinity Peace Village in Kuron, which aimed to provide a safe space for people from different tribes to come together, heal, and build a peaceful future.

His work earned him several international awards and recognition.

The death of Bishop Paride Taban is a great loss not only for the Catholic Church but also for the people of South Sudan, who looked up to him as a peaceful and compassionate leader.

His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come, and his dedication to peace building serves as a reminder of the importance of dialogue and forgiveness in building a harmonious society.

May his soul rest in peace.
