His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit met Hon. Joseph Nguen Monytuil, the Governor of Unity State whom he summoned to explain the incident that happened in Mayom County, Unity State that led to extrajudicial killings.

Hon. Governor Joseph Nguen Monytuil explained to the President the two incidents where Mayom County Commissioner Gen. James Chuol Gatluak was killed which led to the killings of the suspects without due process.

In addition, the Governor also briefed the President on the humanitarian situation in Unity State, noting that the area has been affected by floods since last year, which led to the displacement of considerable number of people who are now in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Minister of Presidential Affairs Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin said President Salva Kiir Mayardit summoned the Governor of Unity State to explain directly the incidents that happened in Mayom County. The Minister stated that South Sudan is a Country with rules and Laws emphasing that the law should take its course in such situations.

In his remarks, Hon. Joseph Nguen Monytuil said the security situation in Unity State is now back to normalcy.

As of 1230 hrs: The heightened tensions persist and the mobilisation is reportedly still ongoing. However, in contrast to initial information, OAG members were not involved but yesterday’s clash was reportedly between armed youths from Haak Nuer community of Mayendit County and Dok Nuer community of Leer County. Yesterday, youths from Mayendit County reportedly arrived at Padeah with cattle and were stopped by youths from Leer County suspecting the cattle to be previously stolen. The youths groups clashed killing one of the youths from Mayendit. In revenge, the youths from Mayendit reportedly attacked this night and killed one individual in Padeah Settlement.In consequence, both sides are reportedly mobilising and further clashes continue to appear likely. Possible locations of further fighting are assessed to be in the area around Padeah, Rubkuay, Tutnyang, and Luom settlements. However, fighting in other areas cannot be ruled out as the movement of youths is hard to predict.

GRASSROOTS PEACE CONFERENCE BETWEEN JONGLEI STATE AND GREATER PIBOR ADMINISTRATION CONCLUDES

Three days grassroots peace inception conference on governance sponsored by Peace Canal between Jonglei State and Greater Pibor Administration joyfully concluded on October 28, 2021 in Bor town. The conference brought all the Commissioners, Women, youth and Chiefs' representatives. Governor Chagor and Hon. Lokoli Amee, the Chief Administrator of Greater Pibor blessed the resolution and congratulated the communities for coming together for peace.

The resolution of the conference was signed by the State Minister of Peace Building in Jonglei State - Hon. Malual Gabriel Kon on behalf of the people of Jonglei and Hon. Jacob Lokocho, the Chairperson of Peace and Reconciliation Commission in Greater Pibor signed on behalf of people of Greater Pibor.

In conclusion remarks, Chagor urged the communities to stick to their commitments. He lastly awarded the representative of each community with mobile phones which he said would be used to monitor the peace progress directly from his office and that of Chief Administrator's office. He added that peace fails due to lack of follow-up and monitoring.
