It is sad to learn about the demise of Rev. Father Joseph Okello of the Comboni Missionaries, which happened at around 9 o'clock on Tuesday morning in Juba.

In April 2022, I posed for a photo with Father Okello after the Dawn show on Eye Radio. On that day, he talked about the importance of Good Friday and Easter Sunday in Christianity and the significance of Jesus's resurrection to mankind.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Thank you, friends, colleagues, family, my Eye Radio family, the Media Development Institute, AMDISS, and the people of Western Equatoria State. Your unwavering support and encouragement have been a source of motivation throughout my journey.

Yesterday, I was humbled by the inundation of congratulatory messages, phone calls, and comments that flooded my inbox. I am grateful for each and every one of them.

I also want to express my gratitude to the Union of Journalists of South Sudan and the esteemed panel of judges for recognizing me among the great journalists who submitted their ideas.

Winning the Media Excellence Reporting on Climate change for 2023 was a formidable challenge, but it is now evident that our contribution to society can have a ripple effect.

The photos captured in the flooded areas below were taken in October 2021, when we visited Panapet Primary School, located about 3km Southeast of Bor town. Witnessing such a situation inspired me to become an advocate for how communities, decision-makers, and policy-makers can collaborate to address the climatic shocks that afflict the local communities in the country.

This initiative highlights the perseverance of our efforts to ensure that South Sudanese people have access to reliable and accurate information.

Once again, I extend my sincere appreciation for your support and encouragement. Let us unite in our aspirations to confront the pressing challenges posed by climate change and make South Sudan an enchanting place for everyone.

World Tourism Day 2023: "Tourism and Green Investment"

Tourism greatly contributes to the economy of the destination area. The money spent by tourists on various activities, accommodations, food, and transportation directly boosts the local economy, leading to job creation and increased investment opportunities. Moreover, it facilitates cultural exchange and enhances mutual understanding. Visitors from diverse backgrounds and locations have the chance to immerse themselves in the local culture, traditional practices, and historical significance. This can foster tolerance, appreciation, and respect for different cultures, bridging gaps between nations, and in our case, states, ultimately promoting peace.

In addition, tourism stimulates the preservation and conservation of natural and cultural heritage sites. These sites gain recognition and value by attracting tourists, which increases their likelihood of receiving funding and protection. Local communities also acquire a stronger incentive to maintain and safeguard their cultural and natural assets, ensuring their longevity for future generations.

Consequently, tourism plays an integral role in the economic, social, and cultural development of a destination. It not only supports the local economy and encourages cross-cultural understanding but also preserves natural and cultural heritage, promotes sustainable practices, and creates employment opportunities.

Last day at Chukudum in Budi County.

The surroundings are lush green, with mountains adorned in smaller trees, creating a picturesque view. The weather is noticeably cold, especially during rainfall.

During my stay here for the past six days, I had the opportunity to climb a portion of the historic mountain. This mountain holds great significance to the locals as they cultivate a wide range of crops and vegetables such as Sukuma wiki, maize, avocado, and pineapple.

I am grateful to the local population for their warm hospitality and easy-going nature, making it a delightful experience to engage with them.

Winning this award holds great significance for young people, as it showcases the incredible innovative ideas that should be utilized to the fullest potential.

Our idea was primarily focused on inspiring and empowering young people in Budi County, implying that we will travel to the area and train young people to be active citizens.

I'm elated to resume work after a hiatus of two weeks. Remember, a single positive thought can transform your entire day.
