Dear Students of ASA-UNU, the leadership do hereby calling you all to come Sunday date 28 January 2024 in Nyakuren cultural center for Election of two candidates who are competing for position of chairmanship under the THEME; PEACEFUL TRANSITION MAKES GOOD DEMOCRACY.

The program will be headed by patron of the day Hon. Dr. Joseph Geng, National Minister of youth and sports SSD and Guest of honor will be Mr. AKOL MAWIEN ATHIAN BUL Chairman of Aweil Graduates Association (AGA) and state government representative from Northern Bhar El Ghazal state-Aweil.

Note:
The program will start from 10:30 Am and registration for Students will starts at same time because we don't need election to ends in evening hours.
Election will starts exactly at 1 Pm or 2 Pm.

President Salva Kiir this evening appointed Dr Augustino Ting Mayai as a Chairperson for the National Bureau of Census and Statistics according to a Republican Decree read on state-owned TV, SSBC

Augustino Ting Mayai is the Director of Research at the Sudd Institute and an Assistant Professor at the University of Juba’s School of Public Service. He holds a PhD in Sociology, with concentrations on demography and development from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

President Kiir Meets the NEC Chairperson Over Electoral Preparations

Juba, 25th January 2024 - President Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Wednesday met with the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Prof. Abednego Akok Kachuol, to discuss the preparations for the general elections in December this year.

According to Prof. Abednego, their meeting focused on important priorities for the electoral body which include release of elections budget in order to prepare the ground for the timely conduct of general elections.

President Kiir, Civil Society Activist Discusses December Elections

Juba, 25th January 2024 — President Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Wednesday met with the Executive Director of Community Empowerment and Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani, to discuss the roles of civil society organizations in sensitizing civil population and participation in the conduct of the national elections in December 2024.

Mr. Edmund Yakani, commended President Kiir for his firm commitment to conduct free, fair and democratic elections, adding that the civil society will rally behind political leadership to prepare the country for December exercises.

The Activist further called on political leaders to address challenges facing the National Electoral Commission, a necessary prerequisite for the timely conduct of the general elections.

President Kiir Receives Newly Accredited German Ambassador to South Sudan

Juba, 24 January 2024-President Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Wednesday received a letter of credence from Ambassador Christian Sedat, the newly accredited head of German diplomatic mission in South Sudan.

Ambassador Christian Sedat, said Germany remains a strong ally and a friend of the people and Government of South Sudan, reaffirming Berlin’s commitment to continue to deepening bilateral relations, and diplomatic cooperation in the areas of humanitarian needs and peace implementation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. James Pitia Morgan, said the two countries will work together to enhance the existing cooperation to advance the interest of the two nations.

Major General Matur Chut Dhuol, the former Governor of Lakes State, passed away today. Born in South Sudan, Dhuol was a prominent figure in the region's politics and military.
Dhuol was a respected leader who served as the Governor of Lakes State. He was known for his dedication to the welfare of his people and his commitment to peace and stability in the region. His passing is a significant loss for the people of Lakes State and the entire country.
Dhuol's life was marked by tragedy, as he lost his elder brother, Chief Apareer Chut, in a shooting incident in Pacong Payam of Lakes State on August 5, 2014.This event had a profound impact on Dhuol and his family.

As a military leader, Dhuol played a crucial role in maintaining peace and security in the region. He was known for his bravery and leadership, which earned him the respect of his fellow soldiers and the people he served.
Dhuol's passing is a reminder of the challenges faced by leaders in South Sudan, who must navigate complex political and security situations while striving to improve the lives of their people. His legacy will live on in the memories of those who knew him and the positive impact he had on the region.

Tuesday, 23rd January, 2024 - Kuajok.

The Governor of Warrap State H.E Kuol Muor Muor, arrived in Kuajok after his official visit to Juba. He was received at Kuajok Airport by the deputy Governor H.E Aluel Garang Garang, and the State Cabinet as well as State MPS and the general public.

Upon his arrival, Governor Kuol, met with the Chief Administrator of Ruweng Administrative Area H.E Stephano Wieu de Mialek, and his accompanying delegations in Kuajok at State General Secretariat on his way to Biehnhom County. He thanked the Chief Administrator and his accompanying delegations for their endless cooperation to the government and people of Warrap State.

Addressing the gathering at the State General Secretariat, Governor Kuol, briefed the State Government and the People of Warrap on his official visits to Juba and the successful fundraising event that generated 1.2 Million Dollars and over 200 Million South Sudanese Pounds for the Construction of Warrap State General Secretariat and Agriculture production to fight hunger in the State.

He says the Presidential orders on the resolutions of Conflicts in Warrap and its neighbouring States must be respected and implemented as soon as possible to end the communal violence in the State, and He ordered the Commissioners of Gogrial West, East and Tonj South Counties to immediately establish auctions markets for Cattle selling within the areas of Warrap as it will generates taxes for the government of Warrap State. Governor Kuol declared Saturday as the official day for general cleaning and Trees plantations in Warrap State.

He assured the government and people of Warrap State that the Independence anniversary of 9th July, 2024 will be celebrated in the new building of the State Secretariat General and the Power connection and Water Supply will start as soon as possible in the first Week of February 2024. Juba police headquarters deploys 3,000 strongman force across the city ahead of Christmas

The South Sudan National Police Service has said in a statement it has deployed more than three thousand personnel across the capital city in preparation for Christmas and prosperous New year celebrations.

The forces have since launched an indiscriminate stop and search exercise along major streets that one road user says has caused, "rough flow of traffic"

Two separate incidents have brought to the forefront the major challenges humanitarian agencies are facing in South Sudan, a joint IOM and UNHCR statement said earlier in the week.

In the first incident, two refugees were tragically killed in an attack against a convoy organized by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) transporting Sudanese refugees from Abyei to the Wedweil refugee settlement. On the same day, a boat facilitated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) began taking on water due to high winds and rough water – all on board were moved to different boats and proceeded safely to Malakal.
