OPP leaders meet President Kiir, express support for elections
Juba, Wednesday (February 28, 2024) – H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the leaders of the Other Political Parties (OPP) held a meeting on the upcoming general elections.
Speaking on behalf of OPP, Kornelo Kon Ngu said OPP supports the conduct of elections in December 2024 to allow the people of South Sudan to choose their leaders in a free democratic process.
Ngu called on the citizens to prepare themselves for the first-ever general elections slated for December 2024.

The Governor of Warrap State H.E Kuol Muor Muor, paid a courtesy visit to Wartit Police training Centre in Kuajok.
Addressing the trainees, Governor Kuol,
thanks the administration of South Sudan National Police Service for opening the three months refreshment training course of 1,000 Police Personnel which will strengthen their capability to restore rule of law and to protect the citizens and their properties. He urged the trainees to respect themselves and their trainers.
Governor Kuol appeal to the Administration of Police Service to urgently graduates them on time as the State is in urgent need of the maximum Police force to tackle the crimes that are happening in the State.
He affirmed his full time support to make sure the current batch is graduated on time. The Governor donated 100 bags of Maize flour to the trainees to cater for their daily meals during the training time.

The Governor of Warrap State H.E Kuol Muor Muor, urged the returnees that fled Khartoum Crisis to remain patience as the State government and partners are working around the clock to make sure everyone reaches the final destination.
He says being a refugee is not crimes as some of you left the country because of violence, war and hunger during our liberation struggle and between 2013 and 2016. If God protects you in the foreign land than you should feel free and worry less even though you are facing many challenges because you are inside your own country, and preparation are underway for your settlements. D-day as police cadets poised for graduation in Juba
Over 800 police officers who have attended upgrading training will graduate at Dr. John Garang Mausoleum in Juba.
The Deputy Spokesperson of the South Sudan National Police Service, James Dak, told The City Review yesterday that the graduates will include police cadets and those who have served for the past five to 10 years based on their performances and disciplines.
“There is something called upgrading, which means there are officers who have served for the last five or ten years at the rank of warrant officers and they are upgraded because of their performance to become officers,” he explained.
He added, “We also have graduates in different fields and there are pure cadets who are the students with school certificates who applied to become police officers and they are in two batches of 22 and 23, which is a very huge team.”
Dak added that a committee shall be formed by the directorate in administration and finance after graduation to deploy the officers to the states and administrative areas.
“The distribution will be done according to the batch, where the upgrading batch will have their institution and the batches of 22 and 23 will have their distribution,” he said, adding President Salva Kiir will grace the ceremony.
He said the officers are expected to begin their duties immediately owing to the electoral preparations.
“The batch will have a very big challenge because we are coming towards elections in December and they will be the very batch to enforce law enforcement so they have a huge task to be carried out,” he stated.
“The period of the training varies, the students were supposed to have only two years, for diplomas, we give them two years; and for upgrading, the training is supposed to be nine months so the period elapses due to other circumstances,” Dak explained.
Last month, the Inspector General of Police, Gen. Atem Marol Biar, announced plans for comprehensive training to address professionalism issues within the national police force.
He emphasised the “need for a nationwide refreshment training initiative to focus on investigation, practical skills, and physical training.”

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology announces the Egyptian postgraduate scholarship for South Sudanese Students to apply. About 50 postgraduates scholarships programs for both the masters and PhDs. The academic year is 2024-2025. The deadline is 15 of March 2024.

The government of Warrap State in collaboration with health partners launched the Polio Vaccination Campaign in Kuajok.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor of Warrap State H.E Kuol Muor Muor, appreciated the health partners for their endless support towards the people of South Sudan since the liberation struggle till today. He appeals to health partners to put more effort to end the Polio outbreak in the Country as it's a dangerous disease that has paralysis many children in South Sudan.
On his part, the State Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Barac Malith Atem, thanked the health partners and the national ministry of health for their tireless efforts towards strengthening the Country’s immunization System. He says Polio is a dangerous disease that cripples and can sometimes kill children which doesn't have cure unless to be prevented with vaccine. The UNICEF representative Tekla Filbert, says the campaign is targeting 386,000 children from 1-59 months in Warrap State.

President Kiir meets US Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Africa
Juba, Wednesday (February 28, 2024) – H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit met with the United States Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Africa, Sudan, and South Sudan in the Bureau of African Affairs, Peter Lord, to discuss the December general elections.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Lord appealed to South Sudanese political leaders to conduct free and fair general elections.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. James Pitia Morgan, who was in attendance, said President Kiir assured the US envoy of his commitment to conducting peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections at the end of the transitional period.

The Governor of Warrap State H.E Kuol Muor Muor, officiated the opening of three days Worksop on the capacity building of Women in the Constitution making process and elections.
Speaking during the event, Governor Kuol, reiterated his government committemnt to support women and he acknowledged the great roles played by partners towards strengthening the capacity building of women in Warrap State and beyond. Governor Kuol, directed the State Minister of Gender to organise Warrap State Women convention to give them space to conduct their election.
The Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare Hon. Rose Ayang Ayok, described the workshop as it will strengthen women capacity to advocates for peace and togetherness among each other, she urged women to unite and claims their 35% representation in all areas which will creates political space for women to exercise their duties.
The workshop was organised by South Sudan women peace monitoring and advocacy group funded by United Nations Mission in South Sudan. The workshop was attended by fifty women in different institutions.

Just in: The Minister of Information, Communication, Technology and Postal Services Michael Makuei has dismissed sentiments by businesses that government must provide loans for the private sector to spur economic growth.
Minister Makuei says companies must approach commercial banks and use their assets for borrowing.
The information minister was speaking in an interview with Radio Miraya after addressing the press this afternoon on the economic and security challenges that the government is facing.
Minister Makuei charged at the businesses saying in the past, government has disbursed funds to the private sector to supply basic commodities and those contracted failed to deliver as expected.
Speaking at the same press briefing, the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan James Alic Garang said government officials have made a trip to the Nimule border to assess non-oil revenue collections.
Garang says government's focus must be on stimulating production to save the economy.

The Governor of Warrap State H.E Kuol Muor Muor, met with the Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State H.E Sarah Cleto Hassen, in Wau to discussed the implementation of Presidential orders on the resolution of Conflicts between Twic and the Ngok Dinka, Marial Wau and Apuk Communities.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Governor Kuol, described the meeting as it will pave the way to bring the lasting peace between the two sisterly communities. He thanked the Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State H.E Sarah Cleto, for honouring the invitation to attend the peace rally that will commence this week in Kuajok to disseminates the presidential orders dated 16th January, 2024 to resolve the inter-communal violence between the respective communities through initiation of dialogue to reconcile the Ngok Dinka of Abyei Special Administrative Area, Marial Wau Community of Western Bahr el Ghazal State and Apuk Community of Warrap State.
The Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State H.E Sarah Cleto Hassen, thanks the Governor of Warrap State and his accompanying delegations for attending the important meeting which outlined the modalities on how to bring the permanent peace between the two sisterly communities. she affirmed her government committemnt to implement the presidential orders to restore the lasting peace between the two communities.
The meeting was attended by the Joint head of Security Forces and the government officials between the two States.

The two leaders discussed matters of diplomatic interest.
Burhan met al-Menfi amid ongoing conflict in his nation between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, RSF.
Fighting between the rival forces has led to the destruction of property, the death of thousands and displacement of almost eight million people in Sudan, according to the United Nations.

President Kiir, SSOA leaders discuss December Elections
Juba, Monday (February 26, 2024) – H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday met with the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) leaders, who expressed their readiness and support for the conduct of elections in December this year.
The Chairperson of SSOA, Hon. Josephine Joseph Lagu, said it is high time the government give the people of South Sudan an opportunity to exercise their constitutional rights to choose their leaders.
Josephine also appealed to the political leaders to engage in dialogue and reach a consensus in principle to move the country towards elections as enshrined in the September 2018 peace agreement.

The Governor of Warrap State H.E Kuol Muor Muor, met on Saturday 24th February 2024, with the local Chiefs and Administrators of Pagol North Payam of Tonj North County of Warrap State.
Governor Kuol, urged the local chiefs and Community of Pagol North Payam to corporates with the state government by reporting all forms of crimes and cattle raiders to end the violence in the area. He says Green Book Bill was passed by the State Parliament and assented into law which is already effective and it will not compromise criminals and the instigators of communal violence in Warrap State.
He appeals to the local population to embark on Agriculture as it's priorities by the state government to fight hunger in Warrap State. The local Administrators are directed to restrict the loitering of the people in the local markets starting in the first Week of April 2024, so that they must embark on Agriculture production.
The Governor was accompanied by the State Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Hon. Agem Akotdit, Hon.William Deng Koor Minister of local government and the Members of Tonj North Peace Committee.

The South Sudan Basketball Federation General Assembly 2024, presided by President Luol Deng, convened last week.
The SSBF ExCo presented the previous four-year term reports as well as plans for the future of basketball in South Sudan.
The two-day event concluded with the General Assembly passing resolutions and a collective vow to continue building the sport throughout the nation.

Egypt to establish Alexandria University branch in Juba, Tonj
The national Minister of Higher Education, Science and
Technology, Hon. Gabriel Changson Chang and his Egyptian counterpart, Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Research, have signed a revised Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Alexandria University South Sudan branch today. The officials met today at the Ministry's Hall of Universities Development in Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. Anei Mangong Anei, the coordinator for the Alexandria branch, has confirmed this on his official page.
The MOU outline the installation of two branches in South Sudan.
" South Sudan Branch shall open two Campuses, one in Tonj and the other in Juba. Tonj Campus will open first within 2024." The post reads in part.
This official announcement is a significant benchmark for the University's expansion plan and a testament to both countries' commitment to promoting quality education and strengthening their diplomatic ties.
The first agreement, in 2018, spelt out the opening of the Egyptian University in Tonj town, Warrap State. In 2019, President Salva Kiir appointed Dr Anei Mangong as the follow-up coordinator between Juba and Cairo for establishing the university branch.

The Spokesperson of the SSPDF Major General L*l Ruai Koang, issues a statement on the last night's fire incident at Giada Military facility, injuring 8 people including two civilians, seeking treatment at the military medical facilities in Juba.
SSPDF Spokesperson, who in his statement attributed the outbreak of fire 🔥 to change in temperatures, confirms that the army has stepped up an investigation into the circumstances leading to the massive explosion at the country's most guarded ammunition facility, leaving Juba residents wondering.

Atem Marol Biar and his accompanied delegation which comprise of A/IGP for Traffic, A/IGP for border police, the Director of Professional standard as well as the Director General of CRNPI are in Nimule border to assess the General working environment of the Police officers at the border.while in Nimule General Atem and his accompanying delegation meet with the police officers working at Nimule border and directed them to cooperate among themselves and work professionally and avoid extortion.officers were also directed to improve the revenue collections and remit to the government account not to individual accounts said the IGP.

President Kiir returns to Juba after a successful regional peace tour
Juba, Friday (February 23, 2024) - H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit this evening returned to Juba after a two-day peace tour within the East African Community amidst heightened tensions in the region.
In his capacity as the Chairperson of the regional bloc, President Kiir held discussions with his counterparts - Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Évariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi - on approaches to deepen inter-partner state relations and improve regional peace and security.
The Head of State urged the EAC leaders to ensure peace and stability prevail, particularly in the eastern part of DR Congo, said Dr. James Pitia Morgan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Upon arrival at the Juba International Airport, President Kiir was received by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and other senior government officials.

Addressing the public rally at the County headquarters, Governor Kuol disseminates Warrap State Conflict Resolution and Sustainable Development Act, 2024 (Green Book Bill) to the people of Tonj North County. He urged the citizens to corporates with the government to handover fi****ms to the relevant authorities and reports all the criminals before the government imposed forceful disarmament. Governor Kuol, urged the civilians to refrain in all forms of violence to allow the peace to prevail in Warrap State and beyond as the Green Book will not compromise anyone.
The people of Tonj North agreed on the resolutions of Green Book calling for the government to urgently implement as it will allow peace to prevail in the State.
The Governor was accompanied by Minister of Cabinet Affairs Hon. Agem Akotdit, Minister of Local government Hon. William Deng Koor, and the State MPS.
