JUBA CITY IS DESERTED

Date: December 23. 2024

By James Nguen

Juba City is deserted and now it’s an empty ghost town. The BIG BOYS and their CREWS have left Juba in the wee hours.

The Big Boys and their CREWS are the close relatives, the children, the wives, the top executives, the Generals and the confidants of the BIG men and women - the ugly power enablers in suits and in uniforms.

These are men and women who are being driven in v8s and 2023 v6s - the latest model. They are the men and women who live in BIG COMPOUNDS, high end hotels and apartments for decades since independence and whose office spaces are located in the top GLASS WINDOWS.

Their offices are furnished to the brinks with comfy chairs, big sofas and king size beds for a nap when needed. If you will, you can call Juba a paradise with dirty streets and where almost everyone loves being called a very important person - zool Kabiir who possesses a gun and is protected.

After desertion, Juba is now quieter. No goddamned deafening sirens or big guns rolling on the Juba’s dirty streets. The big guns which often scare off the war - traumatized widows, orphans, bike boys and poverty-ridden folks who camped on the roadsides selling and buying products while some of whom are sitting, waiting for nothingness but occasionally asking for a small change from buyers in suits and driven in tinted V8s.

I am not part of the BIG Boys nor am I part of the Crews who deserted Juba at the wee hours for FUN in Eastern Africa. These Big Boys and their Crews deserted Juba and have just gone awol for the late night partying and showing off in East Africa and beyond during this Holiday season.

In Juba and countryside, the marginalized destitutes and the powerless lot are left behind starving, dying, sitting and with sunken eyes and sipping unfinishing sugary red tea under trees, while wondering and not knowing what this dying year 2023 and the next year will bring.

These poverty-ridden folks know that it’s Christmas TIME but have nothing else to do besides playing endless bigwig politicians of appointing and dismissing certain cabinet Ministers and Undersecretaries.

What is true though, President Salva, His First Vice President and the other 4 Vice Presidents are in Juba too. However, their confidants, their Generals, their children and their wives have left Juba in the wee hours for high-end holidays in distant places, like the United Arab Emirate, Nairobi, Cairo, Addis Ababa, Kampala, Sydney, Doha, London and New York.

These Generals, these close relatives, these confidants, these children and wives of these top leaders owned and ran everything in Juba. These boys and women are immensely powerful. They call political shots and they are the untouchable businessmen and women who without any question cut deals, award or win liquidative Government of South Sudan's arm deals, technology, communications, motor vehicle fleets, oil, mining, banking and pharmaceutical contracts.

As usual, these BIG BOYS and their CREWS who just left Juba for far away places are moving around with hard currency stashed in their suitcases or in fat bank accounts. Sadly, they spend and drink away these monies mindlessly without considering the people and the country.

Like it or not, these folks are filthy rich and have amassed ill-gotten wealth through shady business deals. It’s true that these BIG BOYS and their CREWS are FILTHY wealthy but found a way to fool many of us by acting innocent and destitutes like you and I.

This is how it’s and a way to go. To put this issue in a better light, simply say, it is a crazy world run by heartless people who were once prophesied long ago by NGUNDENG.

For the record, it is true that Dr. John Garang Mabior died 18 years ago and the Seventh Front has died with him too. Learned people like Abraham Awolich, Peter Biar Ajak, Goi Jock Yol, Garang Kuot and I have deserted Juba too.

We went there in the first place with good intention to help. At best and at least to knowledge transfer. However, this knowledge transfer isn't working. It seemed, the big men and women in Juba don't need knowledge transfer or corrections. Now, my Red army comrades are now back in our individual refugee’ status countries. Now, we are aggresively fighting cold weather and flu without retreat. This is sad! It’s sad that we cannot expatriate our acquired knowledge to help the people and South Sudan prosper.

In the process of attempting this endeavor of knowledge transfer, some of us had to run away for their lives from Juba. Others just found themselves out of place but back in our naturalized home countries in the sea of extreme weather of ice and snow.

As a matter of fact, some of us have no choice but to stay-put and put on brave faces while waiting for never arriving goddamn prosperity and freedom in our home birth country. In a stark contrast, the big boys and their crews are enjoying our country’s richness exclusively without shame or regard for those who helped liberated this country.

In this holiday season, in this time of festivities and worships of the Africans’ and the White man's God(s), I must say, HAPPY HOLIDAYS to my country’s destitutes lot sleeping with empty stomachs in their tukuls and in their canvas shacks in the UN POC Camps in Unity State, Malakal, Wau and Juba.

I salute my dead comrades who passed on in the course of the struggle including my Dad who participated in Anyanya One (1) war but never received an acknowledgement from the men on the top.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

The Palestinians civilians are being burn alive and innocent CHILDREN are being slaughtered .

Majority of the world is silent. The Centres of the world’s powers tend to think Israel has a right to self- defense even though it means killing the 2 millions Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

This is a collateral damage and Hamas is to blame and not the killers. I don’t agreed. However, the world is following the script.

This is how the WORLD WORKS according to Mr. Naom Chomsky and I tend to agree.

The Rights MEN are relative. A MAN’S RIGHTS correspond with one’s “POWER and WEALTH”.

If a MAN have no power and wealth, essentially THAT MAN have no “RIGHTS” and have No Rights to exist. Thus, the GAZA STRIP must be ERASE completely on Map. Make no mistake about it.

I am sure you REMEMBER the CLUSTER BOOMS used against the WHITE ARMY. Whose rights to exists was being defended then and now?

MY HONEST ADVICE TO BIG MAN-ZOL KABIR!

Gen. Simon Maguek G*i, Hon. Riaw Gatlier G*i and Hon. Stephen Taker Riak announced that they were sent to Leer, Unity State by H. E. the President, Salva KIIR Mayardit to cause harm.

They are not hesitant and afraid to say this damning implication on the National Television- SSBC.

Should anything terrible happened in Leer County in the next few days, these three men would simply say, they were implementing or acting on orders of the BIG MAN, the President.

Now, why do you implicate the President in the board daylight and at dawn, if one sincerely love his principles and policies?

If I was President Salva KIIR’s confidant and have his ears, I would promptly advise the president to summon these men to return to Juba immediately.

No more bloodshed! The people and the country have suffered enough. The international sanctions are eating us alive and as a result, our people are starving.

Last month, all our country’s income generating ministries and institutions were sanctioned and restricted to do business overseas.

Well placed individuals and government officials in this country were accused of promoting and perpetuating violence in South Sudan, all were also sanctioned.

The mobilization in Koch County is ongoing. MR. PRESIDENT, DO SOMETHING!

“THE LOOTING MACHINE””

SOUTH SUDANESE: If you know how to read and write, and did not yet read “The Looting Machine” by Tom Burgis, it’s time to get a copy.

The similarities are starkly profound. We have the SPLM in South Sudan, they have the MPLA in Angola. We have the NIlePet in South Sudan, the Angolans have Sonangol.

They have “Futungo” in Angola, we have the “FIRST FAMLIES” in South Sudan.

They have Isabel dos Santos, Vincente, Kopelipa and Dino in Angola, in our case, we have the same shades in this beautiful Country.

WE ARE F**K! And I mean it.

The staggeringly and unparalleled similarities in both countries are madly identical.

The Regrettable Mistake Gen. Simon Maguek G*i Majaak Must Not Make

The regrettable mistake that Gen. Simon Maguek Majaak must not make is traveling to Thonyor, Leer County, Unity State with an intention to mobilize Dok Youth (Pieny & Tarir) and incite them against each other.

There is no justifiable reason for Gen. SIMON Maguek to travel to Leer County rather than to mobilize and incite youth to fight each other on baseless grounds.

It was reported that Gen. MAGUEK is planning to travel to Leer in the next few days by a reliable source.

If this trip occurred and incitement happened amongst civilians in Leer, I must state that this move would be Gen. Simon Maguek’s BIGGEST mistake and will have an enduring and unerasable guilt on him for the rest of his life.

Also, the truth of the matter is, the seat of the Government of South Sudan is in Juba and Gen. Simon Maguek must remain in Juba awaiting deployment from the SSPDF or be appointed to any position in the government.

Dok as people are apolitical and must never be mobilized to ignite violence in order to advance a certain misplaced political agenda. There are no Dok youth for Gen. Simon Maguek G*i nor they are other Dok youth for another Dök.

Similarly, there are no Dok to be mobilized or be brought to someone else's side. This false narrative is wrong and must be condemn in the strongest terms possible

Dok civilians are the Dok people whose Commissioner is Hon. Stephen Taker Riak D**g mandated by the Government of National Unity. Thus, the commissioner has the responsibility of protecting the life of every Dök.

Commissioner Hon. Taker must not once against allowed the beheading of young men, castration of boys, ra**ng of young women and girls, burning alive the elderly and merciless killing of innocent civilians in Leer which not longer ago occurred in his watching. These criminal activities are unacceptable and should not be repeated

For any Dök to entertain this false narrative of mobilizing Dok to join certain political camps using violence is wrong. Indeed, such an act is a criminal offense punishable under the law.

If Gen. Simon Maguek G*i Majak is indeed taking this route of intending to cause violence as reported and a single blood of Dök dropped, Gen. Simon Maguek will be held to account and squarely responsible.

Therefore, I strongly recommend that Gen. Simon Maguek G*i Majaak must not make this mistake. I advised him to reconsider.

The October 7th Declaration

On October 7th, 2023, the Declaration of Defection of Gen. Simon Maguek G*i from the SPLM/A-IO to SPLM - IG was announced.

Gen. Simon Maguek Majaak is a senior and disciplined SPLA/M’s Military General of SHIELD ONE. He was a trusted officer who escorted the current SSPDF Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Gen. Santino Deng Wol and former CDF Gen. Paul Malong Awan Anei to Bilpam for training, when both men were civilians in the 1980s.

When Gen. Maguek defected from the SPLA/M - IO to SPLM - IG, he cited subordination and neglect. On a similar note, it was unnerving and unsettling seeing this decorated GENERAL of SHIELD ONE being received by civilians in civilians’ clothing at the SPLM House. Where is the CDF Comrade Gen. Deng Wol in the equation?

On the 8th of October, I suspected the defected GENERAL woke up smelling the red and felt somehow subordinated and humiliated. For one, his defection was confidently turned into a Nuer Nation’s Affairs. For example, Gen. Maguek was received by none other than Nuer civilians and political turncoats, namely Hon. Peter Lam Both (Nuer), Hon. Dr. Joseph Nguen Manytuil (Nuer) and the Commissioner of Leer County, Hon. Stephen Taker Riak D**g (Nuer). Gen. Simon Maguek, welcome to the RED ZONE full of lies and hypocrisy.

For the rest of us, we were at peace and undisturbed here in Juba. The dawn of October 8th was calm, peaceful and the earth under our feet did not collapse inward in the night.

Similarly, in the Mainland (Tharcieng), the birds were still singing and cattle were released for grassing at the shores of Lueng River. Nothing terrible occurred and no change at all as night turned to day. Sun rose in the East and sat in the West. Life goes on. Chiefly, Gatnyinyär was also calm and collected. Life goes on in Pilieny as usual.

Peace remains elusive in my country. But, tranquility in my hometown prevailed. At least, no one's child had to run, suffer, die or perhaps be beheaded by some heartless amateurs to prove nothingness.

After the declaration was made, the proponents and the claimed owners of the October 7th Declaration went back to the United Nations Protection of Civilians Site (POC), for a meal and a nap. Indeed, no one takes anyone seriously. No one cares in Juba. The cardinal principles on how men do business in a civilized setting have evaporated. Cautious approaches meant to avoid SHAME were long ago abandoned. Life goes on.

The poor reception of Gen. Simon Maguek was an indicative that the declaration of defection fell in deaf ears. It was considered the same nonsensical repeat of the same old. The receptors are somewhat tired and could no longer accommodate and feed the defected for a day or two. Welcome to the RED ZONE! A Red Zone full of red lies and hypocrisy.

In this fiasco, the Lord had to be consulted. I learned some of the defectors went to the house of the Lord or the house of Ngundeng for solace. They did so on the 8th of October to ask for a half cooked daily bread. Call this half cooked meal a kumnia if you will.

Welcome to the world of nothingness. The world of no ideological frameworks but where red lies prevails. No one gives a damn in the Red institution. Almost everyone in Juba is a beggar or thief in some forms. Life goes on. Dr. John Garang is dead and was buried 6 meters down almost 20 years ago. Life goes on. The lion’s cubs were subsequently dispersed and majority of them were exiled and still in exile. Life goes on.

For your information, it was true and still is, that Gen. William Gatjiath Deang went back to his vomit after awol. He was told by his receptors that no one recognizes him in his decorated military attire and ranks. When Gen. Gatjiath was chased, insulted and left Bilpam almost 10 years ago, he was told that he didn’t have any of the ranks he was carrying. When he returned, he was made private or to hell. Life goes on.

I respected Gen. Simon Maguek’s decision to switch sides. Best of LUCK GENERAL! Welcome to the world of nothingness. Here, we have only one bulldog in this neighborhood of Amarate or City. The rest were forcefully made amateurs and still amateurs. Life goes on.

When my friends and I attempted to give logical and uncorrupted counsel to the defecting, we were accused of conspiring. We were marked as sent agents who intended to brainwash someone of old age. Say, the hawkers’ “prey”. The hawkers felt afraid that they might be outsmart and lose grip of their prey in the process.

As a result, we were condemned and marked for one or two deadly punches or taught a lesson if need be. I wondered what has become of the people I was well- versed with? Perhaps, people I know who would often think before acting.

In no time, my friends were shoved, pushed and punched violently, to prove nothing but foolishness. I excused myself when the environment became hostile or turned into the wild west.

This tact of avoiding confrontation was well emphasized in one of my lectures, at the Pilieny School of Thoughts. I was taught that no intelligent man would fight over nothingness to prove nothing. The engineered confrontation was not worth fighting for.

Here in Juba, on the 9th of October, the Social Media was flooded with fake news alleging that a violent coup d'etat had occurred and yet there was none. “Life goes on, everyday another baby is born” as SPANNER Banner sang his chorus.

Meanwhile, Comrade Chuaidök is in his tukul sitting, thinking, meeting, writing and eating lentils and beans undisturbed. Life goes on, as kuiyang reigns while principled and educated men and women go unutilized.

WHY CAPITALIZE ON SOMETHING YOU HAVE NO POWER OVER, AND CANNOT DEFENDS OR CHANGE?

Folks, the rules of the game in this country are well known and established, and we know who decides and who’s the LAW.

It’s a lie that some people in Unity State have invented this false hope of possession of power and independence, which does not exists for last 10 years.

Where were you, and what did you do when Gatluak was burned alive and others were fire squaded in your faces?

Where were you, and what did you do when BANYPINY was murdered by beheading or his head chopped off? Where were you?

Where were you, and what did you do when women and young girls in Unity State were gang r***d to death in lieu of militias’ salaries and forcefully abducted for wives? Where were you?

Where were you, and what did you do when boys were castrated and left for dead, and properties looted and destroyed? Where were you?

Where were you, and what did you do when the northern parts of Unity State, particularly in Guit, Mayom and Rubkhona were violently annexed to the Ruweng Administrative Area by force and stroke of a pen? Where were you?

I personally opposed and continue to objects dredging in its all forms or shapes but because those who have power decided that dredging must happen, it happened and it is ongoing. The dredging which is currently happening in Unity State has nothing to do flooding and will not mitigate and alleviate our people sufferings.

People of Unity State, why are pretending that you have power when you and I know quite well that we don’t? What is this senseless stupidity and sycophancy syndrome?

This is H. E. Dr. William Samoe Ruto. The President of the Republic of Kenya. I am immensely proud and grateful seeing wearing his traditional attire.

In my honest honest, this proud and strong statesman is changing the narrative and putting the Africans’ way of life, customs and traditions at the center stage.

Look at the look, the smile, the laugh, the facial expression and the unique one leg stand that I once used to do while herding my calves and goats. Very profound and meaningful in so many contexts.

This strong African statesman, the leader people and government of Kenya is at peace with oneself and immensely proud to be who he is. I thanked him for this meaningful historical portrait.

After this generation, for the next generations, Mr. President’s grand, grandchildren will forever be proud to be Kenyans and Africans.

For us, the meaning of this portrait seems tiny and at times meaningless, but it’s huge, will be memorized and adored, in a historical sense 200 years down the road.

With no uncertainty terms, I believe our people will still be here, well and alive. For Christians and followers of Christ, FORGET IT, Jesus will not come and destroy the world as preached.

Died as a Martyr

Date: July 30th, 2023

By James Nguen Nyol

Today is July 30th, 2023. It is a Public National Holiday in the Republic of South Sudan. It is a MARTYRS’ DAY. It’s a day dedicated to the heroes and heroines, those who paid the ultimate sacrifices for their lives, for the nation and for us to be free. For a long short, it's Remembrance Day.

Today also was a day when Dr. John Garang Mabior died in a terrible helicopter crash in 2005. May his precious soul rest in eternal peace! Politics aside, July 30th is the MARTYRS' DAY, not DR. JOHN GARANG’s DAY.

Therefore, the question is, is Dr. John Garang De Mabior a martyr and does his death fit the grand concept of martyrdom? In short, yes, but let me elaborate.

This paper is an attempt to answer this pertinent question, the above question, dying as a martyr and the concept of martyrdom. But firstly, let me share the definition of the word martyr for my readers, for better understanding.

Martyr is defines as a person who sacrifices something of greater value and especially life itself for the sake of principle or cause of freedom.

Having defined a martyr, let me begin by calling to question whether Dr. John Garang gave his life to something of greater value, principle and cause of freedom.

This week, Al-Jazeera aired Dr. John Garang’s death in a documentary. In the documentary, there are a great deal of conflicting reasons why Dr. John Garang De Mabior Atem died on July 30th, 2005.

Before Dr. John Garang went down to his demise, cursing and yelling, in the course of a crashing helicopter that took his dear life, and that of others on board, we now know that Dr. John Garang met with at least four Western diplomats. These ambassadors included that of the United States of America, the United Kingdoms, the Netherlands and Norway and plus their host, President, H. E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda.

Also, we now know that Dr. John Garang’s meetings with the four ambassadors and President Museveni were centred around oil reserves in South Sudan and the existing contractual agreement between Sudan and China. According to Wayne Madsen, the Western diplomats wanted Dr. Garang’s commitment to scrap the contractual agreement of China, and that new contractual agreements be developed, which would give the West a room to obtain concessions.

It was stated that the meeting did not go well because Dr. John Garang felt he was being coerced and as such he refused to succumb to their demand. In the documentary, it was revealed that the diplomats were reportedly pi**ed and this could have led to John Garang’s demise.

In this respect, people differ over John Garang's death. Some people are still undeterred and convinced that cause of Dr. Garang’s death was a textbook cold assassination scheme. In contrast, the official report said it was a terrible accident.

The first point of disagreement is around the body counts -- people who boarded the crashed helicopter. The official report says that there were 13 persons on board. While the UN and the other institutions or personalities claimed there were 14 and even 17 body counts retrieved in the wreckage. These conflicting messaging generated mistruth, fueled doubts, confusion and suspicion.

To further understand this narrative, it was revealed that Dr. John Garang spent two days in President Museveni’s Ranch in Uganda. Therefore, it remains a mystery when Garang actually met the diplomats in order to give an insightful analysis of the supposed planned assassination scheme.

Furthermore, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda still kept a tight lips on the matter, particularly on the timing of these meetings. His account on this issue is profoundly important in the context of establishing the truth, on whether Dr. John Garang was indeed assassinated by the West.

Because these crucial facts are missing, let’s now take the possibility of “if” scenario. If the timing of the meetings was on the second day, a day where Dr. John had to leave for New Site in the Sudan, then, there is no possible reason to believe that Dr. John Garang was assassinated by the West for refusing to do away with the Chinese’s contractual agreement with Sudan. The timing in this regard is not practical.

Thus, an assassination scheme to take down a personality like Dr. John Garang De Mabior cannot be hashed within matters of hours. This sort of scheme requires and demands a country leadership decision, which cannot be done within days or weeks but months to say the least.

Similarly, even though the said meeting took place on the first day upon John Garang’s arrival in Uganda, a meticulous plan to kill a statue of Dr. John Garang would prove more difficult and futile to execute.

Therefore, this leaves us with no option but to trash the narrative that Dr. John Garang met his fate because refused to heed the Western powers demand. Perhaps, if there is anything to go by, Dr. John Garang’s death was hashed before he planned a trip to Uganda. In my honest opinion, the meetings held in Uganda were to confirm and give a tick mark of the last box.

Under this circumstance, this confirms Ghazi Suleiman’s narrative, a Sudanese lawyer and political activist who revealed that he received a call and was advised not to allow Dr. John Garang not to travel alone to Uganda without the Government of Sudan state protection or else, “he will die”. Suleiman’s intel on the planned assassination scheme, in my view, is bordering on truth and credibility.

In this regard, it is fitting to argue that Dr. John Garang died as a martyr and within the concept of martyrdom.

The chronological reasonings which led to his death were not personal but fall within the concept of martyrdom. Therefore, without any fear of contradiction, I tend to believe that Garang took a stand, and therefore, he was killed for refusing to abandon his principle for something of greater value to the Sudanese.

This concept of martyrdom also applied to late Samuel G*i Tut Yang, Uncle Akuot Atem, William Chuol Deng Luth, William Deng Nhial, Uncle Joseph Oduho, Kerubino Kuanyin Bol, William Nyuon Bany, Arok Thon Arok, John Kulang Puot Wiw and Judge Majier G*i.

While respecting history, these leaders died in the hand of their fellow South Sudanese in the course of liberation with an exception of Arok Thon Arok who died in a helicopter in 1997 and William Deng Nhial who was killed in an election campaign in 1968.

My hat off to all the heroes and heroines who gave their precious lives for freedom, in line of duty in the frontlines, in the bushes of Equatoria, Barh El Gazal and Upper Nile regions, I salute you. Happy Martyr Day!

Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon-PhD
Speech on South Sudan 12th independence day

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today, on this auspicious occasion, we gather here to celebrate the 12th anniversary of our beloved nation, South Sudan. It is a momentous day filled with pride, reflection, and hope for the future. As we stand here, amidst the challenges and conflicts that have plagued our young nation, let us take a moment to appreciate the resilience and strength of each and every citizen of South Sudan.

First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our founding fathers and mothers who relentlessly fought for our independence. It was their vision and determination that led to the birth of our nation, a nation that we now call home. We honor their sacrifice and pay tribute to their unwavering commitment to the freedom and prosperity of our people.

We stand here today, not only as individuals, but as a united South Sudanese people. We are a diverse nation, rich in culture, language, and heritage. Our unity lies in recognizing and celebrating this diversity, for it is our greatest strength. Together, we can overcome any obstacle that comes our way and build a prosperous future for all.

However, let us not forget the challenges we have faced and continue to face as a nation. We have endured conflict, displacement, and economic hardships. Our journey towards peace and stability has been arduous, but we must remain resolute in our pursuit of a better tomorrow. It is during times of adversity that true leaders emerge, and it is our responsibility to rise above our differences and work towards a common goal.

As we celebrate our 12th anniversary, let us also acknowledge the progress we have made. We have taken significant strides in the areas of education, healthcare, infrastructure, and governance. We have seen the power of unity and collaboration in rebuilding our nation. Together, we have the potential to transform South Sudan into a shining example of resilience and progress.

However, the road ahead is long, and there is much work to be done. We must prioritize the welfare of our citizens, ensure their safety, and provide equal opportunities for all. We must invest in education and empower our youth, for they are the future leaders and catalysts of change. We must strengthen our institutions and foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and justice. Only then can we truly achieve the South Sudan that we envision.

On this Independence Day, let us renew our commitment to our nation and its people. Let us embrace the spirit of unity, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Together, we can heal the wounds of the past and build a future filled with peace, prosperity, and harmony. I call upon each and every citizen to contribute their skills, talents, and ideas towards the development of our great nation.

In conclusion, as we celebrate our 12th anniversary, let us remember the words of our national anthem, "Oh God, we praise and glorify you, for your grace on South Sudan, land of great abundance, uphold us united in peace and harmony." May we continue to strive for unity and peace, guided by the principles of justice and equality. Happy Independence Day, South Sudan!

Thank you, and God bless South Sudan!
