Netizens criticize South Sudan Premier League logo as designer offers alternative

Following the unveiling of the new South Sudan Premier League logo, netizens have taken to social media to voice their dissatisfaction. Many have criticized the design as unoriginal and lacking creativity, sparking a heated debate about the standards of professional branding in the country.

Amid the backlash, a graphic designer Manyok Alier has stepped forward with a bold response, presenting an alternative logo as a challenge to the South Sudan Football Association’s (SSFA) official version. The designer’s creation, which has been shared widely online, aims to showcase a fresh, modern approach to capturing the essence of South Sudanese football.

The SSFA has not yet commented on the controversy or the proposed alternative, but the incident has reignited discussions about involving local talent in national branding projects. Many believe that greater collaboration with South Sudan’s creative community could lead to designs that resonate more deeply with the public.

In light of the public reaction, some are calling for a more inclusive approach to the logo’s redesign process. Fans and artists alike have suggested that the SSFA organize an open competition, allowing designers from across the country to submit their ideas. Such an initiative, they argue, would not only produce a better logo but also foster a sense of national pride and community involvement in the league’s development.

To those who deny the letter written by the youth leadership in defense of our interests regarding the appointment of Economist Gatkuoth Kun to the Vice President seat of SPOC:

The community stands united in this matter. Regardless of any strong personal ties with the newly appointed VP, the truth must be acknowledged. The youth leadership has every right to demand the seat that has been taken by someone from as far as Block 5A.

The strong and unshakable relationship between the Koch and Rubkona communities will not be undermined by this appointment. The Koch community is rightfully asserting its claim, and it is unacceptable to side with the newly appointed VP simply because of personal connections to Rubkona. It is essential to speak the truth and stand for what is right, particularly when you are in a position to influence what happens next.

Some have tried to mislead others by falsely claiming that Rubkona County is part of Block 5A, which is not the case. This is an attempt to avoid the truth and a diversion from what is right. Let us support the facts rather than blindly backing decisions that only serve personal interests in the wrong way. It is both impractical and shameful to continue down this path.

Everyone is aware that SPOC is the largest oil producer in Unity State, and in South Sudan as a whole. The environmental damage caused by oil production has severely affected the people of Koch County at all levels, damaging soil and natural resources. The entire country is aware of this, and the people of Koch deserve compensation for the environmental damage they have suffered. This includes the rightful claim to positions such as the Vice President, CD, CA, and other important roles within the company, as the host community.

Even the newly appointed VP must be fully aware that he has been placed in a position that he does not truly deserve. However, we must not accept this as a final decision, as the true victims are our families back home who continue to suffer more than any other community. We will not rest until we reclaim our rightful position, as this is about securing a better future for our people, not fighting against the community of the newly appointed VP.

We are committed to moving forward and claiming what is rightfully ours. This is not a fight against the community the VP comes from, but a fight for justice and fairness. We hope that our letters, written by all community bodies, reach the MD and Minister of Petroleum so that they can hear from us and determine if it is lawful to politically place the community in a position where it should not be.

Let us stand together, united for what is just and right.

Regards
Dictor Williams

The national security law is causing more insecurity and has never provided any security. It is causing insecurity by violating the rights of our people and creating a situation of fear. It frightens them and causes them to fear criticizing their government or demanding services from it. Just imagine, people have not received their salaries and are not able to protest. Why? Because the national security, the police, and the army are being used to threaten the people. Even government officials have repeatedly said that they do not have rubber bullets, and therefore, nobody should protest or demand their rights, as they will be shot with live bullets."

Jagei Community; has and will never be engaged in matters that try to divide the pre-existing cultural and social relationships between herself and its neighbors.

A call, campaign, or even advocacy to bring order within the management of an oil operating company that operates within its territory shouldn't be termed as hatred or jealousy toward sister communities.

A progressive society respects and acknowledges the interests and privileges of a fellow member community. This does not endanger the interests of the member communities.

Our call & campaign for honesty & transparency in appointing individuals to different positions within the companies under BLOCK 5A is directed to both the Ministry of Petroleum and the Management of Nilepet who are the appointing authorities to these positions. We don't intend to direct our dissatisfaction to any county or member counties of the BLOCK 5A.

Our fellow members of BLOCK 5A shouldn't be naive and gang up on us when we come clear on things that affect our livelihoods as a community. We need these authorities to listen to our call for order when nominating and appointing individuals to work for these companies.

As a host community of this particular BLOCK 5A CONCESSIONS — whose headquarters sits in Tharjiath Oil Field, we have the ultimate right to protest against any sort of peculiarity.

We have been endearing these humiliations for a while and we have now chosen not to remain silent anymore because people want to take advantage of our silence as a weakness.

Thanks.

Despite our political differences, we are certain that no Jageah whole tolerates such kind of ignorance, not from the State or Central government, and we urge the Jagei Youth object to this kind of action, we are the victims of the gas pollution and water contamination and the VP of SPOC is ours to claim as the host of Block A or any other member of the Block but it doesn't make any sense for a member of Block B (GPOC) to be appointed as a VP for Block A (SPOC).

Breaking News: Four killed, two injured in shootout at Akol Koor’s residence last night

The South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) spokesperson has confirmed that four people, including two civilians, were killed during a shootout on Thursday night at the residence of General Akol Koor in Thonpiny, Juba. Two other civilians sustained gunshot injuries and are currently in stable condition.

According to SSPDF spokesperson Major General L*l Ruai Koang, the two civilians who died were struck by armored personnel carriers (APCs) deployed to provide reinforcements during the clashes.

The incident occurred when security forces were sent to request General Akol Koor to relocate to his second residence in Jebel. The move was prompted by growing concerns over heightened military activity around his Thonpiny residence, which had caused panic and disruption in the area.

“General Akol Koor has now relocated to his house in Jebel following negotiations led by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Santino Deng Wol,” L*l said in a statement.

General Akol Koor has been allowed one bodyguard and will remain confined to his Jebel residence until further directives are issued by President Salva Kiir.

Investigations into the incident and the circumstances leading to the fatalities are ongoing.

Breaking News: Attempt to Relocate Former Spy Chief to Secret Prison

🔹General Marshall Stephen, the chief of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) Military Intelligence (CMI), has reportedly issued orders for the arrest of former spy chief Gen. Akol Koor Kuc, who is accused of plotting a coup against President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

🔹Sources close to General Marshall confirmed that the directive for Gen. Akol Koor's arrest and isolation came directly from President Kiir today. According to these sources, should Gen. Akol Koor resist, the army is prepared to use force to capture and relocate him to a secret detention facility.

🔹Relatives of the former spy chief have claimed that no written order was presented, unlike in previous instances where the army had acted formally, such as when they disarmed Gen. Akol Koor's bodyguards during a similar operation. On that occasion, the general complied, releasing his guards and allowing their replacement by soldiers from the SSPDF’s elite Tiger Division.

🔹Tonight, senior military and intelligence officials confirmed the arrest and isolation plan, with the following high-ranking figures allegedly involved in the operation:

1) Gen. Marshall Stephen Babenan, SSPDF 2)Chief of Military Intelligence
3) Gen. Paul Nang Majok, Senior SSPDF Commander
4) Gen. Gum Makuac, SSPDF Tiger Division Commander
5) Gen. Charles Ciec Mayor, National Security Service (NSS) Internal Security Bureau (ISB)

The situation remains tense, and further developments are expected.
