The image showcases Chief Giir Thiik Riiny, the highest-ranking leader of the Apuk Giir Community in Rek Dinka, located in Gogrial east, Warrap State.
Chief Giir Thiik, also known as Giir-Mangardit or Giir Ahac-Lei, was born in his hometown of Luanyakeer in Apuk Pathuon of the Rek Dinka section. He was born approximately between 1887 and 1890. He was a member of the Pahol clan, which eventually became known as Pakuec.
Bany Gir Thiik assumed the role of the highest-ranking chief of Apuk in approximately 1924, overseeing the management of the nine (9) sections of Apuk until his demise in 1974.
One of the renowned Jieng Chiefs of the previous century, Great Giir Thilk Riiny, has solidified his place as one of the famous Jieng Paramount chiefs for eternity.
Throughout a span of almost two decades, Chief Güir-Managardit vehemently opposed the transfer of Abyei to North or Khordufan.
Legend Giir- Mangardit Together with other famous Jieng Chiefs such as Kuac Kuac (Kuac-Manyiel) Paramount chief of Cimel chiefdom of Palieupiny section of Malual Dinka (Aweil west), Chief Manyang Jok of Ador section of Kiec /Ciec Dinka of Yirol, Kuol Amet chief of Kuac , Ariik Mawien Ariik paramount chief of Lou , Makuei Bilkuei the paramount chief of Panaruu Dinka , Chief Riiny Lual Dau of Ayat chiefdom of Palieupiny section of Malual Dinka (Aweil west) , Paulinho C***r Ryan of Adiang Section of Twic Mayardit Dinka and among other chiefs of South Sudan participated in Juba conference in 1947 where British administration in the Sudan decided the future of Southern Sudan. In the conference Chief Giirdit showed his nationalism where he got respect from different chiefs of South Sudan
Chief Giir Thiik was the longest ruling Jieng chief, he nearly ruled for 50 years.
Legend Giir Mangardit Died on Dec 5th 1974 and was laid to rest in his native village, Luonyakeer in Apuk.
