If after breakup the two people still remain in contact, it's either because there were never in love or they still are. Once people have crossed the romantic or sexual line there's no going back or "relating normally." Feeling are wild things and are like an unruly dog they remember they were once indulged and they will crave for a repeat once that person is in view again. Either that or the pian that characterized the breakup will resurface upon meeting the person. Out of the self control you can be decent with an ex lover but you can never be natural or feel nothing around them. This is why honest and mature people will cut contact or minimize interactions with former lovers in order to maintain their mantel and emotional balance.
