Lt. Gen. Bior Ajang Duot’s Service to The Nation
Gen. Bior Ajang Duot served as the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Défense and Veterans affairs in Republic of South Sudan from (2011-2014) Since 2005, he was relieved and assigned to foreign affairs as first-class grade one Ambassador to Republic of Sudan (Khartoum).
Bior Ajang Duot was born in Southern part of the then Sudan around 1950 to Paramount Chief Ajang Duot Bior-kueigaak and Abot Deng Atem Ayach. He was among the youngest South Sudanese who joined school in his early age. He completed his higher education from the Arab Republic of Egypt. Bior was employed by Southern Sudan provisional government as a teacher in Mading-Bor, and later became a Headmaster in Kongor Junior Secondary School in Pawel.
General Bior Ajang Duot is one of the most respected and recognized South Sudanese generals during the liberation struggle periods (1983-2005). He was replaced in 2014 from active service with the rank of 1st Lieutenant General after many years of service during the liberation struggle days to a signing of Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2004/5 (CPA).
Following the commissioning, Bior Ajang Duot graduated from SPLA war college and commissioned as 2nd Lt in 1984 hence he became the deputy chief of Staff for operations in The Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) in 2005.
Bior was to join the movement from its inception in 1983 with 104/105 battalions, but he was given a leadership task to organize the logistic and coordination of people who were travelling to Ethiopia. He was advised and tasked by the underground individuals to remain behind. He and other commanders in the uniform managed to recruit approximately 700 people to join the movement in Ethiopia across the three sections of Greater Bor.
In October 1983, General Bior ordered the closure of all the schools and recruited students and other intellectuals to join the recently rebelled formed movement known as Sudan People’s Liberation Army and Movement
