Without good agricultural practices and proper food handling practices, the public becomes at risk of food-borne illness and other hazards from the food they consume. There are many foodborne illnesses in South Sudan caused by various biological and chemical hazards. The most common foodborne illnesses include cholera, non-typhoidal salmonellosis, tuberculosis, diarrhoeal dysentery, and brucellosis, and the underlying causes of most of these diseases are related to poor agricultural practices, poor hygiene or sanitation, and consumption of contaminated foods. Ruthilla Digital is making a food safety video for ITC aimed at encouraging good agricultural practices, good personal hygiene measures, and food handling practices that protect food from contamination at all stages of the food chain so that the risks of foodborne illness can be minimised. We will share stories and testimonies of farmers, small business owners, and consumers who were trained in quality and food safety by the International Trade Center (ITC) with support from the European Union.
