UPPER NILE STATE: Authorities in Panyikang County have registered a record 4,000 returnees fleeing Sudan's South Kordofan.

County Commissioner Mustafa G*i Lual describes the situation of the returnees as chaotic and needed quick humanitarian intervention.

Meanwhile, he adds that insecurity and illegal checkpoints in the area are hindering flow of goods to civilians.

Lual appeals to authorities in Juba to get rid of numerous illegal checkpoints along the Nile between Jonglei and Upper Nile states.

At approximately 7:30 pm local time, a soldier in the Governor's compound inspected his firearm and it fired itself, leaving him with a minor wound on his forehead.

We want to let the citizens of Jonglei State and beyond know that nothing has occurred as it has been shared on social media. Thus, the incident is not linked in any way to assassination attempts.
