President Kiir urges the newly appointed leaders to unite communities

Juba, Thursday (March 21, 2024) - H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday oversaw the swearing-in ceremony of Hon. Atong Kuol Manyang as the Deputy Governor of Jonglei State and Hon. Deng Jok Angok as Deputy Governor of Upper Nile State.

In his address during the ceremony, President Kiir emphasized the importance of unity and urged the newly appointed state officials to take charge by promoting peace and harmony among the civil populations.

For their part, the senior government officials, who witnessed the ceremony, also urged the deputy governors to promote the spirit of peace and unity among communities and collaborate closely with people in their respective states.

THE SPLM POSITION TOWARDS THE NATIONAL ELECTIONS AS PROVIDED FOR IN THE ROADMAP.

20TH/MARCH/2024

As the country begins the countdown towards the end of the Interim Period as provided for in the Roadmap, the SPLM position has always been very clear. Based on the Resolution of the SPLM Working Committee meeting of the Leadership held on 6 February 2024, the SPLM is ready and willing to participate in the upcoming elections as provided for by the Roadmap in December 2024. We applause those Political Parties signatory to the Agreement that have expressed their readiness to participate in the elections.

We view the agreement interims of its articles which pertain to the conduct of elections and those that require continuous improvement in the area of governance. The substantive institutions and legislations necessary for the conduct of the elections have been put in place. They are:

1. The commencement of the deployment of the Unified Forces;

2. Elections Act;

3. Political Parties Act;

4. Political Parties Council;

5. National Elections Commission; and

6. National Constitution Review Commission.

What now remains is for the National Assembly to approve the budget for the elections institutions in the first week of April 2024 so that they can start their work immediately.

The Political Parties signatory to the R-ARCSS must now dialogue on whether we will go for General Elections or Executive Elections given the budgetary consideration for the elections and the literacy of our voters as too many election boxes for so many candidates might confuse many people on the election day. We propose that we conduct Presidential and Gubernatorial elections in December 2024 and the Parliamentary elections to follow after one year of the elected government.

The rest of the provisions of the R-ARCSS which have been cited ad nauseam as being relevant to the elections are just being used as pretext to seek extension of R-TGONU. They are:

1. New Census: National Elections Act maintains the 332 number of members of the National Assembly who were elected in 2010 (Juba and Khartoum) and for that reason, there is no need to demarcate new constituencies for this upcoming elections. What would therefore be the need to conduct a new census which is not required for this up-coming election?

2. Permanent Constitution: we don't need a Permanent Constitution in order to conduct an election. For that reason, it is a process which will be carried forward for the elected of South Sudan to finish. It is only the elected members of the National Assembly that will decide on the permanent constitution of South Sudan. It cannot be done by a politically appointed parliament.

3. Return of Refugees: return to the country of origin is a voluntary choice of a refugee. The Government of South Sudan is not mandated to return the refugees back to the country by force. Imagine if South Sudan Referendum was to wait until all South Sudanese refugees returned to the country in order to participate in the referendum, what could have happened? Hence, what is plausible is that those outside the country may request to participate in the Presidential Election wherever they might be and that will be for the National Elections Commission to decide.

We believe that such and many other provisions which have nothing to do with the elections will be implemented fully by the elected government.

As is well known from surveys conducted by national and international academic institutions, the people of South Sudan are not ready for another extension of the R-ARCSS. They want to choose their leaders and it is their inalienable right to do. Certain political circles and civil society groups in South Sudan, backed fully by their international allies, have been using the so called "lack of political space and political will" as a pretext to derail our people from peace implementation. There has been a lot of progress in such areas and that is why many parties have established their offices in many parts of our country. In certain counties where there are difficulties, all the political parties must work together to open them for different parties. That is the meaning of engagement and cooperation among political parties. Our daily work cannot be to write accusation letters to people who cannot help South Sudan. Such accusations are viewed as "collective responsibility" and no party in the Transitional Government of National Unity should claim being sacrosanct. Instead, we are selling our country out with cheap propaganda.

In conclusion, the SPLM remains committed to constructive engagement and cooperation with other political parties as we charter away forward to accomplish the upcoming election, we would like to call up on all the parties signatory to R-ARCSS to remain true and commit to the peaceful conclusion of this peace agreement. Juba, 18th March 2024 – H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday directed the new Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Hon. Awou Daniel Chuang, and the Central Bank Governor, Dr. James Alic Garang, to urgently curb the economic inflation facing the country.

The President was speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of Hon. Awou as the new head of Finance Ministry.

President Kiir expressed confidence in Awou's long track record of experience and dedication to public service, urging him to implement policies that will lift the economic burden on the people.

On his part, Hon.Awou acknowledged the severity of the economic crisis and vowed to take decisive action to curb the hyperinflation and stabilize consumer market prices across the country.

BREAKING: Peter Biar Ajak Arrested in USA for Conspiring to Illegally Export Weapons to South Sudan

Dr. Peter Biar Ajak, Government critic based in the United State and his friend Abraham Chol Keech are arrested for conspiring to purchase and illegally export millions of dollars’ worth of fully automatic rifles, gr***de launchers, Stinger missile systems, hand gr***des, sniper rifles, ammunition, and other export-controlled items from the United States to South Sudan, in violation of the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) and the Export Control Reform Act (ECRA).

The United States’ Office of Public Affairs said in the Press Released on Tuesday as reads:

A federal criminal complaint was unsealed yesterday in the District of Arizona charging Abraham Chol Keech, 44, of Utah, and Peter Biar Ajak, 40, of Maryland, with conspiring to purchase and illegally export millions of dollars’ worth of fully automatic rifles, gr***de launchers, Stinger missile systems, hand gr***des, sniper rifles, ammunition, and other export-controlled items from the United States to South Sudan, in violation of the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) and the Export Control Reform Act (ECRA).

“As alleged, the defendants sought to unlawfully smuggle heavy weapons and ammunition from the United States into South Sudan – a country that is subject to a U.N. arms embargo due to the violence between armed groups, which has killed and displaced thousands,” said Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen of the Justice Department’s National Security Division. “The Department of Justice will not tolerate the illicit export of weapons overseas, and we will hold accountable those who would violate our laws.”

Hot in Juba broke the news of huge explosions coming from Giada shortly after 12:00 am on Sunday after several eyewitnesses reported explosions in Giada.

General L*l calls for calm, saying there shouldn't be panic among the citizens in the city of Juba.

It still not clear what caused the fire in the armoury at the Giada army barracks.

In the names of the father, the son and the holy spirit, Amen. The reasons I am here today, it is something called love, so that everyone love one another with brother and sister.

Dear brothers and sisters, I thank you. My name is Nyiel Awuou Lual. I am purposely here today about school. I have desired education in my heart to study because school is for the vulnerable people. School is my strength for someone like me if he/she studied and is working in the office, he/she is always hopeful like any other person walking on his/her two feet.

There are people I have seen vulnerable one like me. They're working in their respective offices I have witnessed and I also want to be like them. Again, if I study I am hopeful I can lifts up my mother's hands up because I am her first born but also there are small children behind me but the reasons why I want to go to school is to study and to lifts up my mother's hands up.

Nevertheless, I also see that there will be rare chances for men to accept me or eloped me. School is my husband as per now but when I follow my studies then my life will eventually change. I can be happy for you the viewers who are watching me and I can do something to make me strong with strength from my heart.

I would like to also add that my mother has really been so supportive for me as a mother and I see when I follow up my education and I become someone better in the future, then my mother will be able to express smiles because her life has been stressful as I am her first born daughter. She can smile because she will see me like someone with two able legs, then what again, joy will continue to overwhelmed her marvelously. She will just be praying to God to protect me and her life so that we continue to live. That's what I also hope from God.

Dear brothers and sisters, people like us if they're there. They should be helped because someone like him/her is second God. Vulnerable people don't think differently only education and how one can survive in order to see the future. Therefore I appreciate you those who will listen to this.

I am very courageous and the reason I am courageous, I strongly believe when I study then this education will benefit me. Therefore, I will take education with all my heart and I believe God will surely be with me. Again, life is for God just the way I am as Nyiel. I am very bold because when I get something good for me then God will reward that person what he/she has sacrificed for me.

Farther more, I wasn't born like this as disabled child but I fell sick and I thank God because he made me reached up to this present day today. Dear brothers and sisters, you have seen the way I am now. Vulnerable people ask for support because there is no way they can be strong but to depend on. Therefore dear public let us not down looks the vulnerable because they're the second God and first God who created you also. When you see a vulnerable person on the roadside even if he/she didn't asked and you see please help, you will get get your reward ahead.

I am hopeful God will protect and I continue to see things of the world. This sickness has been with me for long time since 2001 when I was born immediately after four months from the date of my birth and people didn't notice it until I became three years old when I started to crow on the ground, until I was able to raise up, walk freely. Then with my right leg I was able to put it down slowly by slowly. In 2014 it started by making me faint and then keeps on pulling the leg. There is an hospital in Juba town called St. Tuna that is where I was able to get some medicine and those medicine have helped to relieve me now and I need to be grateful to God.

So for us the vulnerable or disabled can ask for support. They are also found on the roadside begging for help and if we study then you see school as your second God because it has lift up your life "yajamana" she exclaimed in Juba local Arabic. Such things are what is needed. For me when I complete my education then I believe my life will change in the world. I can never over think again with a lot of stress because it will be cleansed out from my heart. Education is life dear public, let us be supportive to the vulnerable by lifting their hands up that is why I am here today so that you can go and think over this critical points for those who can analyse such situations and I can conclude from here, thank you all.

PRESIDENT KIIR RECEIVES FIBA TROPHY TOUR

Juba, 29 May 2023 – In a historic event,President Kiir received the FIBA world cup trophy as part of the cup tour in countries whose teams have qualified in the 2023 FIBA Basketball Worldcup.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Albino Bol Dhieu said President Kiir had officially received the FIBA Trophy and expressed his joy and gratitude for the great achievements of the national basketball team.

The South Sudan Basketball National Team is the first East African team to qualify for the FIBA World Cup and the top African team to qualify for the FIBA World Cup. The team will face China, Porto Rico and Serbia in the group stage.

The president wished the national team good luck and urged them to take home the trophy as winners of the FIBA World Championship.

President Kiir also directed and invited all South Sudanese NBA players abroad to join the national team for the FIBA World Championship. South Sudan Basketball Federation President Luol Deng thanked President Kiir for the team's continued support, adding that the federation's goal is the development of basketball in South Sudan.

The Cup will be taken for public viewing at Nimra Talata Basketball Court on Tuesday.

The FIBA World Cup is currently visiting South Sudan as part of the Cup tour in the countries whose teams have qualified to participate in the FIBA Basketball World Cup, which will be held from August 25 to September 10, 2023 in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines.

To update you on what our program and what is going on now at Bor airport, we are building a tower and we are building also a bridge and antenna. That antenna I believe is going to be a big achievement to Bor airport because that will be linked with our airspace and all facts we know that our airspace was controlled by Sudan but now we are controlling our airspace as South Sudan. This thing will be helping a lot in terms of information and will be taking a data from Bor receiving from Malakal because that tower will be in Malakal and there will be another tower in Juba and in Wau. These things will be helping us a lot in terms of development and information for all these kind of activities for civil aviation in South Sudan. We are grateful for the effort that has been supported by our government of South Sudan headed by Dr. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit the president of South Sudan, we are thankful for all these great efforts and we are looking to build civil aviation in South Sudan.
