President Kiir Departs To Wau For A Political Rally

Tuesday, 4th of July 2023.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit who is also the SPLM chairman left Juba for Wau this morning to address political rally there.

Thousands of people from the states of Bahr El Ghazal and Abyei special Administrative Area are gathering in Wau to celebrate the sole nomination of President Kiir as SPLM flag bearer for 2023 general elections.

Presidential affairs Minister, Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin said the president's visit to Wau will be follow by similar tour to states of Equatoria and Upper Nile regions to interact with electorates, and deliver to them the message of hope, peace and unity.

Lakes state Governor Arrives At Wau.

Friday, 30th of June 2023

The governor of Lakes state, H.E Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor has this morning arrived in Wau from Rumbek ahead of celebration of the endorsement of H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit by the SPLM leadership as a flag bearer for 2024 general elections.

He was warmly received by the chairperson of the SPLM in Western Bahr El Ghazal state, Hon. Zachariah Joseph Garang who is also the deputy governor of Western Bahr El Ghazal among other senior state government officials.

The governors of the SPLM party in Bahr El Ghazal States are also expected to attend the celebration.

The celebrations for the endorsement of H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit is scheduled to take place next week.

According to organizers, the absence of H.E the president from the event will not prevent the celebrations to go ahead as planned.

38 million SSP Donates For Renovation Of Madhol CDF Secondary School

Thursday, May 4th , 2023

The senior presidential special envoy on special programs Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel has donated 38,000,000 SSP for the renovation of the Madhol Constituency Development Fund secondary school in Aweil East County, Madhol Payam.

Mr. Alexander Kuol Makuach, Secretary of the Fundraising Committee disclosed that the donation comes through the coordination of the Hon. Commissioner of Aweil East, Kiir Yor Lual.
" The commissioner has called a meeting at 10:00 a.m in Aweil town to inform the committee of the funds received from Hon.Bol Mel for the construction of Madhol Secondary School," he said.

Meanwhile, the Treasury Secretary of the committee Mr. Piol Achak confirmed that he has received 38,000,000 SSP from Bol Mel through the commissioner of Aweil East today 4th of May 2023, revealing that the money they collected sums up to SSP 43,541,400 and USD 150 cash in hand.

In a separate development, the committee together with a commissioner discusses a range of issues on the matter of the renovation process; and among the things discussed include reviewing quotations, project modalities, and legal contracts with Jak-Yar Construction Company.
On his part, the commissioner promised to start the construction of the road to the school to easy mobility of construction materials.

Madhol Secondary School is one of the secondary schools in Abiem East under ( Madhol and Malualbaai payams) which was built using the Constituencies Development fund to address the challenges of learning institutions facing the community in the area. However, the school has not addressed the community needs as they expected due to its poor building and lack of learning materials such as blackboards and sitting desks.
It was allegedly told that those who were mandated by then to supervise the Construction of the school misused the funds meant for building a standard school and later rushed to build a school without cement.

Police in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state are holding a man who allegedly killed his elder brother.

According to an eyewitness, Deng Yuot Athoi, a 53- year- old man was killed by his bloody brother Makuac Yuot Athoi on Tuesday in Malith Buol village, Panthou Payam of Aweil South county after they had misunderstanding.

They are said to be under the influence of alcohol when they both came from Panthou marketing day.

NBGS police spokesman, captain Guot G Akol confirmed the incident to the media and said, the police are investigating the circumstances that led to the killing Deng Yuot.

In a separate news, a driver of ACF, an NGO based in Panthou has also this afternoon knock down and killed a person in Gokmachar, Aweil North county.

IT'S OFFICIAL AND VALID: Acting speaker of NBeG state's Youth Union

The acting speaker of the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State's Youth Union has suspended the establishment of the county's youth association activities.
According to the suspension letter seen by The Aweil News -letter, the suspension of counties youth association activities comes as a result of an unconstitutional procedural made by the Secretary of Counties Affairs.

"It's official and valid. I have officially suspended the ongoing youth union activities at the counties till Secretary for counties affairs tabled his strategies plan to be discussed and passed as a resolution by councils." Angelo Ariel, the acting speaker said.

In an effort made by The Aweil News- letter to text the Union spokesperson Mr. Bol Garang Khon to clear the air on the matter of the suspension letter, the official spokesperson of the Youth Union wailed that the document was fake.

"The author of the letter is a self-proclaimed criminal that has been bribed to dethrone the elected Rt. Honorable Speaker," he denounced.
When asked to disclose the names of those who bribed the author, he declined to comment.

On 17th of March 2023, some members of the councilors held what they term an extraordinary meeting which resulted in a resolution for the dissolution of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state's Youth Union council leadership where Hon.Angelo Ariel Was nominated as an acting speaker for Youth Union.

FUEL TANKER CATCHES FIRE IN CUEI-BET, NO ONE WAS HURT hurt.

Tuesday, 11th April 2023.

A fuel tanker belong to African Resources Cooperation (ARC) was on Saturday involved in an accident and caught fire in Cuei-bet county of Lakes state, police and eyewitness said.

The state's acting police spokesman Lieutenant colonel said on Monday that no one was hurt as a result of the fire.

"When the fuel tanker caught fire, the fire Brigade personnel rushed to the scene and immediately rescued the situation. The managed to put out the fire and there was no death or injury sustained during the incident," Moses said.

"What got burned from the fuel tanker was the tanker's head but the rest of the body was rescued by the firefighters and the fuel in the tanker is safe," he added.

He said the fire Brigade authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. "I'm warning citizens in Cuei-bet county to stay far away and avoid smoking ci******es from where the fuel tanker caught fire," he said.

Matur Machiek who is an eyewitness, said. There was no one hurt or property affected by fire. After the fire incident, residents of Cuei-bet managed to put out the fire.

Northern Bahr El Ghazal parliament investigates revenue collection.

Monday, 10th April 2023.

A seven-member committee set up by Northern Bahr El Ghazal State's parliament to investigate the collection of state revenues has concluded its work and presented its findings on Wednesday.

In its reports, the committee formed to investigate the collection of revenues from September 2022 to February 2023, revealed that the state government managed to collect 259,492,159 SSP and 427,032.14 US dollars.

William Wel Deng, who heads the committee said, they found out that the collected amount was 259,492,159 SSP and 427,032.14 US dollars.

"The total amount of US dollars is 427,032.14, secondly, taxation, operationalization license, trade license tax including the general taxation in terms of South Sudanese pound was 259,492,159, and this is the whole amount we got in the two-month investigation on collected revenue in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state", Deng said.

The lawmaker said the state government had already spent the collected amount. He also revealed that the investigation committee found out that there were multiple agencies involved in collecting revenues in the state.

"Also, many non-governmental organizations refused to cooperate with the investigation committee. They didn't reveal the exact number of their employees who pay Personal Income Taxes to the state government", he said.

Another state member of parliament, Garang Alich, said that the state legislative assembly would summon the minister of finance and the commissioner of revenue authority to explain some missing information in the report.

"The committee has presented its reports after spending more than three months and we postpone the sitting until the commissioner of revenue authority and the minister of finance confirm the authenticity of the data obtained because there are unclear issues in this report," he concluded.

The constitution gives the legislative assembly powers to exercise legislative functions, oversee the executive, and authorize the allocation of resources and revenue.

Aweil South Youth body advertise position of youth chairman.

Saturday, 8th of April 2023.

The leadership of Aweil South County youth Association has on Saturday called on the interested applicants to apply for the position of youth chairmanship.

According to the letter posted on social media, the steering committee gave out guidelines, terms and conditions to be meet for those who want the position of chairman in the upcoming first youth convention to be held later this month.

NBGS youth Union appointed steering committees for 5 counties earlier January with mandates to conduct free, fair and credible elections within two months times but recently, the Union's chairman extended the period for another one month to enable the committe complete theirs task.

President Kiir direct Ministry of finance to pay unpaid salaries to public Universities.

Thursday, 6th of April 2023.

President Salva Kiir has on Thursday met with the minister of higher education, Science and technology, Hon. Changson Chang and minister of finance and economic planning, Dier Tong Ngor to deliberate on ways to address the challenges facing public Universities mainly payments of unpaid arrears to academic and non academic staff.

The minister of higher education, Gabriel Changson Chang said the meeting discussed follow up of resolutions made by the cabinet on salaries adjustment for lectures and their payments on time.

On the same note, the minister of finance, Dier Tong Ngor said the had a fruitful meeting and also had a lengthy discussion on the recent issue of unpaid arrears to public Universities.

Hon. Dier stated that, president Kiir has directed the ministry of finance to pay February and March salary arrears and allowances to all public Universities based on the recent salary scale.

An 18-year-old woman from Warrap state is suffering from major physical injuries after her father gouged her eyes in protest over the man she chose to marry.

South Sudan to send another troops to DRC as part of regional forces that fight M23 rebels

Sunday, 2nd of April 2023.

Over 300 SSPDF soldiers will leave Juba for DRC,s eastern volatile region on Monday, April 3rd 2023 where they are expected to join East Africa regional forces currently fighting the rebels M23.

In December, 2022, President Salva Kiir flagged off 750 strong soldiers for a mission in DR Congo. A majority of these soldiers are yet to reach their destination, almost four months down the line.

The "flagged off" of an additional 300 officers is expected to take place at Juba international airport tomorrow morning.
