Ethiopia's Hidden Genocide: Thousands of Civilians Perishing in Neglect
Everybody must understand the gravity of the situation in Afar, Ethiopia. The ongoing conflict between the Somali and Issa ethnic groups has led to a dire humanitarian crisis, which has been largely neglected by humanitarian partners in Ethiopia and globally. The consequences are devastating, with:
 Doses of children dying due to lack of access to healthcare and other essential services
 Doses of women and girls being kidnapped and subjected to forced r**e by Somali militants.
 Doses of cattle, camels, and sheep being looted, leaving many families without a means of livelihood.
 Homes being destroyed, leaving people homeless and displaced.
It is crucial that the international community, governments, and humanitarian organizations take immediate action to address this crisis. The affected communities need urgent assistance with food, shelter, healthcare, and protection from violence. It is essential to provide safe access to humanitarian aid and to work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
The Somali/ Issa and Afar communities have been living together for centuries, and it is heartbreaking to see them suffering due to conflict. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that these communities receive the help they need to rebuild their lives and recover from this crisis.
It's essential that the Ethiopian government and international community take immediate action to intervene and provide basic humanitarian needs to the displaced communities in Afar. The situation is dire, and every minute counts.
The Ethiopian government has a crucial role to play in addressing this crisis. They should:
 Ensure the safety and security of all civilians, particularly women and children, by providing protection from violence and ensuring access to safe areas.
 Provide urgent humanitarian assistance, including food, shelter, and medical care, to those displaced by the conflict.
 Support the reconstruction of homes and infrastructure damaged or destroyed by the conflict.
 Address the root causes of the conflict, including ethnic tensions and political grievances, through peaceful dialogue and reconciliation efforts.

The international community can also play a vital role in addressing this crisis. They should:
 Provide financial support to the Ethiopian government to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need.
 Provide humanitarian assistance directly to affected communities, including food, shelter, and medical care.
 Pressure the Ethiopian government to address human rights abuses and ensure accountability for those responsible for violence against civilians.
 Support peacebuilding efforts and provide mediation support to facilitate dialogue between conflicting parties.
The United Nations agencies, NGOs, and other humanitarian organizations can work together to provide emergency aid and support to those affected by the conflict.
It's essential to remember that every minute counts, and every action taken can make a difference in the lives of those affected by this crisis.
