Episode Six 📖

There was an early morning staff meeting at Jones's office, and every senior staff member was in attendance. Tekena was also there. As the meeting was going on, he realized his phone was about to go off because it only had one per cent of battery power remaining. He was happy that he had his phone charger with him, so he quickly plugged the phone on an extension, which he saw on Jones' table. Tekena was happy that his phone was charging while the meeting was going on.

"By the time we finish the meeting, my phone would have charged 100%." Tekena said to himself as he went back to paying attention to the discussions at the meeting. However, when the meeting ended, Tekena forgot his phone at Jones' table and went back to his own office.

Jones felt lonely at the end of the meeting, so he decided to call Dianna to come and keep him company. When he dialled Dianna's number, he saw that Tekena's phone, which was on his table, also vibrated. He decided to cut the call and send her a WhatsApp message instead.

"I want you to come to my office. Let's have fun." Jones wrote in the WhatsApp message.

"That is dangerous. What if my husband sees me? He also works in the place as you, remember? Why not exercise patience? I will come to your house when you come back from work." Diana replied.

"But I'm missing you. You know I have fallen in love with you, and I always want you by my side. I'm finding it difficult to concentrate without you. Please, I want to see you here in a few minutes." Jones said. When he was done with the WhatsApp conversation with Diana, he checked Tekena's phone screen and saw that all the messages he sent to Dianna were there. He was shocked.

"How did this happen? Does it mean Tekena hacked his wife's WhatsApp? Thanks, goodness his phone is here. He will never see this phone again." Jones took Tekena's phone, searched through it, and made sure he deleted all the messages that came from him. He then switched off the phone an

Episode Five 📖

Tekena drove into the church premises and found everywhere empty. There was no one in the church. He was wondering if he made a mistake or if he had come to the right church.

"Is this not our church?" Tekena asked himself as he checked the sign board again to be sure he was not making a mistake.

"This is our church. I'm in the right place." He said. As he was walking around the church premises, the security man came out to talk with him.

"My wife said there going is to be a night vigil today. I was thinking I would come and join the people to pray, but no one is in the church. Was the night vigil postponed?" Tekena asked the security man.

"There is no night vigil today, sir. I think you are making a mistake. No night vigil was announced for today, so far as I can remember. As you can see, no one is in the church." The security man tells Tekena, who was standing and leaning on his car. He was bemused and felt ashamed at the same time because he never knew himself to make such mistakes.

"Alright! Let me go home. It means I did not get the right information. Good night." Tekena said goodbye to the security man as he left the church and started driving home.

"Where did my wife go to then? If she is not in the church and if there's no night vigil, where did she go to, and where will she pass the night? I'm confused right now." Tekena was talking to himself as he was driving home.

"Did she lie to me? How can she tell me lies that there was a night vigil in the church when there was no such thing? She has never behaved that way, and I'm surprised about her new form of behaviour." Tekena said to himself.

Tekena decided to branch off into a roadside suya joint to buy suya for himself. It has been long since he ate good suya, so it might as well be good if he bought some and eat alone when he gets home.

Episode Four 📖

"You are sleeping over. I mean, you are not going back to your husband's house today. You will go tomorrow morning. I want us to enjoy this night as well. When I finish with you this night, you can go back to your husband's house in the morning." Jones tells Diana who has been sleeping since around 12 noon. The time was 5pm. She was so tired after Jones finished with her earlier in the day.

She didn't know when she slept off in the cozy room, which was highly air-conditioned. In her heart, she knew she loved the place. Jones had ordered food for her online. The food was so tasty that she began to question her own cooking skills after she finished eating it. Everything about the house was superb, no doubt. She also enjoyed the bedroom action because Jones seemed to have used a different type of internet browser when he was logging in. She absolutely loved it, but she was still trying to maintain decorum. Something in her head still reminds her that she is a married woman.

"I can't sleep here. I mean, I have to rush home and cook for my husband. What would he say if he comes back from work and fails to see me? My secret could be exposed. My husband is not aware I'm doing this with you. Do you want to ruin my marriage? Please, Jones, I have to rush home right now because my husband will soon arrive." Diana said as she stood up from the bed, wore her clothes, picked her hand bag, and started going, but Jones' voice made her stop.

"If you leave, just know that your husband has lost his job. I said I want you to sleep over, and you are talking about your husband." Is your husband more important than me? Come back and relax, let us enjoy ourselves." Jones said. Diana has never seen any man who likes the company of a woman more than Jones. Jones is just like a pest.

Dianna was left in total confusion as to how to handle the situation she found herself in. Throughout the day, she was not in her right frame of mind as she kept weighing her options. Essentially, she was in a cul-de-sac.

"If I reject the white man, he is going to sack my husband, and we will go back to that one bedroom apartment. We will lose the house and the two cars we now have in our possession. My husband will become jobless again, putting us at the mercy of hunger and lack of money. This is bad." Dianna said to herself while reflecting on the situation in the living room.

"I was just thinking what I did with the white man was a one-off thing. I did not know he would come back for more like Oliver Twist. What am I going to do right now?" Dianna asked herself. Dianna loves her husband and does not want to lose him. She also doesn't want her husband to lose his job. She was trying to make the right decision, but she soon realized that whichever decision she took would have serious consequences on her and her husband.

"I don't know if I should tell my husband about this. Should I tell him the truth? I think it is better to tell him the truth and be free of the guilt. But if I tell him the truth, he is going to hate me forever. He would feel terrible if he became aware that I slept with Jones to get him a job. No man wants to hear that his wife slept with another man. My husband will kill me if he ever finds out what happened between me and Jones. He may even divorce me if he discovers the truth. Telling the truth is not an option. There must be another way out of this mess." Dianna said in her heart. When Tekena went for the interview at the oil company, it was a total walkover for him because his wife had softened the grounds the previous day. The company manager picked him up for the job, and he was asked to resume work the following day. The interview did not even happen because Tekena did not answer any questions concerning his qualification for what he would be doing when employed.

However, the other candidates for the job were interviewed and dismissed, and they were told the company would get back to them, and that was final.

"You can resume work tomorrow. The receptionist will show you to your office. You have two official cars, a house for accommodation, and N1.5 million salary per month. Please accept my congratulations." The company manager tells Tekena in his office.

Tekena was so excited that when he got home, he knelt down in the living room to sing praises to God. His wife watched him singing, and she laughed in her heart.

"If you know what I did for you to get this job, you would have chased me away by now." Diana said in her heart.

The following week, they moved away from the apartment and relocated to the new one given to them by the oil company. Also, they took delivery of the two official cars. Diana uses one while her husband uses the second car to go to work.

"Everything is working out perfectly for us. This is the life I have always wanted. Poverty is a disease, and I'm glad we have overcome it. We deserve this kind of happiness. We deserve to always have money. I'm so happy that you got this job, my love. You can now properly take care of your family." Diana said to her husband one night when they were in bed. Their relationship had become stronger since he got the job, and money became available.

Diana has suffered a great deal since Tekena. Her husband lost his job six months ago. Though they don't don't have children yet, it has been hell on earth trying to feed themselves. It was as if the company Tekena was working for was waiting for him to get married before they would sack him. It was barely a month after he got married that the company started downsizing, and Tekena was part of those asked to go.

Since he lost his job, it has been one trouble or the other trying to pay their bills. Tekena has applied for a lot of jobs but has failed to get any of them. Diana had been deeply worried by the situation. She can barely afford her cream and bathing soap, not to talk of being able to make her hair the way she used to when she was a single woman. She never knew her husband would become poor so soon after their wedding.

Her husband, Tekena, has been invited to an interview in an oil company where the salary would be N950,000 if he gets the job. Diana has vowed to do everything possible to help her husband get the job.

"My husband must get this particular job. There's nothing that will stop him from getting it. I will personally fight on his behalf to make sure he gets the job." Diana said to herself a day to the date set for the job interview. She has been thinking of how to help since her husband told her of the job opening and the fact that he has been invited for the final interview.

Diana started doing research about the company using her laptop. She researched and found the address of the company and also found the name of the managing director, who was also the head of the panel that would interview her husband in 24 hours' time. She was satisfied with her findings, and then Diana set out to execute her ultimate plan.

Each time she is taken to the clinic, doctors would test her for malaria and typhoid and then treat her with some antibiotics. Many times, she would get better easily and bounce back to her normal self. But in a few weeks, Remi would break down again, and she would be rushed to the hospital. It was becoming a monthly affair, and her parents were spending so much money to pay medical bills.

One day, when she was rushed to the hospital by her father, a doctor recommended a different kind of test. The doctor said it was unusual for a child to be falling sick every now and then. He insisted that it was not normal for Remi to be coming to the hospital every month.

"It is not good for a child to be taking medicine like food. We have to try a different approach to this problem. Let us properly investigate the root of this problem. We will start by testing your child's genotype. Let us know his genotype first, and then we can continue the investigation from there." Doctor Nat said to Luke, Remi's father, who was the one who brought her to the hospital for the third time in one month.

Luke agreed with the test proposed by the doctor because he, too, was becoming tired of running to the hospital every time. Initially, when the problem started, he thought Remi was suffering from childhood diseases. It is now three days since Miriam was arrested by the police and John had refused to go to the police station to bail her. The police had also refused to grant her bail because the landlord said his outstanding rent must be paid before peace would reign. He insists on John coming to the police station for possible detention. John had refused to act despite repeated pleas from relatives who advised him to go to the station and bail his wife and also pay the house rent.

"You have to go and bail her. After all, she is the mother of your children, and there's no way you can deny that. Besides, you and your children also lived in the apartment in question. So technically, you are the one who should pay the house rent." Nneka said to John one night when they had tucked the children to bed and were about to sleep.

"You need to hear what people are saying about you. They are saying you chased away your wife and married another woman. Some are saying I'm the one who snatched you from your wife. I want you to go and bail her out, please, and also pay the rent. People are giving me a bad name because of it. Please honey do me the favour and bail her. This will make me happy." Nneka pleaded with John while lying on his chest.

"These people you said they are gossiping about you, none of them gossiped when I lost my job, and my wife turned me into a house boy. None of them gossipped when I was idle, jobless with no money in my pocket. None of them gossiped when my wife used to beat me up. Nobody gossiped when my wife brought another man into our matrimonial bed. Why have they suddenly started to gossip after I got my job back? Why have they remembered to gossip now that I have money in my pocket? I'm not going to that police station. Let them come to my house and arrest me." John said to Nneka.

Before John lost his job, he often went to a restaurant to eat during launch break at work. That was where he met Nneka, who was the restaurant manager. He had often admired Nneka secretly but was restraining himself because, as at then, he was thinking it would be wrong to be frolicking with her while still married to Miriam. But after Miriam showed him pepper during his moment of distress, he decided to start going close to Nneka.

He already knew that Nneka would like him. On the days that Miriam refused to feed him when he was jobless, John would usually go to the restaurant, and he would be served free food. Their relationship blossomed during those days after John had asked her to be his girlfriend.

John had made everything known to Nneka, including the ugly situation in his marriage. He had secretly informed Nneka of his plans to end the marriage between him and Miriam as soon as he found a new job and could take care of his children without his wife's help.

Nneka herself was desperate to have a man in her life, even if it was someone's husband. She was 35 years old, and she had a thriving business. But she lacked a man in her life. She opened her arms and grabbed John when Miriam was pushing him away.

Miriam felt disgraced that John had the guts to bring another woman into their home. She was acutely unhappy about the development.

"She can go to hell for all I care. What matters is that I'm here now to take care of you. I will put her in her place if she tries nonsense. But what is important to me is for us to start executing our plans. When are we going to start?" Nneka asked John. They were in the bed in the guest room.

"We should start immediately. I have all the money you can think of right now. Let's move on to the plan." John said with happiness. Meanwhile, Mirram could not hold herself, so she tiptoed to the doorstep of the guest room and started eavesdropping. Mirram's heart was pounding very fast, and she hopped it would not detach from her chest.

It was not long before John and Nneka started preparing to browse. From her experience of browsing, Mirram knows when a man has reached that point of no return. She knew that it wouldn't be long before John would log in.

"I have come here to spoil you. I know it has been long since you browsed any website. I want you to browse my own, I'm sure you will enjoy the internet speed. Trust me, my website does not have a virus. I hope your system is bringing a network?" Nneka asked with laughter. John, too, was laughing. It was obvious that the two of them were very happy with each other.

"From the very moment I saw you, my system started bringing network. I want to log in immediately. I'm happy you are also interested in browsing the internet with me." John said happily.

Mirram was so distressed because of the things she was hearing. She was sad and she was feeling terrible. Tears were nearly dropping from her eyes.

"So, John has the mind to bring a woman into this house? What gave him the impetus? He even wants to browse her website right inside our matrimonial home. Shameless man who has no respect for his marriage. But I will deal with the two you today." Mirram said angrily. Her eyes were teary.

By that time, Nneka and John were making interesting sounds from the guest room, and Miriam knew they had entered another gear. She was sad, knowing that her husband was touching another woman right in their room.

"I shall be back." Miriam said as she walked away from the doorstep of the guest house. Miriam entered the kitchen and boiled hot water using a kettle. She poured the water into a wash-hand basin and returned to the guest room.

"When you come, the two of you will have me to contend with. I will show you that I'm the woman of this house. I will show you that it is me who is called the iron lady." Miriam said in her heart. John and Nneka had finished, and we're just sleeping.

They slept for a long time before they started coming out of the room. Immediately, John and Nneka stepped out, and Miriam threw the water on the two of them.
