Thank you Tombo Media Engagement Blog for sharing this story and help saving a dream.

We wish to be followed by you, thank you!

Dear General Public,

I'm Alie Kalokoh, a proud Sierra Leonean. I'm currently a student at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Freetown, Sierra Leone, which is renowned as one of the best universities in our country. I chose this university to pursue my academic dreams.

Upon receiving my WASSCE results, I was thrilled to meet the university requirements. I approached my supportive sponsor, who encouraged me and promised to sponsor my education. Fueled by his support, I applied to the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Sierra Leone campus.

After a couple of days, I received my acceptance letter from the university. With joy, I began my classes. My sponsor, who had initially pledged to cover my fees, amounted to 12,750 twelve million seven hundred and fifty old leones. Tragically, just two days later, he passed away, leaving me in a state of sorrow and uncertainty. Despite this, I managed to return to my studies after attending funeral arrangements.

The university then posted a list of fully paid and registered students eligible for the first-semester examination. This news left me in tears, almost leading me to consider giving up. However, my unwavering determination pushed me to persevere. I pushed forward, consistently, and with the help of God, I was able to be rescued by a few Sierra Leoneas who came together and help pay my fees.

Today, after completing the entire academic year, I am proud to say, I am one of the best students in my department and class with a high cumulative GPA of 3.84, 4 A's, and 2 B's.

Yet, the new academic year has resumed and the financial obligation of unpaid university fees still hangs over me. This time around it is 15 million 300. Humbly, I request assistance from anyone who may have connections to philanthropists or public figures or yourself to humbly help.

I want to keep my standard as the best student in my class and prowess more; but, the weight of unpaid fees constantly preys on my mind. I truly need support.

Some months ago, I lost my father, compounding my financial difficulties. I maintain my faith that my dreams will come to fruition. Currently, I'm studying for a Bachelor of Arts [Hons] in Broadcasting and Journalism. Financially stranded, I seek support to achieve my academic aspirations. Thank you, and may you be blessed.

Dear valued followers and reader,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. Today, we [Sierra Reporters] come to you with a heartfelt request for your timely intervention to help a bright and talented student who is facing immense challenges in completing his studies at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

As an online media agency, we have always strived to support and advocate for individuals who are passionate about pursuing their dreams in the field of broadcasting and journalism. It is with great concern that we share the story of this exceptional student who has found himself in a difficult situation that could potentially force him to abandon his education.

Our team has thoroughly assessed the circumstances surrounding this student predicament, and we have confirmed the legitimacy of his struggles with the university itself and lecturers. It is evident that without external assistance, this student is at a high risk of becoming a dropout, which would be an unfortunate loss for both them and the industry he is aspiring to contribute to.

We understand that financial constraints can often hinder promising students from reaching their full potential. However, it is important to note that our aim is not to request physical cash donations directly. Instead, we kindly ask for your support by contributing through the university’s designated account number or by reaching out to one of our dedicated company workers on +23274033611 h to help guide you through the process or more documents clarification.

By channeling your assistance through these official channels, we ensure transparency and accountability in the process. This will allow us to effectively manage and allocate the funds towards the student tuition fees, ensuring that he can continue his education without further obstacles.

We firmly believe in the power of collective action and the impact it can have on transforming lives. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a significant difference in this student journey towards achieving his educational goals. Together, we can empower him to become future leader in the broadcasting and journalism industry.

We kindly request you to consider extending your support to this deserving student. Your generosity will not only change his life but also serve as a testament to the compassion and solidarity that our community embodies.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for considering our request. We are immensely grateful for your continued support in making a positive difference in the lives of aspiring individual.

With heartfelt regards,

SECOND NATIONAL ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT JULIUS MAADA BIO REGARDING THE NOVEMBER 26, 2023, FAILED ATTEMPTED COUP D'ÉTAT
- SATURDAY 2 DECEMBER 2023.

1. Fellow Citizens and Residents of this great Nation, I greet you in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

2. Five days ago, on Sunday 26th November, at around 3:00 am, the gunshots heard from the Wilberforce Military Barracks in the Western Area of Freetown was a ploy to unleash anarchy on our capital, Freetown, by a group of ruthless hooligans.

3. The armoury at the Wilberforce Military Barracks had been violently breached by unknown assailants. After intense gunfight, our loyal forces eventually repelled them.

4. The unlawful assailants proceeded to diverse locations, mainly in Freetown, in the course of the day, causing wanton destruction of lives and property.

5. We sadly mourn the tragic loss of our gallant officers who paid the ultimate price in defence of our peace, security, and democracy.

6. Our hearts and our prayers go out to the bereaved families during these trying times, and we pray that the souls of the dearly departed rest in eternal peace.

7. We wish our wounded comrades in the hospital a speedy recovery. Thank you for your bravery in defense of our democracy.

8. Fellow Citizens, investigations conducted so far by our Security and Intelligence Community strongly indicate that the November 26 infraction was clearly and unambiguously an attempted coup d’état.

9. Their action was premeditated and coordinated and was executed to unseat the democratically elected Government by violent and unlawful means, topple constitutional order, and reverse our decades of investment in peace and democracy.

10. Some arrests have since been made, and full investigations have been launched. The Sierra Leone Police released a list of wanted persons on November 28th. I strongly encourage citizens and non-citizens to provide useful information that would lead to the arrest of fugitives and aid the investigations.

11. Fellow Citizens, this attempted coup is taking place exactly five months after we went to the polls and exercised our franchise in an election that has been widely acclaimed as the most peaceful in our country’s post-conflict electoral history.

12. To seek to overturn the people’s will by unlawful means is the gravest and most unpardonable of sins. TO THOSE WHO SOUGHT TO DISRUPT OUR DEMOCRACY, LET ME BE CLEAR – YOU WILL NOT SUCCEED.

13. Sierra Leone, the Land of Unity, Freedom, and Justice, is a multi-party democracy underpinned by values enshrined in our 1991 Constitution.

14. We are a constitutional democracy with an avowed commitment to honour our laws above individuals, political parties and religion.
15. As a nation, we have made tremendous progress since the end of the gruesome ten-year civil war 21 years ago, when we lost over 50,000 precious lives.

16. As a nation, we have suffered from the scourges of the Ebola Virus in 2014/2015 and, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic. We weathered the horrendous mudslide of 2017 that led to heavy loss of life and property.

17. One thing remains constant through all these grave challenges since our nation gained its independence ─ the RESILIENCE and DETERMINATION of our people — the hope of a brighter future. A future of peace, justice, security and dignity for all.

18. Fellow Citizens, in June 2023, you again chose me, Julius Maada Bio, and the Sierra Leone People’s Party to lead our country to continue to build upon the gains we have made in my previous mandate and to push ahead unrelentingly with the bold and transformative socio-economic programs we have rolled out for the next five years, with FEED SALONE as the flagship.

19. I remain grateful and humble to serve you as President and reiterate my pledge to improve the quality of lives of our citizens amidst unprecedented global economic times.

20. Fellow Citizens, nations that have made great advances have been able to do so because they chose certain fundamental pathways to development and have consistently followed these paradigms.

21. Over two decades ago, this nation chose peace and multi-party democracy as our strongest levers for progress and development, and I urge us to stick to these pursuits. Our commitment to democracy, justice, and the well-being and safety of our citizens remain unwavering.

22. Good Citizens of Sierra Leone, as a nation deeply rooted in the rule of law, let me assure you that no matter the provocation, our response to the events of November 26 will be measured and determined along ONLY ONE parameter: THE RULE OF LAW, Nothing More, Nothing Less.

23. The attempted coup will, therefore, be dealt with by my Government purely as a law-and-order issue, not a political, tribal or religious matter.

24. Therefore, let all be rest assured that we will follow the evidence wherever it leads us, and all those found culpable, no matter their status, shall be held fully to account for their actions within the confines of the law whilst at the same time also recognising the wider demands of justice and freedom.

25. I thank leaders all over the world and our bilateral and multilateral partners (including ECOWAS, the African Union, the Commonwealth, the European Union and the United States of America, the United Kingdom) for standing by us at this challenging moment.
26. ABOVE ALL, I THANK YOU, THE CITIZENS OF OUR GREAT NATION.

27. As your President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, I repeat my call for us all to come together and embrace the values of peace, stability and democracy and reject every attempt to divide us through violence and unconstitutional means.

28. I CALL ON ALL CITIZENS TO SAY NO TO UNCONSTITUTIONAL CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT; NO TO ANY ATTACK ON OUR PEACE, SECURITY, AND DEMOCRACY; AND NO TO ANY PERSON OR GROUP WHO CHOOSES TO PUT THEIR PERSONAL INTEREST ABOVE OUR COLLECTIVE NATIONAL INTERESTS.

29. We have shown the world that we are a resilient people. We have demonstrated that we stand for peace and democracy at all times.

30. As One Nation and One People, we shall remain firmly united and stand invincible, guided solely by the Rule of Law.

31. MAY GOD BLESS AND PROTECT THE GREAT PEOPLE OF SIERRA LEONE AND OUR FRIENDS AND PARTNERS LIVING IN SIERRA LEONE.
32. LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE

Condemnation of State Security Breaches And The Killing Of My Security Guard In Freetown

With great disappointment, I have followed the sickening violent events unfolding in our capital Freetown since the early hours of this morning. I strongly condemn the grave breaches of state security. I am deeply concerned that once again our beloved nation could be subjected to such Insecurity.

I also strongly condemn the killing, right inside of my Goderich residence in Freetown, of Corporal Eddie Conteh, a dedicated military guard assigned to me by the state. Corporal Eddie Conteh was reportedly shot at point blank range. (May his soul rest in peacel) While my thoughts and prayers are with his family, I note that Warrant Officer John Swarray, another state security assigned to me, was whisked away from my residence to an unknown location. I look forward to his safe return.

Any actions, events and pronouncements that threaten to undermine the political and social stability of the state should have no place in a democracy.

The path to peace, stability and national cohesion lies in our commitment to democratic values.

While it is imperative to restore law and order, l urge for calm and for all stakeholders to prioritize the wellbeing and stability of our nation.

God bless the Republic of Sierra Leone! 🇸🇱

Former President of Sierra Leone

‼️‼️Quick Update‼️‼️

The security forces have pushed back the assailants to the outskirts of the city - they are currently being engaged in the Jui area. Most of the city is calm and under control of the state security forces.
Major detention centers including the Pademba Road Prisons were attacked earlier today and in the interest of protecting civilian lives (including of prisoners), the security forces were forced to make a tactical retreat. The prisons were thus overran.
Some prisoners were abducted by the assailants while many others were released. Please note that SLBC is not on fire and not under siege.
The DG of SLBC is doing his work and has not been arrested. The security forces are making progress in the operation to defeat and apprehend those responsible for today's attacks.
The curfew remains in effect. Stay indoors.
The government remains in control and on top of the situation.

Message From President Bio

Fellow Sierra Leoneans,

I bring you greetings from the Presidential Lodge in Freetown.

In the early hours of this morning, there was a breach of security at the Military Barracks at Wilberforce in Freetown, as some unidentified individuals attacked the military armoury.

However, they were repelled by our gallant Security Forces and calm has been restored.

As the combined team of our Security Forces continue to root out the remnant of the fleeing renegades, a nationwide curfew has been declared and citizens are encouraged to stay indoors.

The PEACE of our beloved NATION is PRICELESS and we shall continue to protect the peace and security of Sierra Leone against the forces that wish to truncate our much-cherished stability.

We remain resolute in our determination to protect democracy in Sierra Leone and I urge all Sierra Leoneans to unite towards this collective responsibility.

Long Live The Republic of Sierra Leone. 🇸🇱
