Urgent Appeal for Government Assistance in Rebuilding Collapsed Bridge in Sambaia Chiefdom
The Put Sambaia Chiefdom First Community-Base Civil Society Organization, along with Chiefdom Youth Chairman Mr Yirah Turay, is calling on the Government of Dr Bio through SLRSA to come to the aid of the people of Sambaia Chiefdom in the Tonkolili District. This urgent appeal comes as the bridge connecting Kamaria and Heremakonor has collapsed, making it impossible to access the Chiefdom headquarters Town, Bendugu.
The collapsing of this bridge has caused great confusion among the people, especially the business community, who rely on it for transporting goods and services. In response to this crisis, the Leone Rock Metal Group Company has dispatched a team to Sambaia Chiefdom to assess the situation. The people of Sambaia Chiefdom have long advocated for the construction of the Bendugu to Magburaka Road through Bumbuna and Mabonto, and now with colonial bridges collapsing, there is a serious risk to vehicular movement and pedestrians.
The PSCF-CSO is urging the Paramount Chief of Sambaia Chiefdom to prioritize projects for the construction of bridges using Community Development funds from the 1% being paid by the Leone Rock Metal Group Company. It is essential to invest in sustainable projects like bridges to ensure the safety of business people and the Chiefdom as a whole.
In light of these urgent circumstances, we implore the Government to take immediate action and provide assistance in rebuilding the collapsed bridge in Sambaia Chiefdom. Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

Flooding in NORENAH COMMUNITY - Bumbuna
Urgent Call for Action to Address Flooding in NORENAH Community, Bumbuna, Tonkolili District.
As the Put Sambaia Chiefdom First Community-Based Civil Society Organization, we are deeply concerned about the safety of the people of Bumbuna, specifically those residing in the NORENAH Community, Bumbuna Section Dansogoia Chiefdom along the River Rokel. The heavy rainfall experienced today, the 15th of September 2024, since 6:00 hours, has raised serious concerns about potential flooding in the area.
We urgently call on the government to dispatch a well-trained disaster management team to Bumbuna to assess the situation and provide necessary support. In addition, we urge the residents of the NORENAH Community to evacuate and seek refuge for their safety as a precautionary measure.
The Bumbuna area is known to be prone to disasters, particularly due to the Bumbuna hydro project that has altered the flow of the River Rokel. There is a real risk of the river banks collapsing or overflowing during periods of heavy rainfall, highlighting the importance of addressing climate change and protecting our environment.
The stakeholders of Dansogoia Chiefdom, especially PC Alimamy Bockarie Yellan Koroma III, must prioritize this issue and convene a meeting to discuss the flooding in the NORENAH Community. Failure to address this issue promptly may lead to a catastrophic event that could result in the destruction of homes and potential loss of lives.
In conclusion, we must act swiftly and decisively to address the flooding in the NORENAH Community and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents in the Bumbuna area.

Magbalgbay hill - Leading to Tonkolili Mines Site
The Put Sambaia Chiefdom First Community-Based Civil Society Organization is deeply concerned about the hazardous road conditions at the Magbalgbay hills leading to the mines. We urgently call on Leone Rock Metal Group Limited to prioritize the safety of their employees by seeking an alternative route to the mine site. It is crucial that Leone Rock and all its subcontractors take proactive measures to ensure the well-being of all workers. With heavy rainfall persisting, we cannot afford to overlook the risks of potential catastrophic accidents.
Therefore, we appeal to the company to temporarily divert their vehicles along the railway from Ferengbeia or Wondugu to the mines until the weather conditions improve. Alternatively, we recommend that their workers be stationed in Songoni, Morie, Kegbema, or Kemedugu to avoid the dangerous Magbalgbay hills route. Additionally, we suggest that a risk allowance be provided to workers residing in Bumbuna to mitigate any potential dangers they may face.
The Magbalgbay hill is in a perilous state, and past incidents have tragically resulted in the loss of lives among our fellow community members. We cannot afford to repeat these mistakes. Leone Rock Metal Group Company heavily relies on this road for their operations, with their equipment frequently traveling to the mine site.
We call upon our leaders to relay this urgent message to the appropriate authorities within the company. It is our collective responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all workers, and action must be taken immediately to prevent any further loss of life or damage to company property.
