Orange Salone Unveils Bike Riders Union Office & Orange Money Service

Orange Sierra Leone, the biggest mobile network in the country has officially opened the newly constructed National Office of Sierra Leone Bike Riders Union and launched the pay with Orange Money Service. The event was held on Thursday 3rd August, 2023 at Jenner Wright Road, Race Course Community, Up Gun in Freetown.
The company through a partnership agreement supported the expansion of the Bike Riders Union Office to a befitting one. The Bike Riders nationwide will start utilizing ‘Pay Me with Orange Money’ for services like transportation they are rendering to the public.
The official opening and launching climaxed with raffle draw wherein market women and bike riders that will enable them won umbrellas and helmets respectively. Bike Riders Union National President, Umaru Teli Bah underscored the importance of the partnership with Orange Sierra Leone saying that the company came at the right time to help them have a befitting office.
He called on colleague riders to take advantage of the partnership with orange for mutual growth and development of the two organizations. Regional Chairmen of all four regions of Bike Riders expressed gratitude to orange for making their dream come to reality with the edifice office and appealed for replicate of such office in the provinces. The Chief Executive Officer, Orange Sierra Leone, Sekou Amadu Bah thanked the Bike Riders Union Executive and Orange Team for the collaboration to make this a reality.
He said that the construction of the office is just the beginning of the much potential to support the union through the partnership. The CEO further urged his team and the union executive to think about another sustainable project and also promised to replicate such facility in the regions.
Head of Partnership and Strategic, Orange Money, Abibatu Baxter said that the pay me with orange money service will ensure cashless transaction and address the challenge of change issue between the rider and the passenger. She further that the bike riders would also utilized the service to pay for licenses, service bike, and buy spare parts and among other transactions.
Orange Sierra Leone Deputy Director of Commercial, Bolor T. Sesay underscored the important of the partnership with the union pointing out that bike riders will be used as point of sales to ensure that orange products and services reach people in remote communities across Sierra Leone.

Outgoing Internal Affairs Minister hands over

David Panda-Noah the outgoing Minister of Internal Affairs has bid a fare well to staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at its head office in Freetown. The outgoing Minister welcomed and handed over the onus of ministry Major-General (Rtd) David T. O Taluva, the incoming Minister. According to him (outgoing minister), the cordial relationship between his office and the Sierra Leone Police has been so cordial and over the past five years they had been visited several police stations including the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters in Freetown to monitors the operations of the Sierra Leone Police.
Mr. Panda-Noah said under his tenure as Minister of Internal Affairs there were a lot of recruitment that taking place in the securities sectors the Sierra Leone Arm Forces, the Sierra Leone Police and the Sierra Leone Correctional Services.
He also said his administration has built and renovated several securities structures across the country and it was very tough time for him working under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He thanked all those Securities institutions including staff at the Ministry for making him delivered well during his tenure of office. Colonel (Rtd) Binneh K. Conteh Commissioner for the Sierra Leone Commission on Small Arms and Ammunition explained that at the first day he meet with the outgoing Minister there he realized that indeed Panda is a great man and a well experienced man in terms of security issues. Mr. Conteh also said that the den Minister had always ready and opens all his doors for dialogue, discuss and prefers solution when issues of Securities threats arise.
Major-General (Rtd) David T,O Taluva incoming Minister of Internal Affairs said that Ministerial position is not an employment but an appointment and one of his weaknesses is to mix politics and professionalism.
He warned that, time for politics has elapsed, and now it is time to deliver. He further stated that there is no nation in the World that does not grapple with internal securities and the responsibilities of the Ministry are to provide security and peaceful environment for the people.
Major-General Taluva advised all heads of institutions working under his institution to delivered as well as producing results. He assured that in three weeks’ time he will call all the 9 institutions been supervise by his ministry to do a presentation and prefer solutions and start to develop concept.
He noted that the Sierra Leone Police’s image is not good to the public but he will make sure that he brings civilians close to the police as well as having a good working relationship. He noted: “My main aim is to make every institution working under my supervision look better and I thank every one of you as I hope to work with you.”
AIG Mustapha Kamara a representative from the Sierra Leone Police told the conference that Mr. Panda-Noah had been working tirelessly with the Sierra Leone Police. According to him the Sierra Leone Police has been a very difficult organization that the public do not like because all over in the world no one want to regulated and by forcing people to comply with the laws there the problems lies. Mr. Kamara said that the outgoing Minister is a man of perfect humanity and calling on the incoming Minister to portray the same to the Management of the Sierra Leone Police.

The Chief Executive Officer /Founder of Shout Climate Change Africa (SCCA) Finnex John Asibor, recognizes Orange Sierra Leone as one of the corporate institutions that has made conscious efforts to protect the environment and taking sustainable efforts to reduce it carbon footprints to combat the negative effect of climate change.
Moreover, Finnex John Asibor commented on EHS Week recently held by Orange Sierra Leone in which the company highlighted various actions it has embarked on towards taking sustainable strides towards preserving the environment including solarization of 70% of its sites and the planting of 3000 trees at Mud Slide community at Mortomeh.

CSO Blasts "Labelleh"& unpatriotic CSOs in Sierra Leone

The Chief Executive Director (CEO) of Citizen Rights Network Sierra Leone Ibrahim Bai Koroma in an exclusive interview has described some Civil Society groups that are forcing themselves to be part in the government architecture rather than working for the interest of the country as unpatriotic.
According to him, the mandate of Civil Society is to serve as watch dogs of society and to check mate the powers of the government and not to advocate for position or be part of governance as they are doing now to the present president asking for portfolios now positions.
Mr. Koroma warned all unpatriotic Civil Societies to stay away from politics and focus on their work instead of involving on such act.
The CEO stated that the act of his colleagues is unacceptable and disgraceful to see Civil Society representatives roaming about for position rather than doing what they are expected to do.
He said the performance of others has left the public with no option but to label them as "evil Society” Instead of Civil society.
Mr. Koroma further disclosed that because of those unpatriotic Civil Society groups, the trust Sierra Leoneans have for CSOs has now been eroded to the lowest ebb.
He said now people are looking CSOs with disdain and even gave reasons for their international donor partners who might find it difficult to fund them.
He urges other Civil Society groups that believe in the vision of Civil Society not to follow the bad Ones.
The Executive Director stressed on issues that are affecting the country and the ordinary man that should have been championed by CSOs, but failed to do so instead they embark on requesting for appointment.
He warned all Civil Society to stay away from active politics, but if they choose to be, they should quit the Civil Society arena and become politicians.

The Star prize winner of the 2nd draw of the ECOBANK Save & Win Promotion, Isatu Jalloh, has said that she will do business with the motorbike and that the money she will be making from the motorbike will in turn be invested in the bank, thus calling the bank the best Bank in Sierra Leone.
Speaking to journalists at the banks headquarters on Lightfootboston Street in Freetown, Madam Isatu Jalloh thanked the bank for the draw, adding that when she received the call from Ecobank, she was busy doing her business, admitting that at first she doubted whether it was a true win, even though she was told it was from the bank.
It was on Friday evening when I received a call from ECOBANK. I was doing my business at Lumley, because of 419ers these days, I didnt believe. My sister told me that you have won a bike why are you not happy. I told her until I see and receive the bike. But I was in constant touch with the bank. I was told to come on Thursday. Today, I have received the bike. I want to express thanks to them. I want to also express thanks to the management of the bank, she said.
She added that she has been banking with ECOBANK for two years, and have good banking experience with them thus promising that she will bring more customers to the bank and would have to encouraged her fellow business women to bank with the Pan African Bank for a good banking experience.
I was looking forward to such a gift. This motorbike is a big blessing to me. I will not sell this motorbike. I will use it as business to make more money, Madam Jalloh underscored.

Orange-SL Commences Yearly Athletics Sports Meeting for Employees

Orange Sierra Leone, one of the leading telecommunication companies in the country on Saturday 20 May 2023 organized its inaugural athletic Sports Day for their employees.
It's a way of recognizing the significance of their employees’ motivation in a well-functioning management system.
The company took a proactive step in fostering the team spirit and reinforcing its commitment to employee welfare.
Elizabeth Walker, the Operational Marketing Manager and President of Connect (Welfare Team) of Orange SL, expressed her excitement at the company's first venture into organizing an athletic sports event.

Orange Money SL has on Thursday 8th June 2023 launched a new product called Orange Money Card as they continue to lead in the financial inclusion platform.
A ground breaking achievement in digital finance has been reached following the launch of a new orange Money card for customers and non-customers of Orange Money.
The event was held at Orange Sierra Leone (OSL) headquarters in Freetown. Smart phone and non-smart phone users can use the new orange money card for mobile money transactions.
One can walk into any orange Money shop and purchase the card at NLe 10 by producing an identity card. Orange Money customers and non-customers can also enjoy the service once they are linked to their phone numbers.
In a 30-minute demonstration via power point, Assistant Marketing and Project Manager, Naomi Kabia explained the steps to gain registration with the new card.
According to her, one can first scan, enter the number, get a summary of the details of the person making the request and get the password.
Head of strategy and Marketing, Abibatu Baxter sees the new orange Money card as the achievement of a new milestone in the world of digital finance noting that province of freedom has been created.
"We always set the pace in the financial inclusion drive," says the Marketing strategist. Abibatu went on to state that with the new card mobile money transactions had been made simple, and customers freed from worries of sending money to wrong numbers.
"If you send someone to cash money and the person forgets the number, you can easily use the Orange Money card," she emphasised adding that the new card is simple and stress-free when using it.

On Friday 19th May 2023, nine lucky customers have won prizes in the second “Draw Save and Win Promotion” launched last year by Eco-Bbank Sierra Leone Limited as a way of giving back to their customers nationwide.

Strong Girls, United Women Unveil New Office

The Strong Girls, United Women organization on Saturday 6th May, 2023 opened a new office at 245 Bai Bureh Road, Wellington in Freetown.
Strong Girls, United Women is geared towards supporting women and girls in Sierra Leone, empowering women in providing agricultural seeds as well as ensuring that women get educational opportunities, more especially for the girl child. Skills training and knowledge in business and empowerment of young ladies is part of their work. This will enable them to contribute to the development of themselves and their communities as a whole.

Strong Girls, United Women (SGUW) is an organization that is not denominational and non-profit. The rationale behind the organization’s formation is geared towards empowering women and girls who have been cut-off from society (mostly sexual or physical offences).
Also as part of its operations and activities, the organization is also involved in community-driven activities like providing sexual and reproductive health education, and skills training programs to help people kick-start their life.
Mr. Tunday Smith, a gender expert in Sierra Leone said that the organization has been doing extremely well but should find ways for the office to be sustained.
He encouraged children who attended the program to always focus on their education and work for their future. He also advised parents to always encourage their children to focus on their education. He also pledged to donate the sum of 100 United States Dollars at the ending of this month.

Orange SL Tackles Climate Change & Environmental Safety

As part of its corporate social responsibility, Orangs Sierra Leone as one of the leading mobile telecommunication companies in Sierra Leone has been working diligently supporting the government of Sierra Leone by tackling climate change and safety environment.
The Company has a collective responsibility on tackling climate change and providing environmental protection and sensitizing the public on the need to reduce Sierra Leone's carbon emissions.

As part of its annual Environment Health and Safety Week Celebrations, Orange SL on Monday 2nd May 2023, commenced a weeklong activity to mark this year’s EHS Week on the Theme: “Taking Sustainable Steps to Reduce our Carbon Footprint”.
The EHS week kicked off with a Morning Coffee session for employees to elaborate the goal of the EHS week and our collective responsibility on environmental protection and the need to reduce our carbon emissions.
In his video message to all staff, during the EHS Morning Coffee session, CEO Sekou Amadu Bah said Orange SL is committed towards maintaining a culture that values and prioritize environmental health and safety issues. He furthered that climate change is a critical issue that affects everyone, which is why Orange SL being a responsible corporate citizen recognizes the need to take sustainable action by reducing our carbon footprint, hence the need to increase the company’s renewable energy ratio target by optimizing its operations and investing in renewable energy consumption.

CEO Sekou Amadu Bah said, Orange’s commitment towards reducing our carbon emissions is in alignment with the Group’s strategy to lead the future which prioritizes environmental responsibility with the aim of protecting and preserving our environment for future generation.
He further noted that “as individuals and as a company, we have a responsibility to protect the environment. Orange Sierra Leone, the leading Tele-Communications company in the country in partnership with Youth Alliance and Initiative for Innovation and Environmental Development, has on Friday 5th May 2023 ended the Environment, Health and Safety Week by planting 3000 trees where the Mudslide occurred at Mortomeh Community in Regent

This is geared towards reducing flooding risk in order to raise awareness on environmental safety and protection for Mortomeh and Freetown as a whole.

The loss of these trees canopy has directly affected catchment areas for water reserves thereby exacerbating the risks of landslides, flooding, and coastal erosion as well as the loss of trees and vegetation cover also threatens biodiversity.

Given the overview of the week event, the Public Relations Officer OSL, Mabel Mason, intimated that the week was set aside as part of their commitment towards preserving and ensuring that they protect the environment from climate change. She continued that the week was also set aside to raise the awareness among their staff members, stakeholders and the county as a whole about the impact of damaging the environment and how that can drastically affect their operations as humans.

She highlighted that, at the start of the week, they were taken through by an Environmental Protection Agency Representative on environmental health and safety and a host of other engagements throughout the week.

Orange SL the leading telecommunication company in Sierra Leone has commenced it annual Environment Health and safety week celebration with the theme: Taking sustainable steps to reduce our carbon footprint.
This day is set aside to help raise awareness on environmental safety and protection.

The Chief Executive Officer of Orange SL, Sekou Amadou Bah, in his statement said it is a remarkable day for the company, as they set aside a week dedicated towards reinforcing their commitment on environmental responsibility as a company.
He furthered that during the week they would engage in several activities such as the planting of 3,000 trees at the mudslide site at Motema, conduct a tour of the solar facility installed at their sites along with the Environment Protection Agency, observe EHS day and stage a departmental and employee plant competition.
He also stated how they launched this year's EHS week with theme: "Taking Sustainable steps to reduce our carbon footprint" noting that the theme is in line with the orange group target of achieving zero carbon emission by 2040.

ICT plays a pivotal role in a world that is becoming more digitalized each day and therefore it is important and imperative that digital skills are imparted on young women and girls at an early age.
Statements made by various partners emphasizing on the importance of empowering young women and girls with digital skills which will be essential in navigating different aspects of life.
For better understanding and empowerment, the young women and girls who were in attendance from various Schools, Communites & Organisations were engaged in interactive workshop sessions on Digital Literacy, Introduction to Coding, Mobile Journalism and Tech for inclusion.
The Partners affirmed that they would continue to foster partnerships to ensure that young women and girls are not only equipped with digital skills and tools, but also expose them to equal opportunities in a safe space in the outer world.
The young women and girls were also challenged to always seize the opportunities whenever they arises in life, without fear of inferiority, intimidation or discrimination as the case may be.
