Six migrants have died in the Meditteranean sea, and others are missing after their boat sank off the coast of Algeria on Monday. Six survivors have been rescued. The search is still ongoing for an unspecified number of missing people. The boat's occupants originated from various sub-Saharan African countries. They were attempting to reach Europe. Senegal's government has signed a peace agreement with separatist rebels from the southern Casamance region. Senegal President Macky Sall announced the agreement, which was signed Thursday in Guinea Bissau. The agreement aims to end more than 40 years of conflict in the Casamance region in the south of Senegal. Hundreds of casualties have been recorded in this conflict. In March, the army launched a vast operation against the rebels which led to the destruction of several bases. Do you believe the agreement can bring peace at last?

Senegal's foreign ministry has summoned the Canadian embassy's charge d'affaires after it said one of its diplomats in Ottawa was hospitalised following "rare police violence". The diplomat was taken to hospital by ambulance after being handcuffed and "savagely beaten" in her home in a "racist" incident, the ministry said in a statement issued Thursday. The ministry says it has served a "note of protest" to the Canadian authorities, demanding an investigation. "The government of the Republic of Senegal reserves the right to take any other appropriate action and urges the Canadian authorities to ensure that such cases do not recur," the statement said.

Africa recorded a ten-year growth in its healthy life expectancy from 2000 to 2019, the World Health Organization Africa office said, exceeding the global average and progress seen in any other region over the same period. The WHO attributed it to better essential health services, improvement in health service coverage, in productive and maternal health and in health services to tackle infectious diseases. Despite the progress made, "we certainly have a lot to do and we seem to be ready to move together,'' the WHO Africa official said, warning that life expectancy in the African region is still below the global average of 64 years. Liberia 🇱🇷 is set to host the 2022 WAFU Zone 'A' U15 Nations Cup in Monrovia.

Six nations, including Sierra Leone 🇸🇱, Liberia 🇱🇷, Cape Verde 🇨🇻, Senegal 🇸🇳, and Mali 🇲🇱 will compete in the tournament slated for August 18th to 31st.

The last edition was held in Guinea 🇬🇳. Senegal 🇸🇳 and Guinea 🇬🇳 emerged as champions of Group 1 and Group 2 respectively.

This year's edition will be played in a round robin format with one team emerging as champions.

Conference Room,Ministry of Energy, Wednesday August 3, 2022--------A delegation from Afro Group headed by its Vice President, Ing. Yousri Saadat,has called on Sierra Leone's Energy Minister, Alhaji Kanja Sesay,to brief him on plans by the Egypt-based
company to massively invests in Sierra Leone's solar energy space.

Afro Group currently has its operational presence in 16 African countries and in Middle Eastern, Gulf and Asian countries like Saudi and the United Arab Emirates.

Receiving the delegation, Energy Minister, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, welcomed the team to his Ministry in particular and the country in general,stressing that the country had created the convenient atmosphere for private sector investments and was now looking forward to seeing companies invest.

He said his Ministry was doing a tremendous work in the solar energy space and would welcome efforts from private sector players in that regard.

Vice President of Afro Group, Ing. Yousri Saadat, said they had called on the Minister to brief him on the company's areas of intervention and its plans to start a solar energy factory in Sierra Leone.

He said his company was looking forward to forging a strong partnership with the Ministry of Energy, adding that investments by Afro Group in solar energy would positively impact learning in universities and schools, healthcare delivery and governance.
