Recommends Youths Of Kakajama Community For Embacking On Community Growth:

Today, SAT October 19, while on advocating obligation. This morning, we caught some positive youths from the in total action with massive road building work. For this development, we were reminded of Mellon Brima, well-known within the community as Prezo Mellon, one of the candidates for the chairperson's position of Kakajama community, we saw that he was the brain behind the strike. We're directly keen to get a snap at the rest for their exceptional hard work and unwavering commitment to the development of a long marginalized and deployable community over the past years. As a patriotic, hard-working and dedicated resident, we see that he has consistently demonstrated a passion for progress and a strong ability to inspire others and bring change to the lone community.

This might not be the first time that Prezo Mellon has effectively engaged young people and implemented initiatives that have positively impacted the community. As we're camping for community evolution, and with such energy, we believe he possesses the vision and drive necessary to lead the way toward a sustainable development target.

We urge the authorities around the area to pay attention to young people, as we strongly believe that such a youthful individual would be an invaluable asset in any capacity and deserves people's consideration. We took the yield of the community's attention and their support of the young man to get change for their community. This apparently says that the people are ready to conform to and chase other developing communities within the city. And according to them, they have been at the back for a very long time now so they need transition.

We thank them for the bold step and wish for a change and not anything diverse. We hope it will shower well on their path. Dream live to the people of Kakajama.

In a significant address at the opening ceremony of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 26th, 2024, held at the Njala Venue Hall in Bo City, Justice Abdulai Masiyamba Bangurah underscored the essential role of SLAJ as a defender of press freedom in Sierra Leone.

Speaking to over 200 journalists, he emphasized the progress made in protecting journalists’ rights but cautioned that much work remains to be done.

“One of the most important roles that SLAJ plays is that of the defender of press freedom in Sierra Leone,” Justice Bangurah stated, highlighting the importance of a robust framework to safeguard the rights of journalists. He pointed out that while there has been appreciable progress, the new constitution must reaffirm SLAJ’s commitment to advocating for press freedom through legal reforms.

In addition, Justice Bangurah warned that lingering obstacles to press freedom persist and called for SLAJ to remain vigilant. “The new constitution should enshrine the association’s role as a watchdog for press freedom, ensuring that any attempts to curtail the rights of journalists are met with stiff resistance,” he asserted. “You must continually combat this menace in the protection of the press.”

Pupils from KDEC Primary and Secondary School in Karene District, northern Sierra Leone, faced a challenging situation this past weekend as they became stranded in a flooded stream while trying to return home after classes. The incident occurred along the feeder road between Fintonia and Sanya Village shortly after heavy rains subsided.

One concerned stakeholder questioned the safety of younger children, stating, “If secondary students struggle to cross the stream, what happens to primary pupils?” Many of these younger students, aged between 3 and 15, were released from school between 2 PM and 3 PM, only to find themselves stranded.

School authorities noted that while some students managed to cross the stream, it remains perilous during heavy rainfall. With no alternative routes available, flooding poses a constant risk for students travelling to and from school.

Parents and school officials are now calling on the Education District Council and the Government of Sierra Leone to take action by constructing a safe mini bridge over the stream to facilitate safer passage for students in Tambaka Chiefdom.

As Sierra Leone prepares for the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers, excitement is building around the contributions of emerging talents Osman Kamara, Samba Will, and Umaru Samura.

Dutch-Sierra Leonean right-back Samba Will is ready to embrace the challenge. Currently playing for SV Huizen in the Dutch fourth tier, Will is enthusiastic about making his debut in the upcoming match against Ivory Coast this October, bringing fresh energy and perspective to the team.

Eighteen-year-old winger Osman Kamara, one of Arsenal’s most promising prospects, is eager to don the national colours of the Leone Stars. However, he expresses concerns about the potential for limited playing time, a common hesitation among young players eyeing international competition.

Umaru Samura, who plays professionally for ISI Dankor in the Cambodian Premier League, is equally committed to contributing to Sierra Leone’s footballing ambitions. Having been part of the national squad that faced Liberia in a friendly in 2017—though he did not see any game time—Samura’s dedication to representing Sierra Leone remains steadfast.

As these players prepare to step onto the international stage, they embody the hope and determination of Sierra Leone’s footballing future in the quest for success in the AFCON qualifiers.
