Seasons Giftings! It’s the first of December and we are gearing up for a holly, jolly Christmas. Maegan from our Marketing team is beyond excited to share her pick for , Jamie Oliver’s Mediterranean.

“I really enjoy cooking and the Christmas season always calls for a fun time of gatherings and laughter over food.

I highly recommend his recipe for the Tunisian Prawn Spaghetti. The zingyness of the lemons pair harmoniously with the prawns, amplifying their sweetness with every bite.

What I love about Jamie Oliver is that his recipes have always been simple and easy to follow, making cooking fun and super-exciting with minimal fuss. It would make a wonderful gift for any foodie; beginner cook or anyone who lives to eat.”

Inspired by his lifelong travels, Jamie Oliver’s Mediterranean features 125 recipes—from Salads to pastas and even sweet treats! 65% of the recipes are also meat-free or meat reduced, whilst still offering bold flavours.

With an abundance of fun recipes, you’ll find something for every day, every week, and every occasion.

Are you on the lookout for a new novel? Yeling from our Marketing team is Helen Oyeyemi's Peaces, and she's enjoying this strange novel!

"I was so intrigued when I first read the synopsis of this book, and it's been on my TBR pile since! I went in not knowing what's going to happen, and since the synopsis alludes to some sort of mystery, I wasn't surprised when the book exudes an enigmatic feel right from the start.

We meet Otto, the narrator, who tells us about how he and his partner Xavier were offered train tickets by Xavier's aunt as a gift. And so we follow them on their non-honeymoon honeymoon aboard a train, heading somewhere and nowhere (they're allowed to alight wherever they want to, along the train's many stops at various stations). It is also rumoured that the train is owned by a mysterious lady known as Ava Kapoor, whom Otto and Xavier were hoping to meet.

Peaces is a book that is highly quotable, with many interesting musings and deliberations. I'm enjoying Helen Oyeyemi's writing so far, and can't wait to finish the book and find out more about Ava, Otto, and Xavier, and how they're all possibly connected. I sure hope that this non-honeymoon honeymoon that Otto and Xavier are on would turn out fine! (I have a feeling I'd be wrong...)"

Words are the foundation of languages we use to communicate with one another. They are how we persuade, communicate and connect with people. Hong Jun from our Inventory team is Jonah Berger's Magic Words, and he recommends this to anyone who wants to make an impact!

"In this book, Berger mentioned a study that shows that by asking kids to be a 'helper' rather than asking them to 'help' increased the chance of them helping by a third. This minor difference may seem small, but it really illustrates that changing verbs into nouns makes a huge difference, as it allows kids to claim a desired identity of being a 'helper'.

Another example we can all related to would be using fillers like 'uh,' 'um,' and 'er' in our everyday speech. It is a common verbal tic that we tend to use when we're collecting our thoughts. However, by reducing the number of 'um's and 'uh's used in her pitches and presentations, a sales executive saw an increase in conversion.

With concrete advice and actionable techniques, this book prompts me to ponder on how the ideas in this book can be applied in real life. Could I have changed my sentence structures to get better and more desirable results? This book dives deep into intrinsic human behaviour and how the marginal difference in sentence structuring can impact your life. If you are keen to level up and become a better communicator, this is a definitely the book to read!"

If you've ever been a K-pop fan or know of friends who are, you'll absolutely enjoy Esther Yi's weird, provocative, and shrewdly poignant debut novel about the world of fandom.

She did not believe in idolising these boys, no. So when her flatmate—who talks incessantly about a boy band—invited her to a concert and claimed that it would change her life, it was with reluctance that she agreed—but she was soon mesmerised by the youngest, most luminous member of the band.

Seized by ineffable desire, our unnamed narrator begins writing Y/N fanfic―in which you, the reader, insert [Your/Name] and play out an intimate relationship with the unattainable star.

But when Moon suddenly retires, vanishing from the public eye, Y/N flies from Berlin to Seoul to be with Moon, while our narrator, too, journeys to Korea in search of the object of her love...

Crackling with intellectual sensitivity and sinewy absurdism, this literary debut asks if it is possible for one to assert their singular story amidst the amnesiac effects of globalisation, while unsettling the boundary between high and mass art.

Jaime from our Marketing team is Our Missing Hearts, Celeste Ng's latest novel, an important one for our times!

"Our Missing Hearts is set in an America where PACT (The Preserving American Culture and Traditions Act), a code of conduct aimed at protecting Americans, exist. Anything deemed dangerous, provocative, or subversive is destroyed. Books are banned, websites are blocked, and children are even taken away from parents if they aren't "American enough" and placed into foster families who are more patriotic. There is propaganda placed in every street, store and school about how to... Make America Great Again, essentially.

Bird, a 12-year-old boy, goes on a journey to find his missing mother, a Chinese American poet, who disappeared at the peak of the turmoil. This setting is heart-wrenching as he longs to reconnect with her, all the while keeping his head down and trying not to be noticed as a biracial kid.

There were times in the book when this dystopia felt all too real. It was a clear reflection of the racial injustices that happened, and are happening, to Asian communities—especially since the pandemic. It was a reminder of the bigotry, prejudice and fear in society that we have almost accepted as normal. Our Missing Hearts is a cautionary tale to the world, and everyone should pick this one up!"

Greta lives with her friend Sabine in an ancient Dutch farmhouse in Hudson, New York. The house, built in 1737, is unrenovated, uninsulated, and full of bees. She spends her days transcribing therapy sessions for a s*x coach, and gradually becomes infatuated with his newest client, a repressed married woman she affectionately refers to as Big Swiss.

One day, Greta recognizes Big Swiss’s voice at the dog park. In a panic, she introduces herself with a fake name, and they quickly become enmeshed…

Bold, outlandish, and filled with irresistible characters, Big Swiss is both a love story and a deft examination of infidelity, mental health, s*xual stereotypes, and more—from an amazingly talented, one-of-a-kind voice in contemporary fiction!
