A small consolidation of reviews for "Mongrel" over the past 12 days of Cannes:

"Zen-like tale of compassion and suffering among migrant care workers"
https://www.theguardian.com/film/article/2024/may/20/mongrel-review-zen-like-tale-of-compassion-and-suffering-among-migrant-care-workers

"There is a sense after seeing it...of having encountered greatness. That is a rarity, even in Cannes."
https://deadline.com/2024/05/mongrel-review-taiwan-drama-chiang-wei-liang-1235926980/

"Chiang’s tough but affecting film taps into tragically universal notions of feeling invisible or ineffectual in one’s day-to-day survival. These concepts are most certainly not lost in translation."
https://www.indiewire.com/criticism/movies/mongrel-review-1235006740/

"the quietly enigmatic Rungkumjad projects an air of decency which draws the audience...[t]he question of whether this ‘mongrel’ is staying in this hopeless place because he has no choice or actually deciding to remain adds a lingering layer of ambiguity to a powerful piece of social realism."
https://www.screendaily.com/reviews/mongrel-cannes-review/5193473.article

"The mise-en-scène and locations are all very contained and hermetic, but this is all a prelude to...a spectacular and ruthlessly staged demonstration of how the illegal immigrants land in these traffickers’ hands in the first place."
https://cineuropa.org/en/newsdetail/462564/

"There’s a serene, still devastation lurking at the heart of Chiang Wei Liang’s Mongrel."
https://www.highonfilms.com/mongrel-2024-cannes-movie-review/

Close attention is required for this sombre but impressive Taiwanese feature debut about exploited illegal staff, and their patients and gangmasters
