Mother's Day 2024
Today, we appreciate all mothers in the Community Care sector who extend their love, dedication, and compassion not just to their own families, but also seniors in the community!
To demonstrate our gratitude, we’ve asked AI to help them remember the boundless love they impart to the lives of others.
Wishing all mothers in the Community Care sector and beyond a Happy Mother's Day! 💖
Silver@Work Programme
What is the micro-job initiative?
Centre For Seniors (CFS) designed a programme, Silver@Work, to provide seniors a pathway to reconnect with the community by allowing them to take on micro-jobs, as well as lead more fulfilling lives as they age. This programme has rapidly expanded to more Active Ageing Centres (AACs), offering increasingly flexible employment options such as meal deliveries, medication reminders, befriending services and more that are tailored to the seniors’ needs.
As Singapore progresses as a super-aged society, providing these micro-job roles can not only provide fulfilment within seniors, but also foster a stronger sense of community among our elderly population.
Ms. Tan Su-Yin, Senior Director of Grants at Tote Board, says, “By offering seniors bite-sized roles that have been redesigned to make them more manageable, the scheme allows seniors to fulfil their aspirations for independence while enjoying their retirement.”

Volunteers Ask: Why You Volunteer Ah?
Who knew “rock, paper, scissors” could start off an insightful conversation about volunteering?
This short video features Paul, a volunteer at Martha AAC Presbyterian Community Services and Mdm Rosnah, a volunteer at Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities AAC @ Bedok, both of whom have found their passion and mission in helping others. Inspiring volunteers like them play a vital role in enriching the lives of our senior clients.
Mdm Rosnah says it best, “I am a senior and I like to go out and help others.” The power of volunteering!
World Social Work Day 2024
Just another day of us explaining what we do in Community Care to friends and family.
And when you throw the term “medical social worker” into the mix… more confusion ensues.
Happy World Social Work Day to all social workers and medical social workers!
AIC's CEO Dinesh at MWS Active Ageing Centre – GreenTops@Sims Place
A happy hour at the void deck? AIC's CEO Dinesh checked out this unique programme at MWS Active Ageing Centre – GreenTops@Sims Place to find out more! Fun fact: The programme was launched to attract more men to join the AAC.
That's not to say the women are forgotten – while the men chat over kopi, the women have a singalong session in the centre (males are welcome, of course). Watch the video to find out how Dinesh fared against the AAC clients in a table tennis match and karaoke battle.

Fit & Fun Adaptive Sports Toolkit (Sunlove Chai Chee Active Ageing Centre)
Looking for activity ideas for your clients? Take a leaf out of Sunlove Chai Chee Active Ageing Centre's (AAC) book by including adaptive sports as part of your programmes! Adaptive sports are sporting activities that have been modified to enable persons of differing abilities, including wheelchair users, to participate actively.
The AAC introduced seated floorball, based on the “Fit & Fun Adaptive Sports Toolkit”, which was co-developed by the Agency for Integrated Care - AIC Singapore and SportCares, the philanthropic arm of Sport Singapore (SportSG).
The toolkit aims to increase activity offerings to engage all seniors, including those who are frailer and/or wheelchair users, beyond the usual exercise and board games, and includes step-by-step instructions, alternative equipment suggestions, as well as ways to make 14 games more challenging or accessible for staff and volunteers to use to keep seniors active.
Download a copy of the “Fit & Fun Adaptive Sports Toolkit” at https://for.sg/fit-fun-toolkit today! FREE training by SportCares is also available for Community Care staff and volunteers. Find out more here: https://go.gov.sg/sc-ads-toolkit

Spreading joy through art and companionship!
Mdm Lim Soon Eng, 65, and Mr Ong Kim Soon, 67, are a remarkable husband-wife volunteer duo who bring art, games, and smiles to enrich the lives of seniors at NTUC Health Nursing Home (Tampines)!
Mdm Lim shares the beauty of Nagomi Art, while Mr Ong conducts Pai Da sessions and tends to a flourishing banana tree in the home's garden.
Volunteering can be a meaningful activity for both your clients and the volunteers themselves, as demonstrated by this husband-and-wife pair. And there's just something cool about seniors learning from one another! ❤
Eco-Fashion Runway at Clementi Community Centre
Eco-consciousness, but make it fashion — and with seniors! 🌍👗
Three Active Ageing Centres (AACs) based in Clementi banded together to organise an Eco-Fashion Runway for their seniors in October at Clementi Community Centre. Their aim? To empower seniors to live a sustainable lifestyle by creating practical items using everyday materials found at home.
A total of 60 seniors from six AACs (Lions Befrienders Active Ageing Centre @ Clementi 366, Clementi 344, Clementi 420A, SASCO @ WestCoast AAC (Care), Hannah Active Ageing Centre and Clementi CC Senior Citizens' Executive Committee) wowed the crowd with their recycled material masterpieces. From paper flowers to plastic bag creations, the seniors’ talent and imaginations knew no bounds.
Judges Jeanette Aw, Shirley Chia from Green Drumming and Jasmine Tuan from Cloop all had the the challenging task of selecting the winners — a testament to the level of creativity on display.
But the show wasn’t just about the competition — it was also about celebrating the spirit and creativity of seniors. Mr Chong Yoon Soong, 74, uses recycled materials in his gardening class with seniors at Lions Befrienders AAC @ Clementi 366. While Ms Alison Cheong, 71, created flowers made from recycled plastic bags as tokens of appreciation for the event.
By 2030, almost 1 in 4 Singaporeans will be over 65. Programmes such as the Eco-Fashion Runway are among the many that AACs across Singapore are organising to keep seniors healthy and active for many more years.
