Saint Bonaventure, born in the 1200s, was a Franciscan friar, Cardinal-Bishop, and Doctor of the Church renowned for his profound spirituality and intellectual contributions. He played a pivotal role in the development of Franciscan theology and spirituality, emphasizing the importance of mystical experience and the journey of the soul towards God.

He served as Minister General of the Franciscan Order and was a trusted advisor to popes and rulers of his time. His theological writings, especially “The Soul’s Journey into God” and “The Life of Saint Francis,” continue to guide believers in their spiritual lives.

Canonized in 1482, Bonaventure’s life and faith exemplify a deep commitment to Christ and the Church, earning him the title of Saint and Doctor of the Church.

As we celebrate his feast day and learn about his saintly life, may our hearts be moved and inspired to also contemplate on the Crucified Christ, from which our faith is rooted in.

Dear Lord, we thank You for giving us Your servant, St Bonaventure, as an example of holiness. Help us to imitate the holiness he showed in his lifelong commitment to study of You and ensuring others could learn about You.

St Bonaventure, you are considered one of the greatest Doctors of the Church. You spent much of your life studying theology and writing theological works. Because of your work, many others have been able to learn more deeply about God’s laws and His nature.

Pray for me, that I may seek to deepen my knowledge of God at every opportunity. Pray that I may never miss the opportunity to help others learn to know and love God more deeply.

St Bonaventure, pray for us! 🙏🏻♥️

This day, the Church celebrates an ancient tradition that gives thanks to God for the mission entrusted to the Apostle Peter and his successors — the Feast of the Chair of St Peter! ⛪️🪑🕊️

Beyond the grandiose physical chair and sculpture in St Peter’s Basilica, we celebrate the spiritual significance of it: the primacy of Peter as the rock of the Church — to whom Jesus instructed: “Feed my sheep.” (John 21:17)

Today, let us have confidence that the Lord has built His Church on the rock of St Peter's confession of faith, and that “the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18), especially in today’s world that is filled with skepticism and secularism.

Lord, keep your Church steadfast upon the rock of this faith, that in unity and peace we may continue to proclaim the one truth and follow you always! 🙏🏻

Did you know that the Church celebrates the World Day for Consecrated Life today, coinciding with the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord? 🕊️

St Pope John Paul II instituted this annual World Day of prayer in 1997, proclaiming that consecrated life is “a stupendous gift” that we must continue to honour and pray for.

Just as Jesus was chaste, poor and obedient, so too are the religious & consecrated of today called to live with their lives totally given to the Lord.

With such a great call, let us pray for all the consecrated persons in our Diocese and communities — for them to continually be sustained by God’s great love for them.
