Chee Hwa Tang I am a photography enthusiast and want to capture the special moments in mine and others' life.

I grew up in a city, where my house is surrounded by highrise and concrete jungle. Since young, I thought city is only a place for heavy economic activity and land of career opportunity. This mindset has caused me to only appreciate the sceneries when I travel out of the city. However, even within city, there's many beautiful sceneries, happenings and stories yet to be discovered.

Ironman 70.3 (Self-Supported) Trial 1

Also known as Half Ironman. This is a little fun project to evaluate the feasibility for self-support, with the official events with entry fee around USD500 and USD800 for half and full Ironman respectively. This will also save the hassle of flights and bike logistics. With that said, official events definitely give a great atmosphere, as well as support for the best time.

With that, here is the timeline for me.
0654-0754 - 1.9km Swim
0754-0800 - Shower, clothing change and transition
0800-1300 - 90km Cycle
1308-1615 - 21km Run

I used an ActiveSG swimming complex as base, at it is a great place to keep the bicycle and for hydration.

This is quite a good guage, with the slower pace in all 3 categories. With the swim having the best condition in the swimming pool, cycle not so due to the amount of waiting at the traffic junctions, and run in a hot and sunny afternoon.

I am definitely underprepared, physically for the hot afternoon run, as well as miscalculated the hydration for the run. Fueling wise is great, mainly on cereal bars and occasional milk coffee, good sustaining energy.

Definitely can improve the route for less stopping and better hydration location. The swim-cycle transition took longer than I thought.

Overall, it is an interesting test, and a little window into the real challenge when it comes to Full Ironman.😊

Anyone who want to do it, feel free to check out the cycling and running routes.

A little overview on the skates tour around Singapore I did over the weekend.

The journey starts and ends at Jurong Lake Garden, with some of the highlights shown in the photos.

The full route is in the final picture, or you can find the details in my Strava profile. Otherwise, read on for the breakdown. I have included my recommendation for beginner skaters and special notes on the segments.

The TLDR for beginner:
1. Jurong Lake Garden
2. Ulu Pandan Park Connector - Clementi to Buona Vista
3. Merlion - Marina Barrage
4. East Coast Park - Area B to Bedok Jetty
5. Punggol Waterway

Take it slowly and you should be fine, smooth paths without too much debris and obstacles.

A little note on the Checkpoints (CP) I placed, which is fairly arbitrary based on the distance and point-of-interest. Here we go:

Start/CP0 - The Lone Tree @ Jurong Lake Garden
CP1 - The Eagle Spot @ Clementi
CP2 - Buona Vista
CP3 - Rail Corridor under Portsdown Ave
CP4 - Alkaff Bridge @ Clarke Quay
CP5 - Merlion
CP6 - Marina Barrage
CP7 - Start of ECP
CP8 - Bedok Jetty
CP9 - Start of Coastal Park Connector
CP10 - Coastal Midpoint
CP11 - Changi Coastal End
CP12 - Pasir Ris Park
CP13 - Lorong Halus Red Bridge
CP14 - Jewel Bridge @ Punggol Waterway
CP15 - Luxus Hills Park
CP16 - AMK Town Garden West
CP17 - MacRitchie Reservoir Park
CP18 - Kheam Hock Park
CP19 - Old Bukit Timah Fire Station
End/CP20 - The Lone Tree @ Jurong Lake Garden

My water points for the journey is at
1. Start/CP0
2. CP6 Marina Barrage
3. End of ECP before CP9
4. Oasis Terraces @ Punggol Waterway (CP13-14) - Need to Change Shoes
5. CP17 MacRitchie Reservoir Park
There are many options to choose as we are in the city, though I try to reduce the times I need to change shoes.

The special notes for each segments is in the comment section.

Let me know if you need more information.

Thank you for reading and taking an interest.
Cheers,
Chee Hwa

Beneath The Horizon

Looking into the distance
Waves crashing
Boats rocking
Knowing that I will leave the shore
To venture beyond the horizon
Sandwiched between the blues
Up floats the white clouds
Down hides the rainbows

With anticipations
The boat arrives
Leaning my body over the boat
Falling into the sea
Deeper my body sinks
Into the dark unknown
Gaze as the bubbles escape
Up to the light above

What awaits me below?
Be it the colorful corals
Be it the remnants of a sunken ship
Be it the lifeless sandy bottom
Let the beauty unfold before my eyes

With Love,
Chee Hwa

The Rhythm of Life

Horizon
Drawing the line
For Zeus
To govern the sky
For Poseidon
To rule the sea

The sky
Filled with pegasi
Galloping in unison
Pulling the golden chariot
As Helios rides across
For he the God of the Sun
From east to west
Into the slumbering night

The sea
Stood the trident
Commanding the marching tides
Playing music of the waves
As Selena rides across
For she the God of the Moon
From east to west
Into the awakening day

The sky
The sea
The sun
The moon
Dancing to the rhythm of life
