Parts of Us Have Not Tasted God's Goodness
Perhaps I may have experienced what it's like to be chosen and cherished without reservation, being called Beloved by God. It's a beautiful, touching experience. However, there's always that part of me still in survival mode, unable to reconcile with this unconditional acceptance.
While one part of me has basked in this love, another part remains stuck, still hearing echoes of "you're only important if you meet our expectations" and "you did not obey, so you deserve to be punished." This part has not yet tasted the goodness of God's unconditional love.

The Universal Impact of Trauma on Our Lives (Trailer #1).mp4
Trauma touches us all in different ways, shaping our lives, relationships, and spirituality. We each carry experiences of things done unto us that harmed us, or things left undone which we needed. Trauma weaves a complex tapestry of coping mechanisms and survival strategies within us.
In our diverse needs and responses, even the most well-intentioned support may not always meet our unique requirements. And so, we learn to navigate life with the tools we have, influencing how we engage with others, perceive ourselves, and how we see and connect with God.

In our spiritual journey, there comes a time when everything we've built up—our knowledge, our accomplishments, our sense of certainty — begins to feel inadequate. This phase, often referred to as the spiritual mid-life, is disorienting. It's a period where the foundations we've laid seem to crumble, and what once provided security no longer does.
During this time, we're called to confront the deeper motivations behind our spiritual practices. It's not just about growing in knowledge or pushing ourselves to do more. It's about recognizing that our previous efforts may have been driven by insecurities rather than genuine love.
This process of dismantling is painful but necessary. Embrace the discomfort, for it’s a sign that real growth is happening. The spiritual mid-life is not a step backward—it's an invitation to a more profound relationship with God, one that goes beyond external achievements and taps into the core of who we are.

Letting It Be Done Unto Us.mp4
Embracing Spiritual Midlife with Grace
Spiritual midlife can feel deeply uncomfortable for many of us. For those who have relied on our strength and ego to navigate life and to achieve spiritual growth, it can be a shock to realise that, at this stage, there's nothing more we can do by our own willpower.
In this season of life, we are called to let go and let God take over. We must allow God to work within us. "Let it be done unto me."
This process often feels like an undoing. We find ourselves emptied, stripped of our illusions, raw and naked before God. But in this vulnerability, we also see ourselves more truly and experience the unconditional love of God.
It's a time of profound transformation, where we face the parts of ourselves we've avoided and learn to embrace them with God's infinite love.

As we become more integrated, our capacity to receive God's unconditional love deepens. This understanding isn't just intellectual; it permeates our entire being. We start to rest in the knowledge that we are loved by God, which shifts our focus from perfect performance to authentic relationship. This newfound confidence allows us to voice doubts and questions without fear, knowing that we are still loved. On the journey of holistic integration, we start valuing the messy and imperfect process of making our faith real. This means embracing our emotions and bodies rather than numbing them for a perfectly performed faith.
It’s about trusting that God is present in the reality of our lives, with all its imperfections. As we heal, we learn to trust our emotions and bodies, recognizing them as essential parts of our humanity.

When I give authentically and freely, it strengthens my self-trust and sense of wholeness. Genuine self-gift is an integrative force, connecting me to myself and others. It's about being attuned to the nuances of each situation and making compassionate choices from a place of freedom.
Each time I give freely, I grow in my capacity to love. This process boosts my confidence and generosity without abandoning or guilting myself. Over time, I cultivate unconditional love—giving without expectation, even if it's not a grand sacrifice. This love remains true and whole, regardless of how it's received.

Self-abandonment leads to losing trust in yourself, making you feel empty, unseen and unappreciated. When you constantly sacrifice yourself and others don't support you, it's not just about losing faith in them — it's about losing faith in yourself. This creates a cycle where you doubt your own worth and depend on others' validation.
Growing up, I didn't know how to trust myself. I relied on others' opinions, which made me co-dependent. It was insidious, preventing me from being my true self.
It's time to break this toxic cycle. Let's build self-trust and honor our true selves. You are your most important relationship.

God is not interested in how well I do. He is much more interested in my genuine, authentic response to His love. At every moment, He is loving me, even if I can’t fully receive it.
This understanding has made a huge difference. I used to think faithfulness was a binary thing, fearing that God was marking my performance. But now, I know He’s like an attuned parent, a loving spouse, an intimate friend. He loves me unconditionally, no matter what I can offer at the moment.
This truth about God required a lot of unlearning. I had to surrender my misconceptions to truly encounter His unconditional love. And now, the more I recognize and receive this love, the more I can respond in genuine faithfulness, however small those steps may be.
God is not grading me; He is loving me. And that’s the foundation of everything.

Understanding faithfulness took a turn after a profound retreat in 2016. For years, I believed faithfulness meant constantly proving my worthiness to God. But I've learnt that God is not constantly evaluating my performance. How can we feel safe if we think we're always being judged? God is more interested in my genuine, authentic response to His love for me.
It's about being real with Him, even if it means admitting I can't forgive right now because I'm still too angry. God values my honesty over performative acts of faithfulness. This journey involved a lot of unlearning – letting go of misconceptions about God and faith. It took time and willingness to surrender what I thought I knew, but it led to deeper encounters with His true nature.
This has been a transformative journey from feeling evaluated to feeling loved. And it all started with realizing that God isn’t grading my faithfulness but loving me through it all.

In my journey, I’ve realized that viewing my struggles solely through the lens of sin is limiting. It’s essential to adopt a broader perspective, one illuminated by God's love. God sees us not just as sinners, but as His beloved children. While we know this intellectually, our lived reality often feels otherwise, fixated on our flaws. This focus on sin impedes our healing and wholeness.
True transformation happens when we are loved into wholeness. Integration means being loved even in the midst of our compulsions and addictions because experiencing God's unconditional love daily, especially during our struggles, is transformative.
Healing began when I allowed myself to be loved in my helplessness, observing without judgment. This divine love, pure and unconditional, empowers us to break free from our struggles. Our ability to be virtuous and loving stems from being loved first.
Let’s embrace the mystery of divine love and allow it to transform us.
