Somehow, I ended up being on the road for most of 2020.

It was a time when our doors were bolted but I found myself on an empty flight to Serbia in August 2020, then an overnight bus to North Macedonia, Croatia and finally, reaching Sweden in winter. Oh, there was Lebanon and Tunisia sometime that year too.

It was a strange and surreal time to be away. If I didn't have these incredible ballet dancers as witnesses (a staggering total of 18!), I wouldn't have believed it myself. Here they are, and also all the amazing people I met in between.

Here is the story of how I ended up shooting not one or two, but a total of 18 dancers (can it be, really? I counted thrice!) from the Middle East all the way to Balkans and even Northern Europe in 2020.

My first interview in Hong Kong was with Apple Daily. That's not why this still remains as one of my favourite interviews. Some 11 years have passed but I still remember the reporter well. She was efficient and very focused, but still took time to joke with me like an old friend.

I also remember that I was a bit overwhelmed to be interviewed in Cantonese. On top of that it was a joint interview with a local. She must have seen that I was drowning. Maybe that's why she gave me a bigger spread even though I only took up 20% of the actual interview. If that was the case, it was kind of her.

For another reason, this interview will become one of the most important ones.
