Some more snapshots from the 5th year of where we heard from Indian and Swedish experts on their vision for climate action and collaboratives approaches for solving for the same. We also heard from 3 startups working on different sustainability challenges and how they're working towards some of the 2030 sustainable development goals.

We are delighted to share that ‘Engaging India at Almedalen’ turned 5 at 2024. For the team, it is the energy , the insights and exchange of ideas and knowledge shared by the speakers that keeps us going year after year, and this is was even more special.

Building on the theme, ‘Samband for Climate,’ which means 'a connection/a relation' in Swedish and Hindi alike, H.E. Ambassador Tanmaya Lal, H.E. Ambassador Jan Thesleff, spoke about the growing areas of collaboration between India and Sweden. including Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) 2.0. The big announcement on the addition of two new members to - Steel Authority of India Limited and CemVision - was made at by Ambassador Lal and State Secretary to the Minister for Climate & Environment Daniel Westlén.

Keynote speakers of PI Industries Ltd and of Thermax Limited shared their vision for a collaborative approach towards climate action, on keeping a balance between 'planet, people and profit' and the power of 'oneness'. Speakers from India and Sweden industry, academia, policy & civil society shared their learnings, from green transition for heavy industry to innovation for the last mile, from biologicals to biodegradable alternatives. The seminar closed with a fantastic line-up of start-ups sharing how they are solutioning for .

A big thank you to all the speakers, partners, the audience and our well wishers who ensure the platform grows year after year.

What led us to launch ? Perhaps it was the essence of Almedalen Week itself, with 2,000+ seminars drawing stakeholders from industry, government, academia, policy, civl society, and the youth to the island of ; so imagine the energy and collective knowledge that is generated in 3 square kilometres over 4 days. It's this energy, a possibility to bringing in a multi-dimensional, international lens, and the magic that can happen when stakeholders from different parts of the world start talking on a common platform, that led us to create Engaging India at Almedalen. Here are some of the snapshots from year 5!

Dr. T.S. Balganesh is an Independent Director at PI Industries, and also serves as President and a Director on the board of GangaGen Biotechnologies Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, Director on the board of Open Source Pharma India, Bangalore, and IKP, Hyderabad. Previously, he served as Managing Director and member of board of AstraZeneca India Pvt. Ltd., and has over three decades of experience working in anti-bacterial drug discovery. He holds a PhD in Medical Microbiology from University of Calcutta, and has done his post-doctoral research at Brookhaven National Lab, USA and Max Planck Institute, Germany. He has also been awarded an honorary doctoral degree from the Uppsala University, Sweden.

Earlier this month India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar visited Sweden and it was an honour to be invited to hear the his thoughts on 75 years of India-Sweden diplomatic relations, the progress made in industry and trade relations, and on how India's Digital Public Infrastructure is changing the landscape for access to services for the better. There is a lot happening towards building innovation partnerships between India and Sweden and I am delighted to share that at 2023 the focus of the 4th edition of 'Engaging India @ Almedalen' is 'Co-solutioning for the Climate' and 'Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development'. This year, 'Engaging India @ Almedalen has also invited industry representatives from India in person to participate at Almedalen Week. Lots happening, so watch this space!
