/ : Twenty years have passed since the publication of 'Swedish excavations at Sinda, Cyprus. Excavations conducted by Arne Furumark 1947–1948'. See https://ecsi.se/actaath-4-50/

Jennifer M. Webb wrote in the American Journal of Archaeology:
.. Adelman’s main objective was to retrieve and present the basic stratigraphic, architectural, and artifactual data, and he has done this in full and painstaking detail. In making the primary data available to other scholars, he has acquitted the primary obligation of the original excavator and ably fulfilled the demands and responsibilities of a collaborative task for which few of us would have had either the courage or patience.

Furumark’s excavations at the Late Bronze Age fortified town of Sinda, some 20 miles east of Nicosia, were conducted more than 50 years ago. Despite lack of publication and the relatively small area uncovered, the site has since played an important role in discussions of the 12th century B.C. in C...

/ : The first volume of Einar Gjerstad's massive "Early Rome" was published 70 years ago, the sixth and last volume 50 years ago. The books were discussed in a great number of reviews, some of them now listed at https://ecsi.se/actarom-4-17/

John Ward-Perkins wrote in Antiquity 52:205, 1978:

"It is to Gjerstad that we owe, and will long continue to owe, a definitive corpus of the archaeological evidence, some of it previously unpublished, much of it indifferently published, and all of it now much more accessible than it was before. As Ridgway remarks, ‘this is the best corpus that we have, or were ever likely to have’. Moreover, however coloured Gjerstad‘s own interpretations of that material may prove to be, he does also supply the information by which those interpretations may be reviewed and tested."

/ : Helge Lyngby's 'Beiträge zur Topographie des Forum-Boarium-Gebietes in Rom' was published in 1954. See https://ecsi.se/actarom-8-7/ The book was reviewed in several journals. Lionel Casson wrote in Latomus:

"Lyngby has not solved all the problems and a number of his solutions are, in the nature of the case, admittedly conjectural. But, in this model of exact research, he has summed up all there is to say on the matters involved: the problems he has dealt with need no further treatment until such time as the archaeologist's spade happily turns up some new, decisive evidence."

"Among the problems treated are: the origin of the “villa system”, the definition of the “villa”, the architectural analysis of buildings and building complexes, the magico-religious background of the “villa”, the role of religious painting, the origin of the Cretan andreion, and a study of ceramic exchange between towns and outlying settlements in Neopalatial eastern Crete."

/ : This week we go back to 1992, a year that saw the publication of Lars Karlsson's book Fortification towers and masonry techniques in the hegemony of Syracuse, 405–211 B.C.

"Syracuse assumed the leadership of the Greek cities after the Carthaginian wars of 409–405 B.C. and the first chapter discusses the four main periods which can be discerned in the archaeological material: (1) the rule of Dionysios I, 405–367 B.C., (2) the period of Timoleon, 244–c. 316 B.C., (3) Agathokles, 316–289 B.C., and (4) the rule of King Hieron II, 270/69–215 B.C. Pyrrhos, as king of Syracuse in 278–276 B.C., was also responsible for work on Sicilian fortifications. ... "

/ : The conference volume Current approaches to religion in ancient Greece was published in 2011.

"This volume brings together fourteen contributions from a group of upcoming international scholars, presented at a conference held in the Swedish Institute at Athens and the British School at Athens in 2008. The papers take a wide range of approaches: archaeological, epigraphic, iconographical, philological and historical. They demonstrate the diversity of the subject, covering such issues as nineteenth-century historiography, cult epithets, the pantheon, regionalism, polis religion, the performance of ritual, the use of music in ritual, the accessibility of sacred space, and the visual aspects of dedications. The contributions bring new theoretical perspectives, seek to better understand ritual, and highlight the variety of Greek religion."

The book was reviewed by Melissa Vetters in Gnomon:

"Der Band bietet vielfältige Anregungen, mykenische Figurinen nicht als Einzelobjekte, sondern als Teil mykenischer Lebenswelten zu untersuchen und gibt über die mykenische Figuralplastik hinaus innovative Anstöße für die Terrakottenforschung im Allgemeinen."
