Det var min far som kallade på mig på sitt vanliga sätt. Jag strök bort några svettiga hårtestar ur ansiktet och baxade upp bunten med pinnar på axeln. Det fanns inte plats för vila i mitt liv.

“Vad menar du?” undrade Conan.

Prästen Hadrathus satte sig ner på en stol och vilade sina armbågar mot låren. Han stirrade ner i golvet.

“Det är inte enbart upproriska baroner i Aquilonia och trupperna från Nemedia ni har emot er, ers majestät. Det är trolldom – vidrig svart trolldom från världens bistra gryning. En vidrig skepnad har rest sig ur det förgångnas skuggor och ingen kan stå emot den.”

Conan, kung av Aquilonia, förlorar under märkliga omständigheter sin krona och tron. Aquilonia tas över av hans fiender. I ett försök att återta tronen tvingas han ut på en resa som tar honom över berg och hav, ner i mörka gångar och i strid med monster, vampyrer och människor.

S*X rum och kök, Sonya Muño: Den vita skinnsoffan gnisslade lite när mina handrörelser ökade i intensitet. Jag tänkte på hur John brukade slicka mig, hans rufsiga svarta hår mellan mina ben. Jag stack in ett finger och drog sakta ut det. Med det naturliga glidmedlet kom jag snabbt och kanske skrek jag också. Flämtande sjönk jag tillbaka. Wow, det var tydligen något jag behövde.

Jag torkade av mitt finger på insidan av jeansen, drog upp dem och reste mig upp. Rummet gungade till och jag tog om huvudet med båda händerna. Jag kom på att jag inte ätit frukost, hoppat över lunchen och nu var klockan snart tre. Vad skulle jag äta? Stanna på Espresso house, köpa hem thai eller stanna till på Donken? Då såg jag att någon tittade på mig. En kille stod i trappan och tittade på mig med ett roat uttryck. Hur länge hade han stått där? Jag kände hur kinderna började hetta.

”Hej”, sa han och leendet blev bredare.

Conan stod ensam kvar i den stora salen, om man inte räknade med de döda kropparna på golvet.

Barbaren ändrade grepp på svärdet och klev sakta in i kammaren. Den var rikt dekorerad med silkesgobelänger, sidenkuddar och schäslonger utan uppenbar tanke. Över en stor förgylld skärmvägg tittade en kvinnas ansikte på honom.

Conan stirrade förundrat på det vackra svala klassiska ansiktet – han hade aldrig sett något liknande. Det visade ingen svaghet, ingen barmhärtighet, ingen grymhet, ingen vänlighet och inte heller någon annan mänsklig känsla. Det skulle kunna vara en mask av marmor, skulpterad av en mästare, men det fanns något levande i det. Ett kallt och märkligt liv som Conan inte kunde förstå och inte kände igen. De fylliga läpparna öppnades och uttalade ett enda ord med en ton som var lika vacker som klangen från klockorna i Khitans gyllene tempel. Det var ett okänt språk, bortglömt sedan dagens gryning, men Conan förstod vad hon sa: "Kom!"

According to the information discreetly conveyed by the lettering on this door, they were selling tickets to the planets right here in this office, just as, down on the first floor, they were selling airline tickets to Europe, Asia, and the islands of the far seas.

This—in 1951!

Markham was sure space travel was net yet possible. Then how could this unknown travel agency dare sell tickets to other planets?
