Hi everyone! Join **me** (that's right, here's a ryan Instagram takeover for you) for 'Hoppy Hour' at the Spinsheet booth this Friday, April 26th, from 5pm to 7pm at the Annapolis Spring sailboat show! 🍻⛵️ Come for the laughs, stay for the sails! (Just remember, it's not 'Happy Hour' without the 'H' and a cold beer in hand! 🍺😉) See you there!
Where's Sophie you ask? Well she had the bad taste to book a girl's trip to visit our friend in New York without inviting me. More wine on the Woodwind for us I guess! , , ,

From a pile of pieces of wood to the shape of a boat… This was our progress this last week!📈

Lots of epoxy, lots of sanding, lots of fiberglass and filleting, and not even close to halfway through, but definitely the most satisfying project we’ve ever undertaken.

There’s something truly unique about seeing the results of your work as you are doing it! 🤩

And now, going back to work to apply fiberglass to the inside of that hull 😘

Living with your partner 24/7 on a sailboat is challenging. If you hear someone say it isn't, they're lying.

Ryan and I aren't afraid to admit that we've had big and small issues over the last six years of sailing around the world, but we've always stuck together. We've learned that, to keep sane, we need to listen to each other, take time apart every now and then and self-reflect. Regularly going to therapy has also been super helpful and we 100% recommend it (seeing a real therapist, not downloading an app!).

If you're preparing to set sail, take some time to learn these skills and, if you like, choose the right therapist before you leave the dock. Sailing full-time is a lot of effort, so managing your relationship with your spouse is super important. You won't regret it.

Remember when we told you that we were going back to a 9 to 5 job in the coming two months?
Well, it has everything to do with our upcoming NEW BOAT (that's right!!!) and I would like to introduce you to... (roll the drums....)

Our Chesapeake Light Craft: Wooden Boat Kits Rhode Runner!!!

That's right. You are looking at a small wooden boat that we are currently building 😉

The Rhode Runner is a classic runabout motor boat that we will make fully electric thanks to an upcoming model of Dakota Lithium that we will be testing on this project 🙂

As we are finishing to figure out what Polar Seal II will look like, this is some of the most exciting boat project we've undertaken in a while, and we cannot wait to welcome this one to the fleet!

Construction has just started and should take about 8 weeks ⏳

Stay tuned for updates or join our Patreon page to get all the details!

(Oh and if you'd like to see what it should look like once finished, head over to our latest episode on Youtube 😉)

Merry Christmas everyone! 🎅🏻🎄🎁🦌

We hope that you are having a really good one, enjoying your time with whoever you wanted to spend it with this Holidays weekend and eating all the food (I know I am 🤤)

This year, we are celebrating Christmas in our new dwellings, giving each other pieces of furniture as gifts, and we asked Santa for a new boat (if you haven't seen the life update we posted on Youtube a few days ago, this is your sign!).

But mostly, what wish for ourselves and for you as well, is time. Time to spend on meaningful projects, time to connect with each other, and time to dream bigger. In the last few months, Ryan has been working a lot more than usual and we are hoping that 2024 starts with us getting some of our time back.

Which will probably be hard because starting January, Ryan and I will (for the first time since 2017!) go back to work between 9 to 5 to complete a project that we have been dreaming of for almost a year. Can you guess what that could be?

Answer in a coming video, soon on a Youtube channel near you!

I love the Caribbean... I really do :) And while all of our friends are posting their own pictures of tropical paradise these days, we wouldn't want to be there right now.

We really don't what to be there. Honestly.

We are in Annapolis, with quite a load of work, much of it incompatible with boat life. Because sailing the World costs money (shocking, I know!!!) we are currently taking this time to stage for bigger adventures.

So cross your fingers that all goes according to plan, and hopefully, we shall get back to this beach on Pigeon Island in Antigua on a bigger, better version of Polar Seal ;)

Happy holidays!

PS: If you fancy a real-time update on what we're up to, you know where to find it 😉

I’m so grateful six years ago Ryan and I took a chance and got to create this life for ourselves, where we both have work we are passionate about and we get to experience the world by sailboat. It’s truly rewarding. But sometimes it’s a little stressful...

Working to deadlines while being seasick at the dock or answering important work calls while on a passage can be overwhelming sometimes. We keep trying to find the right balance, but the truth is that if you work full-time while cruising, you have to take a little bit of the rat race with you 😉

With that said, I wouldn’t trade it for ANYTHING IN THE WORLD.

What's the messiest anchorage you've ever been at? ⚓

For us it was probably Shelburne (Nova Scotia). There were boats dragging, a sloop had to drop their chain and was struggling to get onto a mooring ball, and a day sailer flipped and nearly hit a catamaran. This has nothing to with the quality of the anchorage, though. The storm that hit us there felt like a tropical storm! 🌀

That was a pretty eventful day at anchor. I was seasick while working, of course, and Ryan got pretty wet, trying to help people from the dinghy. Want to catch the action? Get under a nice warm blanket and check out our latest video 🎥

This was my face when I realised we grounded Polar Seal 😒 Yep. It happened, again. This time was pretty scary because our keel got stuck between two uncharted rocks.

We were so busy getting lured by the Nova Scotia sirens (seals) that we barely noticed it happening at first. That's because we were going at about a quarter of a knot- thankfully!

You can watch us ground, recap our "fun" grounding history, and check that Polar Seal if OK in this week's episode, which went live yesterday.

This season I really tried to get onto the racing scene and I have to say; it's not going so well 😅

The first race I took part in didn't take place because there was no wind, so the team and I ended up drinking beer and swimming from the boat. Except I had no swimsuit 😒

The second race was in Chester, aboard a cute Bluenose sloop. I had great expectations for this one, but after my team and I performed a pretty nice tack, the wind died. It took us an eternity to complete the course.

Watch this week's episode to see me try my hand at racing once again *and* watch some real racing at Chester Race Week 2023 🎥
Spoiler alert: expect some cool drone shots of the race.

THANK YOU everyone for a wonderful 2023 Annapolis Boat Show!!!! 😀😍🥳 (read this post in my "I-have-no-voice-anymore" voice)

As always it was so much fun getting to meet you all and reconnect with our sailing friends who are normally scattered around the World :)

Special thanks to our Patrons and in particular our friends John and Nancy for hosting and participating in our first formally organized Patreon meet-up, what a blast to see some of you again and meet some of the new faces of our most awesome community ❤
Special mention to our friends Greg, Christine, John and Marleen for assisting with the preparation of the food for the evening, including letting me use a kitchen to prepare potato salad for 50 people over the course of an entire afternoon 😆

Thanks to our friend, the illustrious Jeff Bach for organizing the Sailing Channel Booth that allows us to connect with you for a few hours, and thanks to Dakota Lithium Batteries for sponsoring the booth and contributing to the fun! (Team DL forever 😘😘😘)
If you are a content creator in the sailing space, hit us up and Ryan (who co-founded the company 15 years ago) will put a good word for you to the marketing team 😉

Super thanks too to the Schooner Woodwind: Annapolis Sailing Cruises and all of you who braved the weather to come sail with us, it is always a fun moment (even upwind and in 30 knots of apparent wind ;))

We have many more people to thank for this fantastic week, but my brain is still functioning at half capacity even after four days of trying to recover, so I'll keep it at that.

This last weekend, I met a lot of people who mentioned that when I do not publish a video each week, they wonder where we've been. The answer is: sometimes, I just can't hold myself to a schedule, and this week is one of those (between the booth times at the Youtube booth and Dakota Lithium booth, preparing and giving seminars, participating in panels, going to multiple events each day, and talking non-stop for a week, I am EXHAUSTED 😉)

I am back in Premiere Pro with four episodes about our season in Nova Scotia to finalize, and since you read all the way through this post, let me give you a spoiler/preview of what is coming: in a coming video, we GROUND Polar Seal 🥴

In the meantime, I'll go back to bed, but I will see you very soon in a new episode!!!

One week until we get to meet you at the Annapolis Boat Shows! 🥳

This year again, we will be at the Sailing Youtube Booth on a few occasions, and we have planned a couple of sails on the Schooner Woodwind: Annapolis Sailing Cruises (the only time that we can sail AND have a beer at the same time ;))

Of course if you see us in the alleys of the show, feel free to stop us and say hi, though I shall warn you: Ryan has become that person, who will talk to you about his dog for hours even he's met you two minutes ago. Mention Barnacle at your own peril ;)

For a schedule of where we will be and when, click the link below, and we look forward to seeing you again this year!

This year again, we will participate in the Annapolis Boat Show and if you'd like to come meet us, we have planned plenty of opportunities to hang out and have fun together 🙂 Tickets: To get $5 off your Annapolis Boat Show tickets, use code 23RSABS at the following link.

Come hang out with us at the 2023 Annapolis Boat Show! 🥳🥳🥳

This year again, we have planned a lot of fun activities including hanging out at the Youtube Sailing Booth, speaking about relationships onboard at the Cruiser's University, and generally taking part in the big party that the show is 🙂

But just as last year, the one thing we’re looking forward to the most is meeting YOU!!! 😍

If you would like to sail with us, you can join us on the Schooner Woodwind: Annapolis Sailing Cruises on Saturday or Sunday. We had such a great time last year, sailing on the water with all of you, we are excited to do it again!

I took this shot from Polar Seal when we were moored in Lunenburg Harbor. It was the rainiest and foggiest summer the city has ever experienced, according to the locals. While being stuck there was a little frustrating at times, it allowed me to take atmospheric pictures like this 👌

Sometimes you need to give a place (or a person) enough time to reveal their best self. This is Polar Seal moored in Lunenburg Harbor. We had to wait fog and rain out for many days before we could see how truly gorgeous this place is. It was totally worth the wait!

Watch this week's video to explore Lunenburg and eat lobster rolls with us 🦞 Also, don't miss the cameo of our good friend Andy Schell from 59 North 🙃

We get incredible views from our hatches everywhere we go, but on occasion, we get some truly unique ones.

What was it... the Empire State Building? Or maybe was it the Chrysler Tower?

I don't remember... Only that I've seen them in movies and on TV so many times growing up, and it was my first time looking at them "in real life".

Grab some popcorn, and catch that view live in our latest YT episode! 🍿

I took this photo of Ryan on our very first passage of 2023, on a sail to West River. The sky was a weird color and the air was really poor quality. Our throats and eyes hurt because of the smoke from the Canadian wild fires. Wonder what sailing in those conditions was like?
