Our time in Ukraine has now come to its end, and we could not be more than grateful to have been apart of this successful trip.
From deconstructing Ukraine's political conflicts, to unraveling it’s socioeconomic situation, we have now managed to familiarise ourselves with the sovereign state.
While traveling through Ukraine's capital, Kiev, we had the pleasure of visiting the Swedish embassy, which has been onsite since 1992. During the visit, the Ambassador's First Secretary, Ms Louise Morsing, who works with Economic and Cultural Affairs educated us about the historical background and provided us with a better overview of Ukraine’s current economic status. On the very same day, we visited the Headquarters of the Swedish and Ukrainian IT business - Beetroot Academy, who through education strives to help their students build a great career in IT, and lay the groundworks for a better future. It was fascinating to see how this nonprofit business managed to reach out to its diverse range of customers, and consistently achieve such high results, despite the large expenses for courses.
One of Ukraine’s main fields of economy is it’s Agriculture. Out of the total land area, statistics state that 42 million H/ 60 million Hectares are used for agricultural purposes. In order to understand the great value that agriculture has for Ukraine we travelled from Kiev to Ostroh and from there to (Liviv - which is the largest city in the western part of Ukraine). During this long journey we were lucky enough to have a previous scholar from the category, “Rural Development" with us, as he had run his own Agribusiness in Ukraine for the last couple of years. His own experiences of starting up a business in Ukraine as a foreigner was very interesting, as well as educational for businesses like SHELLTER who has big plans of expanding abroad.
Visiting Ukraine with the Wallumni Scholars was incredible. Not only was this an opportunity for SHELLTERto expand its network amongst the scholars and other businesses, but it even became a chance for us to identify our customers and potential partners in Ukraine.
