Our Story

An online magazine where Sudanese and non-Sudanese shed light on life in Sudan. It consists of articles that will educate individuals about all things Sudan, bringing opinions and facts together to give you the most informative guide to life in Sudan.

500 Words Magazine was originally founded on 1 June 2012 by Moez Ali and Mohamed Mahmoud. The non-profit, independent, online magazine was born out of the simple idea that young Sudanese should be able to have a platform to share their opinions on the Sudans’ – both North and South – whether they grew up here or are part of our vast diaspora.

The magazine relaunched on 1 October 2018 — a soft launch — under new founder, Ola Diab. 500 Words Magazine remains a non-profit, independent, online magazine but with a new mission, sharing stories highlighting the diversity of life in the Sudans with the aim of delivering informative articles and listings, covering everything from culture and tradition, society, education, healthcare, technology, the environment, business and entrepreneurship, art, food, fashion, beauty and more.

Contributors are free to write about anything related to the two Sudans. There will be a section for columnists, where the writer would have more freedom to express themselves. Columnists will be selected based on quality of content and consistency of article submission. All submitted articles, from all contributors, will be published. If you or anyone you know would like to get involved, please contact us at [email protected].
