For more than 2 years now, people of Ukraine have been leaving their homes and the life as they knew it behind.

Tamara and her 3-year-old twins are among the millions of Ukrainians who fled their country due to Russia’s full-scale invasion.

They found refuge in neighbouring 🇲🇩 Moldova. There, we are working together with the World Food Programme to make sure Tamara, her children and many other people living in the same conditions receive daily hot meals.

Together with the EU countries, we have mobilised support for people fleeing the war in 🇺🇦.

We keep channeling more assistance and support to the people who left Ukraine to seek protection and to those who stayed in the country.

⚠️ According to the latest food security report, the Gaza Strip is seeing the highest number of people ever recorded as facing catastrophic hunger. For families in the north, is imminent. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

🆘 WFP's Chief Cindy McCain says: "There is a very small window left to prevent an outright famine and to do that we need immediate and full access to the north."

"If we wait until famine has been declared, it’s too late. Thousands more will be dead."

📄 What does the report say?

🔺In Gaza’s two northern governorates, where around 300,000 people remain trapped, famine is expected to arrive between now and May.

🔺Overall, the new report shows everyone in Gaza is facing crisis levels of hunger or worse.

🔺1.1 million people – half of the population – have completely exhausted their food supplies and are experiencing catastrophic hunger and starvation - the most extreme food security classification. This is the highest number ever recored by the IPC system and double the number just three months ago.

🛑 What's needed to avert famine?

The report says that famine can be halted if full access is facilitated for aid organizations to provide food, water, nutrition products, medicines, health and sanitation services, at scale, to everyone in need.

For this to be possible, a humanitarian ceasefire is necessary.

Unless fighting stops and aid agencies have full access throughout Gaza, and especially to the north, then hundreds – if not thousands -- more children will die of hunger.

The Integrated Food Security Classification report is a multi-stakeholder platform that analyses data from WFP, other UN agencies, and non-governmental organizations to determine the severity and magnitude of hunger crises according to internationally-recognized scientific standards.

What is ? It's a global standard for defining the most devastating form of hunger. In its simplest terms, famine means that at least two out of every 10,000 people will die of starvation or disease every day.

When famine is declared, it's already too late.

"My business means a lot to me. It means building a better future for my children, better than the life I have lived." 💙🥜 Edith started her company, TebuTebu Enterprises, in with support from a WFP.

💵 Through her hard work, Edith’s business has grown and she now produces some 10 buckets of peanut butter per month, compared to two when she first started. Each bucket yields 40 small plastic jars of peanut butter, which she sells for US$1 each.

🥜 Peanut butter is a popular and fast-moving product in Zimbabwe. It is a nutritious and affordable source of protein.

An estimated 29% of urban families in Zimbabwe face food insecurity. WFP supports people to pursue their livelihood aspirations and strengthen their resilience to shocks.

When we , we transform entire communities.

“I am a person who loves working. I really love working. So when I work and earn my own money, I feel really happy," says Edith.

“Education is very important. Education can help you get a good job and help your family.”

Sida Lisha attends primary school in Yambio, where WFP provides school meals to 1420 students.

WFP’s school meals ensure children eat at least one nutritious meal a day, promote school attendance, enrolment and improve student's grades. Better health and nutrition allow children to learn and perform better, broadening their educational opportunities.

“I want to be a teacher to know more about science and help many children” says Sida.
