Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy Welcomes the Outcomes of the African Union-European Union Meeting and Calls for Urgent Action to Protect Civilians in Sudan 11 October 2025 The Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy (NCPD) welcomed the outcomes of the 16th Annual Consultations between the African Union Peace and Security Council and the European Union Political and Security Committee held in Brussels, considering them an important step toward protecting civilians and ending their suffering in Sudan. The Center emphasized that words are no longer enough in the face of civilians’ tragedy, calling for commitments to be translated into urgent actions that prioritize civilian protection and break the cycles of war and foreign interference that threaten Sudan’s dream of peace and dignity. The NCPD also stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and accountability for perpetrators of serious violations, including systematic sexual violence, extrajudicial killings, and attacks on humanitarian workers and civilian infrastructure. It underscored that a military solution will only bring further destruction and suffering. The Center warned against continued external interventions and the financing of the conflict, affirming that the Sudanese people are enduring one of the largest humanitarian crises in modern history. It called on the international community to address the crisis as a fundamental humanitarian and moral issue. The NCPD urged the African Union to take a leading role in diplomatic efforts, and called on the European Union and the United Nations to act urgently to protect civilians and increase support for refugee-hosting countries, emphasizing that true peace must be built on justice, dignity, and mutual respect.
