Stunning sunset!

13/10/2023

We purchased an ARB TWIN AIR COMPRESSOR. This paired with our INDEFLATE TYRE DEVICE and REDARC SYSTEM makeS this a great combo when we go camping. It’s about optimization for us and creating efficient systems for a better experience! We use this all the time so it made sense for us to invest 🤑🤑
Pros
1. No more pulling it in and out of the car.
2. Doesn’t take up space inside vehicle. We’ve mounted it inside the bonnet.
3. Its connected to our REDARC system to power it on and off. So we can use bluetooth for this.

📍Savuti Waterhole, Botswana
This place is EPIC at sunset! Elephants come charging in to drink water and the sounds and chaos that ensue is entertaining to watch. We caught some magical moments on this trip and I’m so grateful we had the opportunity to visit this beautiful country.

We spent 49 days in Namibia and Botswana and we loved every minute of it!
We hope our adventures inspire you to do the same 🔥

Have you ever seen a sleeping elephant?
Woke up in the morning and walked to the ablutions and found this beauty. I quietly creeped up and listened to make sure she was still breathing. She was having a great snooze 😴

Have you ever seen a lioness hunt, catch a kill and then carry it away?
This was a first for us and boy it didn’t disappoint!! We were the only ones at this sighting and were doing everything we can to stay out of her way and just witness the magic! 🤩

IT WAS EPIC!!! We were buzzing that whole evening after!

Day 25: Chobe River Sunset Cruise 🇧🇼
Here’s a quick peek at our experience of a chobe river cruise. We saw a range of birds, antelope, crocs, hippos and ellies. I was even able to tick off three epic photos/sightings:
1. An ellie river crossing.
2. Ellie eating grass while in the river.
3. Ellies and sunset.
A superb way to see wildlife from a different view.

I’ll do a cruise review post soon so watch this space 🐘🐊🦛🦅🦆

Day 20: Ngepi Camp River Cruise
A must do activity! Seeing wildlife and the national park from the water is a totally different experience. We enjoyed going out on the boat and the guide was knowledgeable and would try to navigate the boatso everyone can see and take pictures. The sunset on the Kavango river was EPIC!

Day 18-20: Bwabwata National Park - Buffalo Core Area

Did you know there were two parts of Bwabwata National Park?

The Buffalo Core Area is situated on the eastern side of the Okavango in the Kavango region of Namibia. The park has a size of 629 km². We saw impala, many buffalo, giraffe, elephants, sable and lions.

Day 18-20: Bwabwata National Park - Mahango area

The Mahango Core Area is situated on the western side of the Okavango close to the Popa Falls. The park is small and has a size of only 245 km². A morning here was enough for us but I’m sure that you could do more. We saw sable, roan, warthog, crocodiles, zebra, giraffe, hippo, mongoose, impala and a variety of birds.

An unplanned visit to Kasane saw us take the opportunity to visit the Chobe NP Riverfront. After deciding to do a self-drive in the park from Kasane we took the river route. We saw ellies, impala, monkeys, giraffe, crocodiles, hippo and zebra. What a beautiful place!

Day 11 & 12: Olifantsrus - Etosha National Park

Our first time in Etosha National Park and she didn’t disappoint. Vast landscapes, dry and dusty…… and a plethora of animals at the waterholes all trying to get their fill. Our campsite was right next to the fence and hearing the sounds of nature such as lions, zebra, hyena and ellies was amazing. The hide was right above the waterhole and we were able to sight animals near and from far and the beautiful african sunrises and sunsets were spectacular. I really had to pinch myself to make sure it wasn’t a dream.
Still more adventures to come…….. exactly 37 days of it!

I wish the people in the back would be quiet 🤫

Ngepi Camp near Divundu
This guy decided to have a swim in the Kavango river. Like a kiwi he had to do a bomb and splashed the whole deck 🙄 Luckily its caged otherwise 🐊 He said it was colder than the Haparapara 🤣

Day 10: Twyfelfontein Rock Art UNESCO World Heritage site.
This particular site is different from Bushman’s because the art is chiseled into the rock. They had depictions of Sable, ostrich, ellies, giraffe, zebra, antelope, black and white rhino. The most famous animal depiction is the lion. My favourite was the white and black rhino. The cost is N250 pp and its expected to tip the guide. The tour takes 45 mins to 1hr. I would recommend this tour if your in the area. They offered us Desert Elephant tracking for N350 pp in your own vehicle but we didn’t have time.

Day 9: Spitzkoppe - Bushman’s Paradise Rock Art Paintings

We decided to do both Small and the original paintings area. It’s free entry if you camp inside the rest camp and its expected to tip your guide. There’s hundreds of paintings depicting different animals and the San people’s way of life. They used ochre (red) and hyrax urine (white) as paint. For spiritual rituals they would use the blood of the Eland. The symbolism within is amazing right down to the direction the buffalo is facing.
The hike up the original site requires some fitness and the views are amazing!
I highly recommend doing these activities.

Day 8: Cape Cross Seal Reserve, Namibia.

This place is stunning. A picturesque spot for a colony of seals. There’s so many dotted along the coast, rocks and in the rough seas. For those that have been there know that the SMELL is really bad 😆 but……. It’s worth a little discomfort to see this place. Observing the seals behaviour is intriguing……. Seeing them move up and down the beach, the way they sunbathe in the sun with arched backs and then watching the pups try to search for their mummies amongst the throngs of seals is truly a great experience. After kayaking with them in the sea and then to see them on land is a great conclusion to being on the coast.

Location: Al Khairah (Kherah) Forest Park, Al Baha

GPS coordinates: 20.0525849, 41.3980860)

Transport: any type of car

Camping: Yes! 🏕
Great camping spots about 25 mins from Al Baha. There’s lots of space and different places to camp. We were here in May 2021.

Recommendations:
- Drive around first and check spots before choosing one.
- Street lights stay on all night
- garbage bins nearby
- Toilets are 5 min drive away in main day park area. The park at the top is a great manicured park for kids to play at.
- Great views on the drive up and at the top.

If you go please do TAG us in your posts or add any recommendations that you have for these spots for others to use 👍🏻🙏🏻

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not BURN your PLASTIC, BOTTLES AND CANS and take every bit of garbage and more back out with you.

Thank you for following the ‘LEAVE NO TRACE PRINCIPLES’ 👍🏻🌍❤️☺️
