Bedouins used night stars as guides during their nomadic journeys. Canapus (also known as the Suhair Star in Arabic) is the brightest Star on the southern side, usually emerging at the end of August.

Since ancient times, the appearance of this star has been used as a positive sign; it signified the end of heat when temperatures gradually decreased. Until today, the sign of the Suhail Star on the night sky denotes the end of summer and the beginning of cooler temperatures.

Saudi Arabia has had remarkable participation this year. Note that it isn’t the first time for Saudi to be part of the Olympics.

The reason behind the issue’s theme:


“Summer to me resembles happiness. The summer sun is yellow, and yellow is a cheerful color, isn’t it?

In the summertime, we see more happy colors (like pink, orange, lime green, or bright blue). Despite the rising temperatures, summer is full of joyful elements, making it a merry time. The sunlight is brighter. The sky is bluer, and the trees are greener. Summer is a holiday. Summer is fun. It is about traveling to lovely places. It is about enjoying the beach, eating your favorite ice cream flavor, and getting ‘vitamin sea.’ The days are longer, so we can spend more time during the daylight and get things done!

For this reason, I named this summer issue ‘Summertime Happiness.’ I was inspired by Lana Del Rey’s song titled ‘Summertime Sadness.’ Even though it is such a good song, I have to disagree with her. Summertime should not be a sad time, but I’m sure the song has a reason.

Happiness is quite subjective, so everyone defines it differently. Happiness to you might be different from what happiness to me. Anyhow, let’s have a moment and appreciate the summertime happiness.”

A unique event called, The Red Sea Fashion Week, was held from 16 to the 18th of May at the Red Sea Project. The three-day event included seven designers and 21 fashion shows. The participating designers were Tima Abid, Sara Al Twaim, and Hadia Ghaleb's swimwear collection.
Prominent figures and influencers, such as Lojain Omran, Cyrine Abdulnoor, Saudi Actress Mila Al Zahrani, and Saudi Model Ratana, also attended the event. Not only did RSFW include fabulous summer designs, but it also had a candlelit gala dinner under the stars.

Looks like is a festive month.

Also happening in May is the Cannes Film Festival. It is one of the most anticipated events and the most famous and glitzy film festival.

In its 77th edition, the Cannes Film Festival 2024 takes place from 14th May to 25th May at the La Croisette. This year’s theme is the Japanese classic ‘Rhapsody,’ which premiered in 1991 at Cannes.

Let’s take a look at the Cannes red carpet looks by Heidi Klum, Anya Taylor-Joy, Shanina Shaik among others. We also loved the presence of the Saudi influencer Yara Al Namla.

For Table Tennis lovers, Saudi Smash was taking place from 4 to 11th of May at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.

Saudi Smash was the first event about World Table Tennis to be held in Jeddah where world champions competed against each other. There were different stages such as Men’s Singles, Women Singles, Men’s and Women’s doubles. Wang Chuqin won the first place In the men’s single while Chen Meng won in the women’s singles.

The theme of this year’s event, held on May 7, was titled “Garden of Time” in collaboration with the costume exhibition theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

Saudi Film Festival , in its tenth edition, is taking place at King Abdul Aziz Cultural Center (ithra) from May 2 to May 9. This festival aims to promote Saudi films that are selected internationally.

The festival is an annual event organized by the Cinema Association with Ithra with the support of the film commission of the Ministry of Culture. The event also includes film screenings, workshops, masterclasses, and competitions.

The Lebanese haute couture designer Rami Kadi ( ) partnered with AlUla Moments to showcase his spring/summer 2024 collection.

On Friday, April 19th, he hosted a historical evening with his latest collection titled “Les Miroirs,” or Mirrors, in an open-air fashion show. The evening was filled with celebrity guests such as Dorra Zarouk, Najwa Karam, Mila AlZahrani, and Lama Al Akeel.

The spectacular landscapes and carved mountains of AlUla inspired spring/summer collection. He used recycled plastics and shattered glass as well as colors of pink, green, and blue.
