Rwanda Media Commission RMC We are the Rwanda Media Self Regulatory Body

The Rwanda Media Commission (RMC) is established pursuant to Media Law No 02/2013 of 08/02/2013 that provides for the creation of media Self-regulatory body, determining its mandate and functions and legally empowering journalists to, in practice, consent to its establishment. RMC aims to develop a consensual view of the importance of promoting, nurturing and protecting ethical practices in the m

edia profession and voluntary adherence to them. In this sense, its mode of operation is not to act as policeman but voluntary adherence to its authority and decisions.

On November 15, 2024, the media fraternity elected a new board for the Rwanda Media Commission (RMC), the media self-regulatory body.

The four members elected by the media to join the board are Scovia Mutesi, Xavera Nyirarukundo, René Anthère Rwanyange, and Philbert Girinema. They joined three other members: Rev. Jean Pierre Uwimana from academia, Dr. Liberata Gahongayire from civil society, and Adv. Muhirwa Ngabo Audace, who represents the Rwanda Bar Association.

The bureau will be composed of Scovia Mutesi as the new RMC Board Chairperson, with Rev. Jean Pierre Uwimana serving as Vice Chairperson and Xavera Nyirarukundo as Board Secretary.
