IMAPET: "NO SECRET THAT MY RELATIONSHIP WITH STANISLAW AND TARIK WAS ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS"
Former Evil Geniuses coach Chet "ImAPet" Singh has confirmed that a breakdown in his relationship with Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and Tarik "tarik" Celik led to his departure from the team.

The North American coach was on Saturday relieved of his duties after nearly two years in charge, during which he took the team to new heights, including a brief stint at No.1 in the world rankings in the Fall of 2019.

Evil Geniuses won ESL One New York and StarSeries i-League Season 8 under his watch, but results haven't gone their way since then. They currently sit at No.7 in the world rankings and failed to make it out of the groups in their first two LAN events of the year, BLAST Premier Spring Series and IEM Katowice.

FNATIC THROUGH TO ESL PRO LEAGUE S11 STAGE 2 OVER NIP

fnatic are through to the second stage of ESL Pro League Season 11 Europe after outlasting NiP in a three-map series.

The two Swedish behemoths found themselves fighting for survival in ESL Pro League Season 11, with fnatic coming out smiling in the end. The first map, Overpass, gave viewers the sense that the current world No.5 was having an off-day, but they responded with stellar performances on the next two maps, where Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin's talent shone through.

NiP kicked off their pick, Overpass, with a flying start that featured a USP-S triple kill from Tim "nawwk" Jonasson in a 2v3 post-plant. The Ninjas were rock solid on the offense and were able to persistently pick fnatic's defense apart. This, coupled with a spectacular performance from Simon "twist" Eliasson, who by half time had posted 20 frags, made for a dominant 13-2 half. Similarly to the first batch of rounds, fnatic were unable to put up a fight on the offense, conceding map one with a heavy deficit.

OFFICIAL: IMAPET LEAVES EVIL GENIUSES

Chet "ImAPet" Singh has been relieved of his role as Evil Geniuses coach, the North American organisation has announced.

The 23-year-old coach left the team following an alleged conflict with in-game leader Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and with Tarik "tarik" Celik, according to information first reported by DBLTAP and confirmed by HLTV.org. He made his last appearance in the server for Evil Geniuses in Friday's 1-2 defeat to Liquid in ESL Pro League Season 11, which saw the team finish second in the round-robin stage with a 3-2 record.

ImAPet was part of the team for nearly two years, having been appointed as the squad's coach in May 2018 following his departure from OpTic. He led the team to No.1 in the world rankings last year following an impressive post-break run that saw them reach the semi-finals at the StarLadder Major, and win ESL One New York and StarSeries i-League Season 8.

FORZE QUALIFY FOR ESL PRO LEAGUE SEASON 11 EUROPE

forZe have assured themselves a place in ESL Pro League Season 11 Europe following a 3-0 victory over HAVU.

The two sides battled it out in the ESEA MDL Season 32 Finals for a spot in the next season of Pro League, with the loser of the matchup being sent to ESL Pro League Season 10 Pre-Relegation for another shot at promotion against EPL Season 10’s worst performers and Spirit, the third-placed MDL side.

Coming from the upper bracket, forZe entered the best-of-five matchup with a 1-0 map advantage over HAVU, with the Russian squad doubling their score as the opening map of Train concluded. HAVU made it far from easy, though, as the Finnish side pushed forZe all the way to double overtime, but standout performances from the duo of Bogdan "xsepower" Chernikov and Jenya "FL1T" Lebedev edged the Russians over the line.

LIQUID ELIMINATE FAZE AT BLAST PRO SERIES GLOBAL FINAL

Liquid secured a 2-1 victory over FaZe in the lower-bracket final (16-13 Mirage, 12-16 Dust2, 16-10 Nuke), to save their tournament life and set up a match against NiP tomorrow.

After losing their opening series to Astralis and NiP, respectively, Liquid and FaZe faced off in the lower-bracket final in Riffa, Bahrain. At the conclusion of a back-and-forth series, FaZe fell to Liquid and ended up eliminated from the event, while the North Americans will take on NiP for a place in the grand final tomorrow.

Liquid were off to a great start on their map pick, Mirage, taking a 7-1 lead on the offensive side. It took FaZe bringing out the double AWP setup to put an end to the North American domination, and slowly but surely, they strung seven rounds together, not giving away more than two kills per round.

FaZe were looking to continue their form in the second half, but the wind was taken out of their sails in the pistol as Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken clutched a 1v3 on the B bombsite. Early into their T-side, the European mixture also suffered a 1v1 loss and faltered to an anti-eco, allowing Liquid to run away with the lead, reaching map point. Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and co. then rallied back, but eventually faltered to a strong A hold which allowed Liquid to claim the map 16-13.

CR4ZY TOP GROUP A OVER NORTH; TO DREAMHACK OPEN SEVILLA PLAYOFFS

CR4ZY beat North 16-11 on Train to clinch a DreamHack Open Sevilla semi-final berth.

CR4ZY made it four out of four playoff runs at DreamHack Opens with this lineup after defeating Movistar Riders in their Group A opening match and North in the winners’ match. Since Nemanja "nexa" Isaković and Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač’s departure, they have won in Rotterdam and made it to the semi-finals in Jönköping and Atlanta.

The match between CR4ZY and North started off with a triple by Rokas "EspiranTo" Milasauskas to put the European combine ahead on the CT side. The first gun round came after a clean anti-eco, and another three-kill round by EspiranTo kept his team solidly in the lead. It looked like North could take their first in a 2vs2 afterplant on B, but a successful retake by Luka "emi" Vuković and EspiranTo denied the Danes and put 5-0 on the board. North finally found cracks in the defense and brought it all the way back to a tie with hits on both sites, but CR4ZY put a stop to it and closed the half out with a five round streak to make it 10-5.

Teen Dominates Smash Tournament Using 6 Different Fighters

Seventeen-year-old Smash Ultimate prodigy Sota “Zackray” Okada clutched out his first No. 1 placement at a U.S. Smash tournament using—count ’em—six separate Smash fighters.

Based in Japan, Okada is known for two things: his majorly terrifying Wolf play and being very, very young. At Okada’s second U.S. major tournament, his friends had to hoist him on stage after their victory. And before his third, he had to make a mad rush for the airport after his March high school exams to make it in time. Since then, he’s been awing audiences with his prodigic reflexes and ability to download his opponents’ playstyles.

At the weekend’s Big House 9, Okada powered through the bracket using Wolf, Corrin, Game & Watch, R.O.B., Joker, and Sonic. Although he had less success with some fighters, like Corrin and Sonic, Okada had surprise after surprise in his back pocket, up until he faced top player Samuel “Dabuz” Buzby. At that point, he let his Wolf and R.O.B. take the lead.

Riot Forbids League Of Legends Players And Commentators From Discussing Politics On Air

Ever since Hearthstone pro Chung “Blitzchung” Ng Wai got suspended for a year by Blizzard after making a declaration of support for Hong Kong earlier this week, the issue of politics during esports streams has been a hot topic. The head of Fortnite studio Epic Games, for example, said he supports players’ right to speak out about politics and human rights. Now, however, Riot has taken the opposite approach.

In a statement on Twitter, the League of Legends developer and publisher said that pro players and commentators have been told to keep their political thoughts to themselves during official broadcasts.

“We serve fans from many different countries and cultures, and we believe this opportunity comes with a responsibility to keep personal views on sensitive issues (political, religious, and otherwise) separate,” wrote Riot global head of esports John Needham. “These topics are often incredibly nuanced, require deep understanding and a willingness to listen, and cannot be fairly represented in the forum our broadcast provides. Therefore, we have reminded our casters and pro players to refrain from discussing any of these topics on air.”

He went on to say that Riot has fans in volatile places like Hong Kong, and as a result, “we have a responsibility to do our best to ensure that statements or actions on our official platforms (intended or not) do not escalate potentially sensitive situations.” In telling people to stay mum about politics, Needham said Riot hopes that League of Legends can be “a positive force that brings people together, no matter where they are in the world.”

As of 2015, Riot was fully owned by Chinese mega-company Tencent, who also owns portions of many other video game companies including Epic and Blizzard.

In this case, Riot clearly intends to remain neutral, but as Kotaku’s Joshua Rivera wrote earlier this week, video games are not neutral, and the furor surrounding Blizzard’s Hong Kong fiasco—which has led numerous players, commentators, and fans to protest—is proof of that. In making this decision, Riot is picking a side and, through its global influence, contributing to an oppressive and harmful status quo, even if it believes it’s just staying on the sidelines.

Blizzard Finally Comments On Hearthstone Debacle, Reduces Suspensions And Returns Prize Money

After a week of controversy surrounding its decision to boot Hearthstone pro Chung “Blitzchung” Ng Wai from a tournament and suspend him for a year for delivering a pro-Hong-Kong message during an official broadcast, Blizzard has finally made a statement about the situation. It plans to allow Blitzchung to collect his prize money after all and reduce his suspension.

In the statement, Blizzard president J. Allen Brack explained that while Blizzard tries to uphold company values that focus on diversity and global thinking, it also wants to keep esports events focused on games. Blitzchung broke a rule, but Brack insists that the specific words he said weren’t the issue.

“The specific views expressed by Blitzchung were NOT a factor in the decision we made,” wrote Brack. “I want to be clear: our relationships in China had no influence on our decision. We have these rules to keep the focus on the game and on the tournament to the benefit of a global audience, and that was the only consideration in the actions we took. If this had been the opposing viewpoint delivered in the same divisive and deliberate way, we would have felt and acted the same.”

Brack went on to say that, since Blitzchung did not break any rules while playing the actual game, he’ll get to collect his prize money after all. However, he’ll still be suspended. Now, though, the suspension is six months instead of a year.

“We now believe he should receive his prizing,” said Brack. “We understand that for some this is not about the prize, and perhaps for others it is disrespectful to even discuss it. That is not our intention. But playing fair also includes appropriate pre-and post-match conduct, especially when a player accepts recognition for winning in a broadcast. When we think about the suspension, six months for Blitzchung is more appropriate, after which time he can compete in the Hearthstone pro circuit again if he so chooses.”

Same goes for the commentators who were on duty at the time; their suspension, too, has been reduced to six months.

“Moving forward, we will continue to apply tournament rules to ensure our official broadcasts remain focused on the game and are not a platform for divisive social or political views,” said Brack. “One of our goals at Blizzard is to make sure that every player, everywhere in the world, regardless of political views, religious beliefs, race, gender, or any other consideration always feels safe and welcome both competing in and playing our games.”

But, as has been stated multiple times by fans, players, and commentators throughout the week, it’s hard to square this kind of faux-neutral political stance with the games Blizzard creates and the values it espouses. This is a company whose games are full of heroes fighting for freedom and equality, and China’s handling of Hong Kong has been anything but. All political statements are not equal—especially where human rights violations are concerned—and it’s disheartening to see a company with Blizzard’s legacy stand behind that kind of false equivalence in a time when games are, more than ever, intertwined with culture. Reducing Blitzchung’s suspension is a step in the right direction, but in the face of all this, it’s still hard for the company’s games and statements not to ring hollow.

Brack opened his statement by saying that two of its core values—“Think Globally; Lead Responsibly”—apply here. But this isn’t global thinking or responsible leadership. It’s reactivity and fear of reprisal. It’s an abdication of responsibility at a time when it’s needed most.

Chance The Rapper Is A Clueless Esports Reporter In This League Of Legends SNL Skit

Keeping track of everything happening during a match of League Of Legends can be tricky, even if you are an experienced player or an announcer. But it is completely impossible if you usually cover NBA games. That’s the situation Chance The Rapper’s Saturday Night Live character faced in a skit featured last night on the show.

Chance hosted the show last night. This is his second time as an SNL host, and he brought back a character from before, Lazlo Holmes. This sports reporter gets stuck covering sports he doesn’t really understand, last time it was hockey this time its esports.

A perfect balance of confusion, snark and maybe a touch of jealousy? Even Chance can’t keep a straight face at one point in the skit, breaking into laughter at the joke, “I guess esports was what white and Asian kids were doing while black kids invented hip hop.”

Incredibly Stable Company WeWork Appears To Be Investing In Incredibly Stable Industry: Esports

With its dying breath, it looks like startup-turned-laughing-stock WeWork is investing in esports.

Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that WeWork filed a trademark with the United Kingdom’s Intellectual Property Office for “Play By We.” The application describes “entertainment services in the nature of online video game playing and esports,” “esports contests” and “providing facilities for video gaming events.”

WeWork carved out a name for itself renting shared office space and tech services and, in August, was valued as high as $47 billion. After the company’s shady business practices and managers’ incompetence were exposed by its SEC filing, WeWork’s valuation plummeted to $8 billion and the company delayed its initial public offering.

Far be it from us to give investment advice to a company that managed to bungle its IPO despite a $7.5 billion SoftBank investment, but WeWork isn’t the only fraying brand doing this. The retailer GameStop, whose share price has plunged and is closing 200 stores, is doubling down on its esports investment this year, too. GameStop has looked into “home-grown e-leagues,” esports education programming and tournament sponsorships. GameStop also opened an 11,000-square-foot arena called the GameStop Performance Center in Frisco, Texas, for the esports team Complexity Gaming. In an interview with Kotaku earlier this year, the CFO of Complexity Gaming declined to share with Kotaku whether the company is profitable.

When it comes to charming money out of investors, “esports” is the new note to play, it seems, replacing “blockchain” (which was the new “wearable”)—one of those things that’s mysterious and sexy because it so perfectly balances being hard to explain, full of big numbers and a little science-fiction. Esports is the future, say the businesspeople reliant on its future success. Yet according to a Kotaku investigation earlier this year, the esports industry seems like it’s headed for a fat market correction. More generously speaking, “esports” isn’t the magic bullet for a sinking company’s money matters.

I am a huge esports devotee and regular participant in Super Smash Bros. and Overwatch tournaments both IRL and on Twitch. Despite my fandom, and millions of others’, it’s also extremely unlikely that the esports industry is performing on the level that big players say it is. Analysts like NewZoo often say the world of esports is worth $1 billion—a slick number, yet one that may very well be made up. Industry professionals speaking with Kotaku have said they have no idea how that number could possibly be real. Even if the numbers add up, it’s often difficult to tell whether esports should actually get the credit. For example, it’s tough for outside observers to differentiate between players buying in-game Overwatch cosmetics for the New York Excelsior or players buying a simple in-game loot box.

One Fortnite esports insider told Kotaku that they “don’t share any financial details. . . so almost everything you see out there is guesswork,” and at Riot, one insider said that many reports referencing League of Legends’ financial data are “garbage.”

There have been layoffs at esports organizations Infinite, the ESL and Echo Fox. Even successful golden-boy esports organizations like 100 Thieves—ones experts cite as having actual, viable business models—can’t afford Activision’s $25 million buy-in for the Call of Duty league. Entire leagues like Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm league and H1Z1’s pro league have shuttered, with the latter owing hundreds of thousands after shuttering. Esports viewership data is unreliable and, sometimes, intentionally inflated.

WeWork, like GameStop and many of the other companies taking ventures into the esports industry, appears to be chasing a fantasy.

A Tekken Legend's Visit To Pakistan Is Met With Both Cheers And Drama

Over the last year, Pakistan’s fighting game community has risen from relative obscurity to a place of prominence thanks to a handful of its players winning major Tekken 7 tournaments on the world stage. The country has garnered so much attention, in fact, that South Korean veteran Jae-Min “Knee” Bae traveled there last week to train for the Tekken World Tour finals this weekend. What should have been a simple opportunity for these players to learn from one another, however, became a mini controversy when two of the country’s best avoided playing the South Korean visitor altogether.

It was a no brainer for Knee to visit Pakistan ahead of the upcoming Tekken World Tour finals, both as a way to learn from a country that hasn’t had much representation on a global level and show respect to the local fighting game community for its explosive debut. And the Pakistani players ate it up; Knee was greeted both at the airport and a local game center with gifts and applause, owing to his legacy as one of the greatest Tekken competitors of all time. What followed was three days of intense competition, during which Knee beat almost everyone who challenged him, including Arslan “Arslan Ash” Siddique, the surprise Pakistani competitor who had previously defeated Knee at both Evo and Evo Japan en route to first place finishes at both events.

'We Moved Too Quickly': Blizzard President Apologizes For Hong Kong Incident

Before Blizzcon’s opening ceremony, Blizzard president J. Allen Brack somberly addressed the crowd with an apology for Blizzard’s harsh punishment of Hearthstone esports pro Chung “Blitzchung” Ng Wai. “Blizzard had the opportunity to bring the world together in a tough Hearthstone esports moment about a month ago and we did not,” said Brack.

“We moved too quickly in our decision-making and then, to make matters worse, we were too slow to talk with all of you,” said Brack. “We didn’t live up to the high standards that we really set for ourselves.”

Brack went further: “I’m sorry and I accept accountability,” he said.

In October, Blizzard announced it would suspend Chung from Hearthstone esports for one year and rescind his prize money after he made a statement in support of the Hong Kong protesters. The move spurred a huge controversy, which even reached the ears of U.S. senators and congress members. It would be days before Blizzard commented on the affair Blizzard reversed their decision, giving back Chung’s prize money and reducing his suspension.

Said Brack today, “We will do better going forward, but our actions are going to matter more than any of these words.

Favourites Ninjas in Pyjamas had a rough start in the Dota Summit 11 Minor, barely making it out alive on the first day of competition.

The famous team, who are sponsored by Betway esports, are set to make a comeback soon.

Several people had pencilled in NiP in the Winner’s Game for Group A to face Invictus Gaming, but the final minute jfshfh178 fell into the top team. The CIS team gave it all and brought out an epic upheaval with nothing to lose in the battle against certain legendary players.

Ninjas in Pyjamas were a favourite earlier to win the Dota Summit 11 Minor, but were knocked out even before playoffs started.

It only seems that the amount of NiP is jfshfh178, as the stack puts all they had in the elimination match. Their work was recompensed so that their tale of Cinderella continues.

In addition to a few brief blows in the early game, the first game was opened by Peter “ppd” Dager and his squad. Nikita “Palantimos” Grinkevich, who again played fine against her and went on 14/08 against lane players from the NiP, couldn’t find a way to stop the Europeans ‘ greatest weakness.

MDL Chengdu Mayor’s final stage is about to begin. Only 8 of the 16 original teams were left to prepare for the International 2020 for $850,000 and 14,000 qualif**ation points.

The stakes are high, not only with the money but also because the top four teams will most probably be able to go to TI10, while at the end of the season 5th–6th will be given a good chance. With so many Dota 2 giants missing, it’s by far their best shot for a clear TI invite for many of these squads.

On the first day of the Chengdu Major, Vici Gaming defeated Team Spirit and Alliance, and joined TNC Preditor, Liquid Team, and Invictus Gaming to reach the upper end of the Major.

Victoria received a night stalker, gyrocips and Earthshaker in Game One against Team Spirit to get their tournament run underway. Zeng’ Ori,’ Jiaoyang’s Gyro was invincible throughout the game, eliminating Zhou’ Yang’ Haiyang’s tension and making him run at a pace that Spirit couldn’t near.

Spirit struggled back in game two, championing an earlier than usual killing core from Chaos Knight and Tiny. It was a close battle, but Spirit avoided a late-spaced Gyrocopter and evened the series thanks to good distance and some early kills.
