Press release:

FLUID BOUNDARIES
Galateea Contemporary Art Gallery, 132 Calea Victoriei, Bucharest, invites you on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 7:00 PM, to the opening of the exhibition Fluid Boundaries by artist Anca Vintilă Dragu, curated by Anca Boeriu. The exhibition will be open from June 19 to July 15.
As I looked at Anca Vintilă Dragu’s works, I searched for the one word that might define her as an artist, as a woman. But I couldn't stop at just one. Instead, I found a string of words that could go on endlessly: calm, serenity, spirituality, openness, beauty, normality.
Anca is one of those artists who, even if you don’t know her personally, reveals herself completely, without any mask, through her ceramics. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered anyone so direct, so beautifully close and intertwined with their own works.
In these restless times, we gently step into the artist’s quiet, calm sanctuary, where she reveals to us a ritual of return, return to personal space, to the stillness of a gravitational moment, to that state of grace she describes as rare and precious, when everything aligns and the mind begins to float.
A visit to her creative universe immerses us in this world of silence. We are drawn to approach her pieces gently, to follow them with our eyes—from figurative forms to metaphorical ones that briefly transport us to the vastness of the sea. And there, through light, sound, and scent, we are held in a moment of introspection. Anca’s searches, her emotions and questions, become our own.

Curator: Anca Boeriu
Lecturer PhD, Graphic Arts Department
National University of Arts, Bucharest

Fluid Boundaries – A metaphor for personal space and for the fluidity of the self in transformation and change.

In the nearness of the sea, there are moments of introspection, melancholy, emotional stirring, and healing, experiences that the sea brings to the surface. Personal space, for me, is a fleeting sanctuary sketched with gentle gestures, an open-air chamber of purification, where the borders between body and landscape dissolve.
The circle created by the porcelain buoys mark a state of grace, that rare and precious moment when everything aligns and the mind floats in quiet suspension, a white, weightless, ephemeral space. These floating forms, though created to resist sinking, rest quietly on the sand, surrendering for a moment to gravity, to silence, pausing in stillness after having braved the sea’s turmoil.
The work becomes an attempt to hold this state: a visual meditation on stillness, on moments when time seems to slow down. This is a space of solitude, a silent ritual where the external fades and the self, intuition, begins to speak. There is no defined center, but a presence forms, like a breath.
This circle is the personal territory, an opening rather than a boundary, sculpted from the materials of the sea, the shore, and the self.

⏳ The works presented in the Centenary Paul Gherasim exhibition stand as living testimony to a friendship that continues beyond time, a plea for the truth of art and for the beauty that does not cry out, but waits to be discovered. An act of gratitude brought not just to a man, but to an entire vision of the world: profound, luminous, humble.

The Romanian Cultural Institute from Vienna presents the exhibition "ELYSIUM, a sensory perspective in the works of Vasile Fuiorea” in the Institute's gallery from April 10 to May 9, 2025.

Opening was Thursday, April 10, 2025, 6:30 p.m., with the participation of the artist Vasile Fuiorea and the curator Ana-Maria Altmann.

The exhibition features paintings that explore the interplay of the four basic elements: water, air, fire, and earth. Drawing on sensory experiences and postdoctoral research in the field of visual art, the artist translates dynamic compositions onto canvas, summarized under the title "ELYSIUM." Vasile Fuiorea explores the landscape from the perspective of contemporary art through a combination of techniques that emphasize structures, rhythms, and elemental energies. The picture surface becomes a score of gentle yet distinct color tones that can be perceived as re-enactments of mythological gardens. The focus of this exhibition is not the longing for distant mythology, but rather the longing for the nearby environment, which is in danger of being lost. Drawing inspiration from previous exhibition series such as "Spiritul Muntelui," "Introspecții," "Telluric Landscape," "Reverii," and "Structuri Dinamice," the artist develops a visual universe in which the interaction of primordial elements takes on spiritual and symbolic values. (Ana-Maria Altmann)
Vasile Fuiorea (born in Peștișani, Gorj County) is a visual artist and university professor. He graduated from the Art High School in Craiova and the Faculty of Fine and Decorative Arts at the Western University of Timisoara. He served three terms as president of the Târgu Jiu branch of the Union of Visual Artists from Romania. In 2012, he received his PhD in Fine Arts with a thesis entitled "Water, Air, Fire, and Earth: Frequent Themes in Painting (Between Figurative and Abstract)." Since 2019, he has been a lecturer at the University of Craiova, Faculty of Orthodox Theology. His recent solo exhibitions include "Pictura între gest și culoare" (2012), "Introspecții" (2018), and "Reflecții asupra sinelui" (2023). He has participated in numerous international symposions and exhibitions, including the "International Exhibition ART WORKSHOP VOLARY" (Brussels, 2023), "Extra nove Volarismus" (Italy, 2024), and the "Nicolae Tonitza" and "Ioan Andreescu" International Biennials (2024). He was honored with the Award of Excellence for his entire artistic output at the Nicolae Tonitza Biennale (2024) and with the Special Prize of the Board of Directors of the Union of Visual Artists from Romania (2024).
Ana-Maria Altmann (born 1956) is an art historian and the curator of the exhibition. She studied museum studies and art history in Bucharest and Poitier (France) and worked as a museographer at the Cotroceni Palace until 1983. She has lived in Vienna since 1984, where she worked at the Belvedere Museum and the Albertina. She has coordinated numerous Romanian contemporary art projects in Vienna and has been the artistic coordinator of the cultural activities of the Keisersteinbruch Museum and Cultural Association since 1990.
The exhibition can be visited on weekdays from April 10 to May 9, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Press release:

Galateea Contemporary Art is delighted to invite you to the opening of the exhibition FORMATIONS IN JUMBLE JAMS by Greek artist Hector Mavridis, marking his first exhibition in Romania.
The event will take place on April 16, 2025, at 6:30 PM.
We look forward to welcoming you and exploring the artistic universe of Hector Mavridis!
Coordonator: Anca Dragu
Hector Mavridis is a multidisciplinary artist. His installations, performances and public interventions provoke an artistic discourse about the unlimited possibilities of ceramics.
"Formations in Jumble Jams" reflects my journey of navigating disorder, confusion, and overload, embracing the messiness and unpredictability inherent in the process. It explores how these elements can lead to new insights into the essence of my work.
Throughout my work, the uneventful, the unseen, and the seemingly insignificant are central, holding latent potential for discovery and transformation. These overlooked aspects challenge my perception, urging me to reconsider the value of the ordinary and the transient, both in art and in life.
Over time, my theoretical and attitudinal shifts in ceramic discourse have transformed how I engage with materials. Clay, glaze, air, water, and fire—once integral to the creation of a ceramic object—have now become distinct, autonomous elements. Each material possesses its own character, qualities, and language, and the concept of co-existence no longer holds the same significance for me. This shift has given rise to a new "Ceramics Language Code," enabling the emergence of fresh aesthetic events, gestural acts, and experimental realizations.

In my work, I explore this shift through:
"PROTO-PAINTINGS"
Gestural imprints, made with clay, metal oxides, water, and fire on paper, plywood, and ceramic fiber paper, form a distinct kind of ceramic painting, offering a paradigm that challenges the traditional boundaries of ceramics and painting.
VARIOUS OBJECTS / SCULPTURES, INSTALLATIONS, PERFORMANCES, PUBLIC INTERVENTIONS
These works exist between the ephemeral and the uneventful, highlighting subtle moments and transformations, revealing hidden possibilities, and inviting unexpected encounters and interpretations.

„I present this series of artworks as a ludic moment of reflection upon the ephemeral tangible reality, poised against the current socio-cultural backdrop. The works that preceded this approach have become pedestals for the metaphysical world of installations bearing new mysteries and new esoteric meanings. The portraits wear seemingly random pieces on their heads, placed in a balance that indicates a time that has become static in the exaltation of the divine as opposed to the unfolding of action.”

There is a time for introspection, a moment when returning to model study might just be the best way to start from the beginning, and what is the best model if not your own image?
Challenged by the concept of "persona," I have imagined a series of works gathered in a personal, unitary endeavor simply called "self-portrait."
The mask, the double, the way we perceive ourselves in certain attitudes or at different times in life, but also the attempt to find that deep, unchangeable part of our own unique self that also unites us with others, all become starting points for exercises in plastic expression.
Designed as sequences or small installations, the works - made of various ceramic materials - aim to emphasize the ambiguity between bas-relief and decorated surface, autonomous object or pretext for drawing study exercises.
