The integration of circular economy principles into businesses is still at an early stage globally, given that, according to the “Circularity Gap 2024” study, conducted by Deloitte and the Circle Economy Foundation, only 7.2% of the materials used in production are reused. Meanwhile, the pressure put by the linear economic model on natural resources and ecosystems has reached critical levels.

It cannot be underestimated how significant recycling is, which benefits multiple industries by providing resources in the form of secondary raw materials. Through the contract with Expur we secure part of the raw material to produce diesel from renewable sources, thus progressing towards our ambition to become the first major producer of renewable fuels in the region.” Expur S.A. is a Romanian company, part of the Avril Group, one of the largest producers of vegetable oil and diesel from renewable sources in Europe.

RetuRO SGR , the Deposit Return System administrator, reports that in the first six months of the program’s operation, it handed over 29,000 tonnes of DRS packaging to recyclers. This performance represents approximately 85% of the packaging returned and collected from consumers. Of the collected amount sent to recycling stations, about 90% was directed to local operators following the bottle-to-bottle principle, ensuring that the secondary raw material ends up in the same type of product it originated from.

T-Mobile Czech Republic, Slovak Telekom and CE Colo Czech Republic, all part of the Deutsche Telekom Group, have signed cross-border virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs) with Rezolv Energy, the Prague-headquartered renewable energy producer. These are the first cross-border VPPAs that have been signed by Czech or Slovak companies. The power will come from the 461MW ‘VIFOR’ wind farm, which has been developed by Rezolv and Low Carbon in Buzău County, Romania, with the VPPAs enabling the construction of the first phase of the project. In the second phase, a further 700GWh per year will be available for corporate buyers.
