The company reportedly expects the higher PlayStation 5 price tag to impact demand, so it will segue new players into PlayStation Network services in the meantime.

The PlayStation 5 is still planned to launch in 2020, but Sony could reportedly ship fewer PS5 consoles than it did with the PS4 back in 2013. This decision is not directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic, but competition from Xbox Series X and pricing, instead.

Bloomberg reports that an expected high price at launch will result in lower demand, leading to a decrease in production. As a result, the company is only planning to make 5-6 million units by March 2021. This is roughly 2 million units fewer than the 7.5 million Sony made for the PS4's launch. Competition may be driving the decision to go forward with limited supply, as the sources said that if Microsoft doesn't delay Xbox Series X, Sony won't delay PS5.

Sony has previously said that the launch shouldn't be impacted by the coronavirus. That's supported by this report, which states that production itself hasn't been impacted. That said, one factor weighing on Sony's price decision is said to be the scarcity of components, and coronavirus could still have unforeseen impacts on production as we move further into 2020. The pandemic has already prevented engineers from flying to China to direct assembly plants, and like much of the industry Sony expects game production to be impacted. We may have already seen a sign of that with the delay of PS4's The Last of Us 2.

One aspect that has already been impacted is promotion, which has reportedly undergone big changes in light of the pandemic. That includes the reveal of the DualSense, which Sony revealed in a post on the PlayStation Blog. Since the controller has been shared with developers, Sony couldn't put off the reveal due to the threat of leaks.

The company reportedly plans to use the PS4 to segue users into its PlayStation Network services until PS5 supply is more plentiful. It's also considering price cuts for the PS4 models around the launch of the PS5, to encourage adoption and drive up PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now membership.

Known for its critically acclaimed survival horror game Until Dawn, Supermassive Games kicked off its next project, The Dark Pictures Anthology, in 2019 with Man of Medan, which told the frightening story of a group of college students who find themselves aboard a ghost ship. Now, the next entry in the horror franchise is nearly here. A recent trailer revealed the anthology's next installment, Little Hope, will release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime this summer, nearly one year after Man of Medan. And if you already know it's a day one purchase for you, Amazon is starting to open up pre-orders for The Dark Pictures: Little Hope.

As with Until Dawn and the first Dark Pictures game, Little Hope will involve playing as several different characters from a third-person perspective and making decisions as the story progresses that will affect various outcomes. The decisions you make for each character affects how their personality evolves over the course of the game, and those decisions also affect their relationships with each other. As a result, there are multiple endings and different ways that things can play out in Little Hope, and as always, the stakes are high--no one is guaranteed to survive if you don't think carefully about your next move.

Story-wise, Little Hope follows a new group of college students along with their teacher, who find themselves stranded in a quaint, isolated town shrouded in fog after their bus crashes in a storm. You soon discover the town has a dark and bloody past--in the 17th century, the town was "gripped by witchcraft," and nobody was safe from the accusations that would cause your death. The trailer shows flashbacks to 1692, when these Salem-inspired events took place, and it seems as though your actions in the past will affect how the future plays out, although it's unclear exactly how much agency you'll have in these scenes.

"All that suffering, all that malice leaves a profound effect. It creates repercussions. And there are always repercussions," teases the mysterious Curator in the trailer, the omnipresent narrator from Man of Medan who returns to guide you and speak to you directly as the player in Little Hope.

While similar to Until Dawn in many ways, The Dark Pictures Anthology innovates on the genre with its multiplayer gameplay, which is set up perfectly for a spook-filled game night. In the couch co-op Movie Night mode, each player will pick a character (or two, depending on your group size) to play as, and every time that character has a playable scene, you'll pass the controller around. You can also play online with a friend in the two-player Shared Story mode. While each player will experience the story together, at certain points the story will branch off, giving each player a unique perspective of the events. The new multiplayer elements in The Dark Pictures Anthology were inspired by the immense popularity of Until Dawn streaming and the fact that many people would gather to play through the game together. Of course, you can still play the entire story solo if you wish.

As of right now, there's only a standard edition available for The Dark Pictures: Little Hope. It's selling for $30, the same price as Man of Medan at launch. The first pre-order listing has gone live at Amazon, where you can currently secure your copy of the PS4 version. It's not available for Xbox One or PC yet, but we expect more listings will go live soon.
