A Shadow Over Traldaxia Development Post #1:
When we started this project we a had to make some decisions. First, how much of the real world we would use in our fictional version. Second, what history/stories did we want to pull from.
For the first one, we settled on the fact that fantastical creatures and other species do exist, the game is inspired by fairy tales and folklore, but they are not just walking around in the cities. It is a human centric world, and these mostly reside in our Magical Locations, are hidden away from the common people or are true terrors come to life. Next the world outside of Traldaxia is alluded to, but mostly in vague terms (the lands near the southern seas, the western lands, etc.). Readers should get the references to Romans, Turks and Vikings, but we dont spend time detailing the outer world.
Second, we decided on pulling from stories and tales that are primarily Dacian in nature. If too much Thracian/Greek/Roman influence mixed, we tried to separate it out. So some historians may see some things missing (certain deities for example), but we wanted to hone in on this particular area. We also opted for mostly pre-Christian influence as far as the stories we pulled from, so some things you might expect may not be there (sorry no Dracula, although to make up for it we have three types of vampires).
We also left the world at a point where it needs heroes, and is a young kingdom where they can grow in influence.
Zalmoxis has disappeared and the Zmeu is rising! Will you rise to the occasion?
