Qatar Calendar House announced that the date of the rising of the Suhail star this year in the sky of the State of Qatar will be next Saturday, corresponding to Aug. 24, which marks the beginning of the Suhail season in Qatar and most of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
An astronomy expert at Qatar Calendar House, Dr. Bashir Marzouq said that the residents of the State of Qatar will be able to see the star Suhail with the naked eye towards the southern horizon of the sky of the State of Qatar during the first week of next September, and it can be identified by the brightest star at night (the Sirius star).
He added that the rising of the Suhail star on Aug. 24 of each year is the beginning of the Suhail season and the Suhail year, which is 365 or 366 days long, and includes a group of seasons such as Al-Murabba’iyah, Al-Wasmi, Al-Safri, and Al-Kanna.
The Suhail star is the brightest star in the constellation of the ship’s base, and it is the second brightest star that we see in the night sky after the star Sirius, and it is about 300 light years away from us

The evolution of the TV has been marked by significant milestones, from the transition from black and white to colour, the shift from standard definition to high definition, and, more recently, the leap from HD to 4K. Each of these advancements has dramatically enhanced the quality of our viewing experience. However, the latest developments in home entertainment technology, particularly the introduction of 8K resolution televisions and the integration of artificial intelligence, represent a quantum leap that promises to redefine our relationship with visual media.
To fully appreciate the significance of 8K resolution, it is essential to understand its technical specifications. An 8K display boasts a resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels, resulting in 33 million pixels. This represents four times the resolution of 4K (3840 x 2160) and sixteen times that of Full HD (1920 x 1080).
The implications of such ultra-high resolution are profound. The ability of the human eye to discern individual pixels at typical viewing distances is effectively neutralised, creating an image of unprecedented clarity and detail. Two outstanding teams - Kuwait’s Future Gadget Lab claimed first place and UAE’s Beyond Limits secured second are advancing to the global Tech4Good competition, which will be held in China.
Team Nabeeh from Saudi Arabia, Team Sufun from Oman, and Team AquaLucens from Bahrain were also recognized for their outstanding projects.
Amanzhan Sabyrgali, representing Kazakhstan, and Zainab Al Zaimoor, part of the Bahrani contingent, were chosen as the Mentors’ Favorites.
Huawei, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, celebrated the culmination of the regional finals of the Seeds for the Future 2024 program with a grand awards ceremony in Tashkent. Team Future Gadget Lab from Kuwait and Team Beyond Limits from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) won first and second place, respectively, in the regional semifinal of the fourth annual Tech4Good competition that was held concurrently with the program. The teams were recognized by judges for their innovative use of technology to assist stroke patients with limited hand mobility. They will go on to compete in the finals in China alongside qualifying teams from around the world and explore ICT’s huge potential to drive sustainable development.
Similarly, Team Nabeeh from Saudi Arabia, Team Sufun from Oman, and Team AquaLucens from Bahrain were recognized for their outstanding projects. “If you use your Ranger for work, family or play, then you’ll know the hard life lived by the door of your vehicle,” said Tim Griffiths, test engineer, Ford Australia. That’s why Ford slams the front and rear doors on Ranger more than 100,000 times to simulate a decade of hard use in the hands of customers.
“The door slam test is as demanding as anything the rest of the vehicle experiences during development; we open and close the front and rear doors in temperatures ranging from a colder than cold minus 40-degrees C to a piping hot 80-degrees C,” said Griffiths.
Using two internal and two external automated hydraulic arms, Ford simulates 10 years of use and abuse over the course of a month with testing running day and night. To ensure all closure techniques are covered, from soft to hard, the speed of the door closure is varied.
As if that doesn’t sound rigorous enough, Ford applies a special ‘gritty’ spray to vehicle parts to simulate outback and coastal conditions. “Rest assured, if it opens and shuts, we’ve tested it to Built Ford Tough standards,” concluded Griffiths.

On the second day of the Farnborough International Airshow, Qatar Airways announced that its significant order of Boeing 777X aircraft has been expanded to include an impressive 20 Boeing 777-9s. This is in addition to its existing order of 40 Boeing 777-9 commercial aircraft, bringing the total to 94 commercial and cargo Boeing 777X aircraft. The announcement also includes a commitment for 40 additional GE9X engines and spare engines, as well as a long-term services agreement.

Rosneft CEO says next stage in developing relations with China is Comprehensive Cooperation in Energy and Advanced Technologies
Rosneft has explored cooperation opportunities with Qatar in various areas of the energy industry, including joint ventures, investment projects, and technology exchanges.
“Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of oil supplies is unique for Eurasia,” said Igor Sechin, Executive Secretary of the Presidential Commission for the Strategy of Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex and Environmental Safety, CEO of Rosneft. He was speaking at the 6th Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum (RCEBF) held in Moscow. Rosneft has established significant connections with Qatar in the energy sector. One notable partnership is its collaboration with Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar. Additionally, Rosneft has explored cooperation opportunities with Qatar in various areas of the energy industry, including joint ventures, investment projects, and technology exchanges.
Speaking at the opening of the 6th Russia-China Energy Business Forum, Sechin noted that cooperation between Russia and China is developing under unprecedented external pressure. “However, all efforts to curb the growth of our countries lead to the opposite result: The GDP growth rates of China (5.2 per cent in 2023) and Russia (3.6 per cent in 2023) are well above those of Western countries and the global average,” he noted.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., today announced that SmartThings, its global connected living platform, has received the international standard ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for information security management systems (ISMSs).
ISO 27001 is the leading global standard for ISMSs and was established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The standard provides companies with guidance to manage the risks to information assets systematically and achieve information protection goals.
This certification was received from the British Standards Institution (BSI), a world-renowned standardization and certification organization. To be certified, a company has to meet the standard across a total of 123 detailed items, including policies for information security, access control for information assets and incident response, among others.
With this certification, Samsung has proven that the information protection of its SmartThings Cloud operates in accordance with international standards while providing integrated connected experiences. 150 students, 14 teachers and academic representatives from 14 countries of Middle East and Central Asia are set to participate in this year’s regional edition of Huawei’s global CSR program Seeds for the Future in Uzbekistan.
Under the umbrella of the Seeds for the Future program, Huawei is hosting the Tech4Good regional competition in Tashkent, targeting youth with ideas that can address social issues by leveraging the latest ICT technologies.
Huawei, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, IT Education Association and telecom, regulatory, labor authorities and vocational training bodies, announced the launch of the regional finals of its prestigious Seeds for the Future program for university students from Middle East and Central Asia. Modern Home, a forefront distributor of technology solutions in Qatar, and Sony Middle East and Africa, the leading consumer electronics brand launched the ZV-E10 II, the second generation of the ZV-E10 camera in Qatar.
The new Sony Vlog Camera, the ZV-E10 II, will be available in Qatar starting from August 15 at Modern Home in Al Maha Center on Salwa Road and Fnac stores in Lagoona Mall, Doha Festival City, Place Vendôme, and online through sonyworld.qa, fnac.qa and the Fnac app. It can also be found at Virgin Megastore and other major retailers in town for QAR 4,099 only.
The original ZV-E10 is a staple APS-C camera in Sony’s ZV content creation camera series, designed to provide an easy, compact, and versatile tool for content creators of any level. The new ZV-E10 II maintains all the features creators love about the original, such as Creative Looks, Product Showcase Setting, Background Defocus function, the vari-angle flip screen, and builds on it to increase sophistication and ease of use.
The ZV-E10 II’s internal hardware has been improved from its predecessor with an upgraded 26 megapixel (MP) (approx. effective) Exmor R™ CMOS sensor and the adoption of Sony’s latest BIONZ XR™ image processing engine. A few additional updates to this model include improved autofocus and video capturing capabilities: Cinematic Vlog Setting, a new vertical format user interface (UI), an upgraded large-capacity battery Sony Z battery for improved stamina and improved connectivity for easy live streaming and data transfer. It is compact and lightweight and fits into a creator’s hand with ease, weighing in at approximately 377 grams.
In addition, the E PZ 16-50 mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II (SELP16502) is announced, a compact APS-C power zoom lens which will be available separately or as part of the ZV-E10 II’s lens kit. The upgraded kit lens is lightweight and offers improved autofocus (AF) and video performance compared to the first-generation model.
