HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani led well-wishers to welcome his brother HE President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune upon his arrival and the accompanying delegation at the Amiri Terminal of Hamad International Airport on Saturday evening on a working visit to the country.
Also present to welcome HE the President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria were Their Excellencies the ministers, senior officials, HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Algeria Abdulaziz bin Ali Al Naama, and HE Ambassador of Algeria to the State of Qatar Salah Attia.

Qatar's Bassem Hemeida won Saturday the gold medal in the 400m hurdles at the 25th edition of the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok, with the participation of more than 500 male and female athletes representing 41 Asian countries.
The 23-year-old athlete managed to win first place in the race and also to qualify for the World Championships to be held in August in Hungary, in addition to qualifying for the Olympic Games (Paris 2024).
Bassem Hemeida scored a time of 48.64 seconds to win the first gold medal for Qatari athletics in the championship ahead of Japan's Yusaku Kodama, who finished second to win the silver medal with a time of 48.96 seconds, while India's Santhosh Kumar came in third place with the Bronze medal.
After winning the race, Bassem expressed his happiness at this achievement for the first time in his career.

Minister of Public Health and Chairman of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization, HE Dr Hanan Mohamed Al-Kuwari met in Geneva with Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization.

During the meeting, they discussed the most prominent decisions of the meetings of the Executive Council of the World Health Organization at its 153rd session, and the World Health Assembly at its 76th session, which concluded recently in Geneva, and work to accelerate the achievement of the goals of the World Health Organization and promote health and wellness for all.

The Years of Culture (YoC) initiative teamed up with Education Above All Foundation (EAA) through its Reach Out to Asia (ROTA) program to promote cross-cultural collaboration with this year's YoC partner Indonesia.
The volunteer trip supports one of the EAA Foundation's projects in the West Kalimantan Province in Indonesia.
This initiative brings together a group of dedicated student volunteers from the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) and the Qatar Academy for Science and Technology (QAST) and Indonesian students from Sui Ambawang High School to learn from and inspire each other through mutual learning and cultural discovery.
Student from UDST and QAST shared what they are most excited about ahead of their departure to Indonesia this week.
They added that the trip offers a remarkable chance to learn about and indulge in the rich Indonesian culture, and to enhance mutual understanding through sharing cultural activities.

The State of Qatar strongly condemned Israeli Defense Minister's decision to start implementing a law cancelling disengagement from northern occupied West Bank settlements that authorizes settlers to return to evacuated Homesh outpost, as a flagrant violation of Palestinian people's rights.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Qatar's deep concern over Israeli occupation forces' years-long de facto policy, aiming to strip Palestinian rights guaranteed by international law and undermine international efforts to implement the two-state solution.

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on launching a strategic dialogue between the two countries.
The MoU comes as part of the efforts made to strengthen the close co-operation between the two countries in various fields.

HE Sheikh Mohamed affirmed the remarkable development witnessed by bilateral relations between Qatar and Germany in various fields since the start of relations between them in 1973, noting that the visit of Baerbock is the culmination of 50 years of diplomatic relations and co-operation between the two countries.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) called on parents to quickly enroll their children in public schools and kindergartens, during the early registration period for the next academic year to be able to select an appropriate school and complete the registration procedures.
The early registration in public schools for the academic year (2023/2024) began on April 12 and will continue until Sep. 9.
the MOEHE's Director of Schools and Education Affairs Ali Jassim Al Kuwari mentioned for the MOEHE allocated five months for enrollment to help parents select an appropriate school and complete all required procedures before the start of the academic year.

Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani is in a bidding war with British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe after the pair emerged as the main contenders to buy the Premier League Team. INEOS chemical company founder Ratcliffe, a boyhood United fan, had reportedly placed a higher valuation on the club as he seeks a majority stake.
However, his bid could allow for executive co-chairmen Avram and Joel Glazer to remain invested in the Red Devils - a move that would be deeply unpopular with supporters.
By contrast, Sheikh Jassim's bid is for 100% control of the club and promises to wipe all r United's £970 million ($1.2 billion) debt.

Advisor to the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majed bin Mohammad Al Ansari underscored the major role undertaken by the State of Qatar in de-escalation, reaching the truce agreement and ceasefire between the Palestinian and Israeli parties.

During the media brief held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, he added that the State of Qatar has received international commendations from the U.S. Department of State, the White House, the United Nations, the General-Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) and others for Qatar's diplomatic efforts in accelerating the ceasefire between the two sides.

The sculptural installations and digital paintings continue to mesmerise visitors as the artworks were unveiled to the public recently at the Anima Gallery based in Mushaireb.
The ‘Eruption’ exhibition is themed under the concept of ‘creating a rich and varied tapestry of interpretations that speak to the complexity of our world’.
While the artists drew the people’s attention to the distinctive artworks, visitors at the gallery spoke to The Peninsula on the enthralling works curated at the exhibition centre.
Kim Fernandez, a Filipino, said that “As we were walking around here, we saw something interesting and thought to check it out. To my surprise, it was an art gallery and I have never been to one before.”

Qatar and Bahrain are resuming flights between the two countries from May 25, in a continuing process of normalizing ties.
Bahrain’s Civil Aviation Affairs announced the move on Monday, according to Bahrain’s state news agency.

The resumption of flights between the two is “within the framework of the brotherly relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples, and in a manner that achieves the common aspirations of the leaderships and citizens of both countries”, the state agency said.

Qatar Airways flight QR960 from Doha to Denpasar diverted to Bangkok following an encounter with clear air turbulence, the airline said Wednesday.

Upon landing safely in Bangkok, the aircraft was met by medical teams to provide assistance to affected individuals, a release posted on Twitter was made.

Qatar Airways is providing all passengers with meals and overnight accommodation in Bangkok and will continue the flight to Denpasar on Thursday, May 11.

Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar held a two-day workshop providing specialists with the use of evidence-based music interventions to treat a variety of health conditions. Music therapy is a form of treatment that uses music within the therapeutic relationship. During the workshop participants had the opportunity to understand how music and musical instruments, can help people raise their self-esteem and express emotions, and how other techniques can be used to treat speech and movement disorders such as those found in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, autism, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Qatar have been placed in Group B of the upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup, which is scheduled to take place from 16 June – 16 July 2023. Alongside Mexico, Haiti and Honduras, two teams will advance to the knockout stage of the tournament. According to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education institutions wishing to open a branch and operate in Qatar must meet the criteria of being among the top 300 universities in any of Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the QS classification, or the Shanghai Jiao Tong classification. Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Khalid Al Ali, stated that one of the top Malaysian universities has requested to open a branch in Doha, and the ministry is currently reviewing the application, expecting that upon approval it may open in October.
