Hello and welcome!

My name is Maria, and I’m 23 years old. I have a degree in Primary Education Studies and I’m about to complete my postgraduate studies as a Montessori Guide for ages 3-6. I’m from the beautiful island of Madeira and moved to the United Kingdom in search of a different life full of adventures.

In 2020, I discovered a passion for the Montessori method and, since then, I’ve been participating in various training programs in this field. After long quarantine in Portugal, I decided to return to the UK to pursue my career.

Then one day, the opportunity to work at a Montessori school came up – my dream had begun! In 2021, I started working at a Montessori nursery in Cambridge, initially in the baby room, and soon moved to the preschool room where I currently work with children aged 3 to 6 years.

BUT, for those who know me, I am always looking for more and ready for new challenges. That’s why I decided to start this project, Montessori by Maria, to help as many families as possible implement Montessori at home effortlessly!

Maria Montessori faced gender-based challenges even before being accepted into Medical School, attending classes from outside the window. Furthermore, she conducted anatomy and dissection sessions alone at night to avoid being in the same space as her male peers, encountering the sight of a naked body. Yet, her determination remained steadfast throughout her journey.

🍂 Engaging Fall Activities for Little Learners!🍂

As the leaves change and pumpkin season is upon us, it's the perfect time to foster your child's learning through fun, hands-on activities. Here are two delightful ideas to explore with your little one:

🍁 Leaf Collection and Sorting:

Collecting leaves from your yard or a nature walk is not only an excellent way to connect with nature but also a fantastic learning opportunity. After gathering a variety of leaves, challenge your child to sort them by size. This activity not only enhances their observational skills but also introduces concepts of measurement and categorization. Plus, it's a great reason to spend time outdoors and embrace the beauty of fall!

🎃 Pumpkin Tray with Elastic Bands:

This fine motor skills activity combines creativity and coordination. Provide your child with a small pumpkin or a pumpkin-shaped tray and colorful elastic bands. It's a brand new week and we're excited to start it off with some Montessori-inspired activities.

One of the key principles of Montessori is hands-on learning. Children learn best when they are actively engaged in the learning process. So today, why not set up a Montessori-inspired activity for your child?

For example, you could create a pouring station with a small pitcher and a cup, or set up a sorting activity with different objects. These activities not only help develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, but they also foster a sense of independence and confidence in children.

Today is all about rest and relaxation, but that doesn't mean we can't incorporate some Montessori principles into our day.

One of the key aspects of Montessori is allowing children to have independence and choice in their activities. So today, why not create a "peaceful corner" for your child where they can choose a quiet activity to do on their own? This could be a simple puzzle, a drawing activity, or a book to read.

Remember, rest and relaxation is important for both children and adults, so take some time today to enjoy the simple things and recharge for the week ahead. Have a peaceful Sunday!

I'm excited to announce that we have changed our Instagram account name and logo to better reflect our focus on the Montessori philosophy. Our new name is Little Hands Montessori, and our new logo features Montessori material.

We chose this new name and logo because it better represents our mission to nurture independence and self-directed learning in children. We believe that every child has the potential to explore and learn at their own pace, and we're committed to sharing practical tips and strategies to help parents and caregivers create a child-centered learning environment at home.

A alimentação saudável é um dos fatores determinantes para um crescimento completo e rico, promovendo a saúde e prevenindo “más relações” com a comida, cada vez mais recorrente neste século.
Os hábitos alimentares das crianças nestas faixas etárias vão determinar os seus comportamentos na idade adulta. Dito isto, nós educadores, pais, familiares somos responsáveis para orientar e melhor ajudar as nossas crianças ter uma educação alimentar consciente.
Como vocês sabem, as crianças sao os melhores observadores e críticos deste mundo, as aprendizagens nesta idade são maioritariamente feitas através da observação, pois sim não se esqueçam, vocês podem ser o sonho de uma criança de 5 anos! Já pensaram no peso que isso tem...? É, por isso, importante que tenha um papel ativo na escolha, preparação e confeção dos alimentos, contudo não se esqueçam de incluir as vossas crianças neste momento importante do dia. Isto irá contribuir para que elas se sintam motivadas e curiosas sobre a própria alimentação.
Healthy eating is one of the determining factors for complete and rich growth, promoting health and preventing “bad relationships” with food, which is increasingly recurrently in this century.
Children's the eating habits in these age groups will determine their behavior in adulthood. That said, we educators, parents, family members are responsible to guide and to support our children to have a conscious food education.
As you know, children are the best observers and critics in this world, learning at this age is mostly done through observation, so do not forget, you can be a 5 year old's dream! Have you ever thought about the weight that this has...? It is therefore important that you play an active role in choosing, preparing and cooking food, but don't forget to include your children at this important time of the day. This will help them to feel motivated and curious about their food.
